In Dewan Rakyat today: KLIA corruption probe, flood funds and vehicle plate revenues in focus
According to the Order Paper on the official Parliament website, Lee Chean Chung (PH-Petaling Jaya) will raise the issue with the Home Minister during the question-and-answer session. He will also inquire about the timeline for resolving these issues.
During the session, Rushdan Rusmi (PN-Padang Besar) will question the Minister of Transport on the guidelines for approving special vehicle registration plates, including those issued by government agencies and private entities, as well as the revenue generated from such sales in the past five years.
Chow Kon Yeow (PH-Batu Kawan) will seek clarification from the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation on improving the annual distribution of flood management funds, as opposed to one-off allocations.
He will also ask about efforts to establish a dedicated system for river maintenance and control asset management, similar to the Malaysian Road Records Information System (MARRIS).
In addition, Datuk Ali Biju (PN-Saratok) will ask the Communications Minister on the government's plans for expanding the Integrated Radio and Internet Communication System (PRIME) in Sabah and Sarawak, and its coordination with government agencies for disaster preparedness.
Following this, Members of Parliament will participate in a debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), themed 'Melakar Semula Pembangunan, which was tabled by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Thursday.
The 13MP will outline the nation's five-year development plan from 2026 to 2030.
The current Dewan Rakyat sitting runs for 24 days until Aug 28. — Bernama

MOSCOW: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, stated that his state visit to Russia reflects his sincere desire to strengthen bilateral ties. KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 — The monitoring and audit mechanism for the additional revenue from water tariff adjustments, which was promised by state water operators for the purpose of repairing and developing water supply infrastructure, will be a key focus of today's Dewan Rakyat sitting. According to the Order Paper on the Parliament portal, the question is being raised by Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin) to the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation during Minister's Question Time. Mohd Isam also wants to know what action will be taken against operators who fail to meet key performance indicators (KPIs) after receiving the benefits of the tariff adjustment. PETALING JAYA : Law and institutional reform minister Azalina Othman Said said PAS leaders may have broken several laws by comparing women leaders to animals and citing the Quran in defending the analogy. In a post on X, Azalina said the PAS leaders may have breached several provisions, namely Sections 509, 504 and 298A of the Penal Code. The three sections deal with insulting the modesty of a person, intentional insult to provoke a breach of the peace, and actions that cause disharmony, respectively. She did not name the leaders, but uploaded two articles which identified Maran PAS Youth information chief Salman Al Farisi and party deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man. 'To whom it may concern: if you are still comparing women leaders to animals in 2025, congrats! 'Do better, or lawyer up,' she said, in an apparent sarcastic jab at Salman and Tuan Ibrahim, who had defended the youth leader. Azalina also said those who incorporated religion into their argument could be committing an offence under Section 507B of the Penal Code that deals with insulting words. On Monday, Malaysiakini reported Salman as comparing men to bulls, and women to cows when emphasising the importance of men in leadership roles, based on his experience in livestock farming. Salman had claimed that a cow would usually lead the herd, while bulls serve to protect the herd. He said society should, therefore, avoid elevating women to leadership positions, and that men should assume leadership roles in accordance with Quranic teachings. Earlier today, Tuan Ibrahim defended Salman, saying such analogies were used in literary works and not meant to degrade women. 'In Islamic literature in the past, there are works such as 'Kalilah wa Dimnah', which are filled with analogies and stories about animals, used to convey teachings and moral values,' he was quoted as saying. He said he saw nothing sexist about Salman's remark.
