‘Detective Ujjwalan' box office collections day 20: Dhyan Sreenivasan's film dips; mints Rs 6.84 crores
(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) After a decent start and a steady run in its early days, Dhyan Sreenivasan's investigative comedy thriller 'Detective Ujjwalan' is now witnessing a noticeable dip in box office numbers. The film, which blends humour with suspense, has collected Rs 6.84 crore globally as of Day 20, with Rs 6.33 crore from its domestic net collections. Gradual Decline in Daily Earnings According to the Sacnilk website, the drop in footfalls over the past week reflects the film's waning momentum. From earning Rs 85 lakhs on its opening day and Rs 78 lakhs on Day 2, the film peaked early and began to slow down after its first weekend. By Day 10, collections dropped to Rs 20 lakhs and have continued on a downward trajectory since. The last five days have seen particularly low figures — Rs 13 lakhs on Day 16, Rs 14 lakhs on Day 15, and only Rs 4 lakhs on Day 20. While the early buzz around the film helped boost its initial box office performance, sustained traction has proven difficult, especially in the face of new releases and mixed audience word-of-mouth. Detective Ujjwalan - Official Trailer No Final Verdict Yet, But Overall Performance Steady Despite the dip, 'Detective Ujjwalan' has managed to cross Rs 6 crore in India, a respectable feat for a regional film with a niche genre appeal. ETimes gave the movie a rating of 2.5 star out of 5 and our official review reads, 'There are some rules that a detective story needs to make it work and for the effect to stay with us. Some red herrings that will confuse the audience so that we are emotionally and intellectually caught up in the story, a detective who uses logic that will baffle us with its brilliance and a final revelation of the culprit that will shock us. Detective Ujjwalan does not use any of these devices in a forceful enough manner. The period settings are interesting and the village characters are loveable enough, though some of the superb comic talents from social media, Ameen, Nihal Nizam, Nibraz and Shahubas, are barely utilised. The film seems to go in the direction of most Dhyan films; a bit of an anti-climax.'

Kamal Haasan's Thug Life Sees A Dip On Day 7, Mints Rs 1.25 Crore
Upon its release on June 5, Thug Life opened to a thunderous response from the audience but failed to keep the excitement intact post Monday. Despite huge expectations, Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam 's Thug Life continues to witness underwhelming box-office collections. The gangster drama which marked the reunion of two industry stalwarts 37 years after the release of Nayakan, had fans buzzing with excitement before the film's release. Upon its release on June 5, the film opened to a thunderous response from the audience but failed to keep the excitement intact post Monday. On Wednesday, the gangster drama seemed to slow down, witnessing only minimal growth. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Thug Life collected just Rs 1.25 crore on Day 7 (Wednesday), which brings the film's total to Rs 42.25 crore. The week began with a significant collection of Rs 2.3 Crore on Monday and saw a steady dip on Tuesday, earning mere Rs 1.8 crore. Looking at the downward graph, it seems the Kamal Haasan starrer is far from the state of recovery and might prove to be one of the box-office disasters of the year. The decline in the number of Thug Life's collections can be attributed to the film's clash with big players like Housefull 5. The film, starring Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and Abhishek Bachchan has been maintaining a strong hold among audiences ever since its theatrical release. Directed by Mani Ratnam and produced by Kamal Haasan, Thug Life boasts a star-studded ensemble cast including Trisha Krishnan, Silambarasan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Abhirami, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Ali Fazal, Nassar and Rohit Saraf among others. The storyline chronicles the life of Rangaraya Sakthivel, an ageing gangster, seeking revenge against those who betrayed him, including his own brother, former gang members and a man named Amar. As he embarks on the journey to destroy everyone he believes is threatening him, the film explores the themes of betrayal and power struggles. Sakthivel's extramarital affair with Indrani (played by Trisha Krishnan), a popular social media influencer, also forms a subplot of the storyline. Earlier, Kamal Haasan opened up about his reunion with Mani Ratnam. The actor told ANI, 'Every film is a challenge, especially when you combine it with another director, such as Mani Ratnam, with an intriguing story. Fortunately, he involved me in the story's preparation. I gave him an idea. I spent the majority of my time gathering vegetables and assisting him in making them more tasty." Kamal Haasan will next be seen in Kalki 2898 AD Part 2. About the Author Shrishti Negi First Published: June 12, 2025, 10:10 IST

Balika Vadhu star Avika Gor engaged to IIM graduate Milind Chandwani: Who is he?
Actor Avika Gor recently announced her engagement to Milind Chandwani, sharing glimpses of their intimate ceremony on social media along with a heartfelt caption. Chandwani, an alumnus of IIM-Ahmedabad, began his career at the Indian tech giant Infosys and later founded the NGO Campus Diaries, which focuses on supporting underprivileged children. In a post on X, Gor wrote, "He asked.. I smiled, I cried (in that order 🙈)…and screamed the easiest YES of my life! I'm full filmy — background score, slow-mo dreams, mascara running and all. He's logic, calm, and 'let's carry a first-aid kit just in case.' 'I manifest drama. He manages it. And somehow, we just… Fit. So when he asked, the heroine in me took over — arms in the air, tears in my eyes, and zero network in my brain. Because real love? It may not always be perfect. But, It. Is. Magical,' she added. Avika Gor and Milind Chandwani first crossed paths in Hyderabad in 2020 through mutual friends and have been in a relationship for nearly five years. Gor has often playfully remarked that she was "married to him in (her) head" long before their feelings became mutual. Milind Chandwani is an engineer-turned-philanthropist. After graduating from Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering in Bangalore, he began his career as a Software Engineer at Infosys, according to a report by Republic. However, he left the corporate world to work with non-profits like Teach For India and iTeach Schools, focusing on education and welfare for marginalized communities. Currently, he serves as the CEO of Camp Diaries, an NGO that provides educational opportunities to children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Milind also gained public praise through his appearance on MTV Roadies Season 17, where he was a member of Neha Dhupia's gang. Though he didn't reach the finale, his performance and personality resonated with both the audience and the show's mentors, earning him a strong youth following. Widely known for her roles in television, Gor rose to fame with Balika Vadhu and Sasural Simar Ka. She later transitioned to films, starring in Vikram Bhatt's 1920: Horrors of the Heart (2023) and Bloody Ishq (2024). Most recently, she appeared in the Telugu crime thriller Shanmukha (2025). A couple of days ago, actor Hina Khan, who will also be seen in COLORS' reality TV show, tied the knot with boyfriend Rocky Jaiswal. I manifest drama. He manages it. And somehow, we just… Fit. Announcing their sacred union, Hina and Rocky in a joint Instagram post wrote, 'From two different worlds, we built a universe of love. Our differences faded, our hearts aligned, creating a bond to last lifetimes. We are our home, our light, our hope and together, we transcend all barriers. Today, our union is forever sealed in love and law. We seek your Blessings and Wishes as Wife and Husband.' (With inputs from agencies)
