Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Naples area
Meteorologists warn of winds as strong as 60 mph.
Use caution, officials warn of hail as large as 0.75 inches.
The NWS warns: "For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building."
At 6:54 p.m., the NWS issued a statement:
"The National Weather Service in Miami has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for: Northwestern Collier County in southwestern Florida, Central Hendry County in southern Florida, Until 7:45 p.m. EDT. At 6:53 p.m. EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 9 miles east of Felda to 6 miles south of Lehigh Acres, and are nearly stationary.
HAZARD: 60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.
SOURCE: Radar indicated.
IMPACT: Damage to roofs, siding, and trees possible. Locations impacted include: Ave Maria, Immokalee, Hendry Correctional, Felda, Big Corkscrew Island, Orangetree, North Naples, Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, Bunker Hill, Lake Trafford, and Quail Creek Estate."
A severe thunderstorm warning means the area is experiencing or is about to experience a storm with winds of 58 mph or higher or hail an inch in diameter or larger.
Once in a shelter, stay away from windows and avoid electrical equipment and plumbing.
Keep a battery-powered weather radio nearby in case of loss of power.
Remember to bring pets inside.
If there is time, secure loose objects outside as these objects often become dangerous flying debris in high winds.
Postpone outdoor activities until the storms have passed.

The Action News Jax First Alert Weather Team is tracking a dry and hot Saturday, but expect scattered afternoon storms to bring heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds. Notes from the First Alert Weather Team: Saturday morning is dry and warm with temperatures in the upper 70s and lower 80s.
