Is Steelers RB Room Better Off Without Najee Harris?
The Steelers' offensive coordinator was asked recently if Jaylen Warren, Harris' sidekick the past three years, is the team's clear-cut No. 1 running back heading into the upcoming season. Free agent addition Kenneth Gainwell and rookie third-round draft pick Kaleb Johnson are other guys who figure to make an impact toting the ball.

'We've got a lot of weapons back there,' Smith said last week before a mandatory minicamp practice. 'They all got different skill sets, explosive players in a little different way. Just talking about Kaleb, a different style player than Jalen. We added Gainwell. There's a lot of depth in that room. It'll work itself out. We've got a lot of weapons back there, and then how we deploy them, that's what we'll get into at Latrobe.

'Then sometimes, if the injuries happen, some guy may have to carry the load a little bit heavier one week or the other. We're really excited about that room.'
Warren has picked up 1,674 yards and six touchdowns on the ground since joining the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2022. Gainwell has been in the league one campaign longer than Warren. He's totaled 1,185 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground and adds a dimension as a receiver.

'Seeing Jaylen's power, seeing Jaylen's work ethic, that's the same way I take the game,' Gainwell said during OTAs. 'Then bringing KJ along with us, I think it's gonna be a great show.'
Johnson focused on his pass protection technique during OTAs and mandatory minicamp. He's a proven rusher, having piled up 1,537 yards and 21 touchdowns on 240 carries at Iowa last season.

Sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson arrested this week after reported altercation with boyfriend at Seattle airport
Team USA sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested on Sunday after reportedly getting into a fight with her boyfriend at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, according to a police report obtained by multiple media outlets. Richardson was charged with domestic violence, but the case has since been cleared. According to the report from the Port of Seattle Police Department, Richardson got into an argument with her boyfriend, fellow U.S. sprinter Christian Coleman, and began shoving him. Police also said that Richardson threw a pair of headphones at Coleman, per USA Today. Police arrested Richardson for fourth-degree domestic violence assault as a result of security camera footage of the incident. Richardson was booked in South Correctional Entity in Des Moines, Wash., on Sunday evening, according to jail records. She was released on Monday afternoon. Richardson and Coleman went public with their relationship in February, though Coleman reportedly told police that the two have been together for two years. Per the report, Coleman refused to press charges and "declined to be a victim," via The Athletic. USA Track and Field said in a statement to USA Today that the organization was aware of the reports, but did not provide any additional comment. Richardson competed in the USA Track and Field championships in Eugene, Oregon, running in the first round of the women's 100-meter race on Thursday. With a time of 11.07 seconds, Richardson qualified in 11th place, but she has since withdrawn from the competition. She also pulled out of the 200-meter race, where she was scheduled to run this weekend. Because she's the reigning world champion in the 100, she automatically qualifies for September's World Championships in Tokyo in the event.

Frederik Dupras, take a bow. At 2025 PFL World Tournament 8, the French-Canadian bounced back into the win column when he defeated Nathan Kelly by technical submission via guillotine choke. The fight was stopped at 4:38 of Round 2 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. A tight guillotine choke began standing as Dupras (9-2) hopped up on Kelly (11-5) and locked in his grip. As the two eventually fell to the canvas, Kelly tapped, but the referee was not in position to see it. So Kelly's neck was squeezed for a few seconds longer before the official recognized consciousness no longer was present. Dupras bounces back from an April loss to Gabriel Braga. Guardians reportedly clear out lockers of Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz amid paid leave over gambling investigation
Cleveland Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase's locker was empty the day after the MLB trade deadline, but not for the reason many expected this time last week. With both Clase and teammate Luis Ortiz on paid leave amid an investigation into gambling allegations, the Guardians cleared out their lockers before Friday's game, according to The Athletic's Zack Meisel. While no reason for the change was provided, it's notable given that the Guardians have already played multiple home games since Clase was sidelined on Monday. Ortiz has also been on leave since July 3. Both players have reportedly had their leave extended through at least Aug. 31. It's possible something has changed behind the scenes, or maybe Cleveland just wanted to keep them out of mind in the clubhouse. Regardless, it's not the best omen for fans hoping to see either player again this season. Emmanuel Clase was placed on leave at a bad time for the Guardians Clase loomed as one of the biggest prizes at the trade deadline, which saw a fervent market for relievers. Athletics closer Mason Miller, Minnesota Twins closer Jhoan Duran and Pittsburgh Pirates closer David Bednar were all traded for significant hauls, and Clase might have commanded a larger return than any of them. With his future uncertain, Cleveland was instead forced to hold onto Clase. With a 54-54 record and long playoff odds, the team did trade away former Cy Young Award winner Shane Bieber and veteran reliever Paul Sewald. Clase is a three-time MLB All-Star and has accrued 181 saves in five seasons with the Guardians, with a career 1.88 ERA. He is under contract for the 2026 season with a salary of $6.4 million, plus two $10 million team options for 2027 and 2028. He was previously banned for the shortened 2020 season after testing positive for Boldenone, a banned performance-enhancing drug. What's happening with Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz? The allegations against Clase remain unclear, with the Guardians only saying his leave was in connection to MLB's sports betting investigation. More details are available for Ortiz, who had two of his pitches from June flagged for suspicious bets. The first came on June 15, when someone bet an unusual amount of money on Ortiz to throw a ball or hit a batter with his first pitch of the second inning (yes, you can do that). The pitch in question ended up in the dirt. On June 27, there was also allegedly suspicious activity on Ortiz's first pitch of the third inning, which ended up multiple feet outside the zone. MLB is currently investigating both players and it could be a while before any decision is made. The situation has become notable enough that Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has called for the Ohio Casino Control Commission to remove these kinds of prop bets from the state's sportsbooks. We have seen similar incidents in other sports, most notably the NBA's Jontay Porter scandal that saw the former Toronto Raptors forward banned from the league for life and plead guilty to a felony charge of wire fraud. If it's true that either Guardians player did something similar, they would also face a lifetime ban under Rule 21 of the MLB rulebook.
