Coca-Cola Arena unveils major fan experience investment with AI, immersive tech and flexible payments
Dubai, UAE - Coca-Cola Arena, Dubai's premier entertainment destination, is investing in digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to launch a bouquet of new features that elevate the live experience for residents and international visitors. From convenient ticketing to premium event upgrades, Coca-Cola Arena is raising the bar for seamless event access and immersive fan experiences.
As live event attendees seek quicker service and greater convenience, Coca-Cola Arena is responding with high-impact new digital initiatives, from AI-powered personalisation to immersive seat selection and seamless purchasing. The new features debut ahead of the Michael Learns to Rock concert on 27 April and across 2025 and aim to enhance fan engagement and drive premium revenue growth.
Mark Jan Kar, General Manager of Coca-Cola Arena said, 'With these investments, Coca-Cola Arena is fulfilling a long-term vision to reimagine live events from the moment a show is announced. By combining advanced AI, immersive technology and consumer-first services, we're creating a platform for fans to enjoy personalised, unforgettable moments on their own terms within a click of a button.'
The first phase of the rollout is anchored by an AI-powered WhatsApp channel, enabling real-time engagement, ticketing assistance, frictionless navigation and concierge-style services for attendees. The tool delivers personalised interactions at an unprecedented level.
Coca-Cola Arena has also launched 3D-interactive seat views within an interactive map on its website. The feature bridges the digital and physical experiences so fans can preview sightlines and select optimal seats. It is currently live for Dubai Basketball games and will roll out across all live concerts later this year.
Premium experiences are also more accessible now. With the integration of Tabby, Coca-Cola Arena is introducing flexible payment terms, so fans can split the cost of tickets, hospitality and other add-ons across transparent instalment options.
A range of additional high-value add-ons are already elevating the gameday and concert experience. Attendees can skip the queue with pre-ordering food and beverage with their ticket. With Merchandise Click & Collect, unique and limited-edition souvenirs can be ordered online and picked up at express kiosks. Perhaps most important to UAE audiences is access to ultimate premium experiences, with Live Lounge upgrades and access to pre and post-show VIP experiences even after entry.
The updates comes as digital expectations continue to climb: 88% of fans in the region say technology improves their viewing experience, according to recent surveys.
The announcement comes ahead of Dubai AI Week 2025, where 8,000 industry experts will join 500 investors and 100 exhibitors from around the world as the UAE works to build global leadership in the digital sector. AI is expected to contribute approximately 13.6% to the UAE's GDP, amounting to around $100 billion (AED367 billion) by 2030.
With an action-packed agenda of concerts and games for 2025, these new features will strengthen Coca-Cola Arena's status as a global benchmark for smart venue infrastructure, ensuring convenience, excitement and lasting memories for every guest.

Dubai Basketball wraps up historic debut season following knockout in Belgrade
Despite taking an early lead, Dubai Basketball suffered a 114-97 defeat at the third and final game of the semi-finals at Belgrade Arena against Serbian powerhouse Partizan. Davis Bertans, Klemen Prepelić, and Nate Mason each sank three-pointers within the first four minutes giving Dubai Basketball an early lead, but by the end of the first quarter, Dubai had stormed ahead with a commanding nine-point lead. However, the momentum began to shift in the second quarter. With the backing of a packed home crowd, Partizan tightened their defence and gradually closed the gap, reducing Dubai's lead to just a single point by the end of the third quarter. As the game progressed into the third and fourth quarters, Partizan demonstrated why they are seven-time ABA League champions. Although they surged ahead, Dubai refused to go down without a fight, repeatedly equalising the score and keeping the contest wide open. In the final quarter, Partizan pulled away, scoring an impressive 28 points that widened the gap to 17 and ultimately secured their place in the finals. Dubai, however, walked away with their heads held high, having challenged one of Europe's top basketball teams to the very end. "Throughout the season, we played good basketball. We claimed major wins – including victories over some of the league's giants – and today, we pushed Partizan into a serious battle for a place in the finals," said Dubai Basketball's head coach Jurica Golemac. This season has been nothing short of historic for the first-ever sports club in the country representing the city of Dubai. It has laid the foundation for a legacy in the making, one that is not only transforming the sporting landscape in the country but also supporting the region's presence on the global basketball stage. Dubai Basketball officially set out on their journey in the Adriatic League in September – competing against some of the most prolific teams in Europe. From beating reigning champions Red Star in their opening game to being one of the only teams in the league to beat Partizan twice in their home court, the 2024/25 season was packed with milestones. Reflecting on the season, Golemac said: "We must be satisfied. This was our first season, with 13 new players in total. We were fortunate to have selected not only top-quality athletes but also exceptional people who made this journey smoother." He added that "plans for the future are already underway. In fact, they've been in motion throughout the season. Analysis, planning – it all continues. As they say, the off-season begins tomorrow, and so does our preparation for what comes next". Dubai Basketball's debut has shown that a newly established team can rise to challenge Europe's elite — creating something monumental for the sport, not just in the country, but across the Middle East.

WhatsApp to introduce usernames? Here's what you need to know
Soon, you may no longer need to give out your phone number to chat on WhatsApp. WhatsApp is working on a long-anticipated feature: usernames — allowing people to connect with others without sharing their actual phone numbers. This brings WhatsApp closer to platforms like Telegram and Signal, which have long offered similar privacy-centric options. According to findings from WABetaInfo (via Tecnoblog), traces of the feature were recently discovered in the TestFlight beta version for iOS. While it's not yet live for testers, WhatsApp appears to be building the system's framework and interface in the background. The introduction of usernames could mark a significant privacy milestone for WhatsApp, giving users greater control over who sees their personal information. Instead of displaying a phone number by default, the app will soon allow people to identify one another via unique handles. How will it work? Initial details reveal that users will be able to create a unique username consisting of lowercase letters, numbers, periods, and underscores. There are a few key rules: Usernames must contain at least one letter, to prevent all-number or symbol-based handles. Usernames can't start with " to avoid confusion with websites. A confetti animation will confirm a successful username creation. Once live, your username will appear in chats and groups in place of your phone number — especially when people don't already have your number saved. This could be particularly useful for engaging in public groups or interacting with businesses and communities. WhatsApp plans to treat username updates the same way it handles profile photo or number changes — by notifying others in a system message within chats. This ensures transparency and helps contacts keep up with changes. Another neat addition: the web version of WhatsApp will eventually include a tool to check username availability before you commit to one. When will it launch? As of now, there's no official release date. But the fact that development strings are already showing up in recent beta builds is a strong indicator that the feature could be coming soon — part of a string of recent updates including the long-awaited release of WhatsApp's iPad app. With usernames, WhatsApp is taking a clear step toward more private and flexible communication, while catching up with its competitors in the modern messaging space.
