Strong monsoon flow to bring heavy rain in Bengal till Friday: IMD
Kolkata, Jul 29 (PTI) The IMD forecast heavy rain in several south Bengal districts till Thursday owing to a strong monsoon flow.
A few sub-Himalayan districts are also likely to receive torrential rain till Friday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a bulletin.
The districts of Purba and Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, Nadia, Murshidabad, North and South 24 Parganas are likely to experience heavy rainfall till Thursday, it said.
Heavy rain is also expected in the sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar, owing to the monsoon flow, the bulletin said.
Kolkata is likely to receive heavy rainfall till Wednesday morning.
Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas district received the highest rainfall in West Bengal at 105 mm in the past 24 hours till 8.30 am on Tuesday, followed by Contai (96 mm) and Canning (83 mm), the IMD said.
The hill town of Darjeeling received 47-mm rainfall during the period, the bulletin added. PTI AMR RBT

While it brought relief from the hot and humid weather, it also caused a lot of problems, especially for people going to work. Major stretches were left waterlogged from Noida to Gurugram causing traffic jams and leaving vehicles stuck in water. Several low-lying areas were also badly affected, with cars and two-wheelers partly under water. Office-goers faced big trouble on Thursday morning as key roads were flooded. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), by 6:30 am on Thursday, central Delhi's Pusa area had received 40 mm of rain. Other areas also saw heavy rain i.e. Sports Complex got 38 mm, Safdarjung 34 mm, Najafgarh 23.5 mm, Pragati Maidan 22.1 mm, KV Narayana 20.5 mm, Lodi Road 18.5 mm, KV Janakpuri 18 mm, and Ayanagar 13 mm. In the rest of the country, especially in the northeast, the IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next seven days. The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall for Thursday morning in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR). Bahadurgarh and Manesar are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by light thunderstorms and lightning, while light rainfall is very likely to occur at the entire Delhi-NCR, the meteorological department said. Amarnath yatra resumes from Baltal route amid heavy rains, Pahalgam axis closed
The Amarnath Yatra resumed from the Baltal axis on Thursday, a day after it was suspended due to heavy rains, officials said. Torrential rains in Kashmir had rendered the roads unsafe, following which the pilgrimage was suspended on both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes on Wednesday.(PTI) However, the yatra remains suspended from the Pahalgam axis as urgent maintenance and repair works have to be carried out on the route, they said. The official said that no convoy movement would be allowed towards the Baltal and Nunwan base camps from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on Thursday. So far, more than 3.93 lakh yatris have paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine this year. The annual yatra that began on July 3 will culminate of August 9.
