Mobile Game Monday: WIND PEAKS
We are currently in that strange seasonal limbo between the end of summer and the beginning of fall. Wind Peaks is a search-and-find adventure that captures this weird feeling of summertime madness and autumnal anticipation.

Wind Peaks is a 2020 hidden object puzzle game developed and published by Actoon Studio. Unravel the story of a troop of scouts who follow a mysterious map to a magical forest. Screenshots courtesy of Cassie Holguin.
This charming little indie gem features highly stylized and unique hand-drawn cartoon visuals. The short but sweet story is told through comics, and Where's Waldo? style hidden object maps.

Move objects like bushes, backpacks, sleeping bags, and more simply by clicking and dragging. Each level has a list of objects to find, from critters to camping gear. Help the scouts through a forest to a farm and everything in between by finding all of the items needed to unlock the next level. Screenshots courtesy of Cassie Holguin.
Sometimes you will need to locate a specific item first to find another. For example, on one level, you must first find a camera to take a picture of a goat. Or on another level that takes place at night, uncovering the flashlight is a priority.

My favorite adventure is the witch's house, where you search a cat-filled plot of land for several missing kitties, cat food, a litter box, and more. Some items can be particularly tricky to find, like this blasted broom. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin.
If you do get frustrated, no worries, Wind Peaks features a nifty little hint system. Select the object on the list you are struggling with, and a two-minute timer begins. Quickly try your best to find the item because when time is up, a marker will reveal the object's hiding spot.

Wind Peaks is very short and not quite worth the retail price tag of $13.99. However, if you see a deal on this one, definitely pick it up. Finding all of the items rarely feels like a chore because there is so much to discover on each level. Screenshot courtesy of Cassie Holguin.
Overall, Wind Peaks is a great casual game with a whimsical story, charming graphics, and simple but satisfying gameplay. It has a mysterious but cozy charm to it that makes it great for fans of Gravity Falls or Cozy Grove .

Statue of Birmingham City legend Francis unveiled
A bronze statue of former Birmingham City and England forward Trevor Francis has been unveiled at the club's St Andrews stadium to honour his legacy. The former striker died of a heart attack at the age of 69 in 2023 and the statue was unveiled on Saturday ahead of the Trevor Francis Memorial pre-season friendly against Nottingham Forest, another of his former clubs. A friend of the footballer and lifelong Blues supporter, Brummie comedian Jasper Carrott, was at the unveiling. He said it was "a very emotional day". Carrott said Francis had been "more than just a footballer", adding he was a fantastic human being and it had been a "privilege" to know him. Several former teammates who played alongside Francis were also there as club chief executive Jeremy Dale unveiled the statue, created by sculptor Douglas Jennings. "He wasn't just a footballer, he was our footballer," Dale said. "Trevor, speaking personally , was my boyhood hero. He was the kind of player who made you fall in love with the beautiful game." Speaking of Francis in his time as manager of the Blues, he said he gave people "pride, passion and a belief that this club could rise". Francis made his debut for Birmingham as a 16-year-old and became British football's first £1m player when he left the Blues to join Forest in 1979. A few weeks later, he scored the winning goal as Forest won the first of their two successive European Cups. Garry Birtles, who played alongside Francis at Nottingham Forest, described him as "one of the most unassuming people you could ever meet" and "a joy to be with". Jasper Carrott hosted a sell-out memorial concert in to honour Francis as "a proper send-off" for his friend at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham earlier this year. Money raised went to the Trevor Francis Foundation, part of the Birmingham City Foundation, to fund two football tournaments for local children.
