At Abu Dhabi Global Health Week, Microsoft shows how AI can be an agent of change
Digital transformation through AI is redefining the way healthcare organizations approach patient engagement, care team collaboration and the provider experience. Technologies like AI, in partnership with clinicians, play a key role in accelerating progress in the industry, making physician and patient experiences more personal and engaging, alleviating workforce burnout, and helping increase access to care.

At the event, Microsoft is showcasing the AI-powered companion app, Hayat. With a focus on mental health and personalization, the app integrates with Apple Health and features natural language search, conversational AI, and a speech agent that supports Arabic and English. Hayat uses industry-standard metrics on physical and mental health and nutrition. It provides daily suggestions and insights based on user data and integrates with Apple Health for yet more detailed information.

Abu Dhabi Global Health Week starts today in the ADNEC (Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company) Centre and runs until Thursday 17 April. The three-day event brings together more than 15,000 health and life sciences leaders from around the world.

Dubai Healthcare City authority organises organ donation awareness symposium in collaboration with MoHAP
Symposium supports the national 'Hayat' programme and brings together leading experts from the organ donation and transplantation society Dubai, UAE: In recognition of World Organ Donation Day, Dubai Healthcare City Authority (DHCA), the governing body of Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), organised an awareness symposium in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) to highlight the importance of organ donation and support the National Programme for Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation - Hayat. Held at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Academic Medical Centre in DHCC, the symposium was part of the 'Donate for Life' campaign, reflecting DHCC's commitment to raising awareness, encouraging social compassion, and fostering a culture of solidarity. The initiative also aligned with MoHAP's nationwide awareness campaign to mark World Organ Donation Day, observed annually on 13 August. It reinforced the value of MoHAP's Hayat programme, advancing the UAE's efforts to promote altruism and save lives through organ and tissue donation. Issam Galadari, Chief Executive Officer at Dubai Healthcare City Authority (DHCA), said: "As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting national healthcare priorities and enabling constructive dialogue around high-impact medical initiatives, we are proud to join efforts with the Ministry of Health and Prevention to raise awareness of organ donation. Al Obaidli commended the awareness symposium organised by the Dubai Healthcare City Authority, in participation with health, education, and religious institutions, saying it shows what can be achieved when the whole community works together to raise awareness and stand beside donors and their families. He added that the National Committee will continue to develop policies and protocols to safeguard the wellbeing of donors and patients, aiming to establish a sustainable donation and transplantation system. This, he said, relies on the active engagement of society and the combined efforts of public and private entities, ultimately saving lives, offering renewed hope to patients, and bringing joy to their families. The event explored the entire transplantation journey from multiple perspectives, including medical, regulatory, ethical, and personal, offering a comprehensive understanding of the process and its profound impact. Hayat records milestone with over 1,000 organ transplants in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi's National Programme for Donation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissue – Hayat, has completed a total of 1,090 organ transplants across the emirate. Launched in 2017, Hayat is a national system to enhance efforts to get more people to donate human organs and tissue following international standards and practices in this regard. The milestone was announced on World Organ Donation Day. Hayat performed a record 290 transplants in 2024, including seven heart transplants, 142 kidney transplants, 117 liver transplants, 22 lung transplants, and two pancreas transplants. Abu Dhabi is steadily emerging as a centre for advanced transplant medicine, thanks to the contributions of several top healthcare institutions. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, recognised as the UAE's first and only multi-organ transplant centre, performs complex procedures including heart, lung, liver, kidney, and pancreas transplants. Notably, in July 2025, the hospital completed its first robotic lung transplant in the Gulf region, and in October 2024, carried out the UAE's first combined heart and double-lung transplant. Earlier accomplishments include simultaneous robotic kidney transplants, as well as combined kidney‑pancreas and liver‑kidney surgeries. Burjeel Medical City has also emerged as a leader in multi-organ transplantation. Among its achievements is the UAE's first paediatric living donor liver transplant, first ABO-incompatible kidney transplant, and youngest paediatric liver transplant at just five months old. SEHA Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, a subsidiary of PureHealth, the largest healthcare platform in the Middle East, has successfully performed over 114 kidney transplants in 2024 and continues to expand its liver transplant programme for both adult and pediatric patients, demonstrating its steadfast commitment to delivering world-class care and enhancing patient outcomes. Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City has distinguished itself in research and education, with 10 international conference presentations and the Best Abstract Award at ISODP 2023 in Las Vegas. The facility performed the first COVID-positive organ donation in the UAE, demonstrating medical leadership and innovation. It was ranked second among UAE hospitals for the highest number of utilised organ donors in 2022. 'Reaching this milestone is a testament to Abu Dhabi's unwavering commitment to delivering best-in-class care. Through our infrastructure, talent, and innovation, the Emirate has become a hub for organ transplantation in the region and beyond,' said Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi. She encouraged community members to join the ' Hayat ' programme, noting that a single person can save multiple lives.

13 Aug 2025 15:24 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has successfully carried out a combined liver and kidney transplant on Nashami, a Kuwaiti mother of three, who was diagnosed with advanced liver disease and kidney failure caused by primary biliary by doctors in Kuwait and the UK for the hospital's expertise in advanced transplant care, Nashami was placed on a shared UAE-Kuwait waiting list under the organ sharing agreement established between both countries in programme has saved over 180 lives through coordinated efforts between medical teams, embassies, airports and surgery was performed by Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's multidisciplinary transplant team with minimal blood loss, and reduced time between donor organ retrieval and transplantation to preserve organ function. She initially attributed the symptoms to exhaustion from travelling but became concerned when her symptoms continued to persist. Upon consulting doctors in Kuwait, an ultrasound revealed her diagnosis: severe hepatic cirrhosis and kidney failure caused by primary biliary cirrhosis, an autoimmune disease that damages the bile ducts and liver and can impair kidney function. In need of an urgent combined liver and kidney transplant, her doctors recommended the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's multi-organ transplant center in the UAE.'From the moment I arrived at the hospital, I was welcomed by the warmth and professionalism of the caregivers, as well as the world-class facility,' Nashami seamless coordination between medical teams in Kuwait and Abu Dhabi, Nashami was swiftly placed on the transplant waiting list. On the day of the surgery, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi's transplant experts first conducted the liver transplant, followed by the kidney Nashami leads a healthy, fulfilling life back in Kuwait, continuing her follow-ups with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. Expressing her gratitude, Nashami shares, 'I now proudly call Abu Dhabi my second home.'Dr. Luis Campos, Staff Physician, Abdominal Transplant, said the complexity of the case demonstrated the strength of the hospital's integrated teams and surgical protocols.
