US says ties with India, Pakistan ‘remain unchanged' amid Trump's tariff moves and Munir visits

First Post4 days ago
The United States has reaffirmed that its ties with both India and Pakistan 'remain unchanged,' even as tensions simmer over trade tariffs, energy deals, and provocative remarks from Pakistan's army chief.
State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce has said that the United States' relationships with both Pakistan and India 'remain unchanged,' emphasising that American diplomats are 'committed to both nations.'
Her remarks come amid evolving dynamics between New Delhi and Washington, following President Donald Trump's announcement of additional tariffs on India over its trade ties with Russia. At the same time, Pakistan and the US have reached an agreement to develop oil reserves.
Bruce's comments also followed reported remarks by Pakistan's army chief, Gen Asim Munir, in Florida, where he allegedly warned that Pakistan could use nuclear weapons against India, and 'half the world', if faced with an existential threat.

Recalling past crisis management
Speaking at a State Department briefing, Bruce referred to an earlier India–Pakistan crisis that could have 'developed into something quite horrible.' She said there had been 'immediate concern and movement' from Vice President JD Vance, President Trump, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to defuse the situation.

'We described the nature of the phone calls and the work we did to stop the attacks, bringing the parties together to create something enduring,' she said. 'It's a very proud moment that Secretary Rubio, Vice President Vance, and our top leaders were involved in preventing a potential catastrophe.'
She reiterated that the US relationship with 'both nations remains unchanged — good,' and that American diplomats 'are committed to both nations.'
Counter-terrorism cooperation in Islamabad
Highlighting the US–Pakistan counter-terrorism dialogue held in Islamabad on Tuesday, Bruce said both sides had reaffirmed their 'shared commitment to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations' and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation against terrorist threats.
'For the region and for the world, the US working with both these nations is good news and will promote a future that's beneficial,' she added.
Munir's second US visit in two months
Gen Munir's trip marks his second visit to the United States in less than two months, following a private luncheon with Trump in June. He arrived in Washington on Sunday for a series of high-level meetings with senior US political and military leaders.

Output growth forecast for Taiwan semiconductors increased

Taipei [Taiwan], August 17 (ANI): Taiwan's government-supported Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) has raised its forecast for 2025 growth in the output value of the country's semiconductor industry to above 22 per cent on strong global demand for artificial intelligence applications, Focus Taiwan reported. In its latest IEK Current Quarterly Model report, the ITRI said the local semiconductor industry will have output of NT$6.5 trillion (US$216.67 billion) in 2025, up 22.2 per cent from a year earlier, an upward revision from a 19.1 per cent increase estimate made in May. The ITRI said the strong showing of the local semiconductor industry largely reflected the stronger-than-expected performance of the IC manufacturing segment. The ITRI forecast came after Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the world's largest contract chipmaker, raised its forecast of sales growth to 30 per cent in 2025 from a previous estimate of 24-26 per cent. According to the Focus Taiwan report, TSMC attributed the higher guidance to the greater computing power needed for emerging AI applications, which has driven higher global demand for advanced chips. According to the ITRI, the IC manufacturing sector will generate NT$4.36 trillion in output in 2025, up 27.5 per cent from a year earlier, compared with an earlier estimate of a 23.1 per cent increase. The output value of the pure foundry wafer business, where TSMC has taken the lead over its peers globally, is expected to reach NT$4.16 trillion, up 28.3 per cent from a year earlier, the ITRI said, as per the report. In 2025, the IC packaging segment is expected to see its output rising 13.5 per cent from a year earlier to NT$480.3 billion, while the IC testing segment is expected to post NT$230.5 billion in output, up 15.2 per cent from a year earlier, the news report cited the ITRI report. The IC design segment is expected to grow 12.1 per cent in 2025 to an output value of NT$1.42 trillion, and down from 13.9 per cent growth previously estimated, the ITRI said. In the second quarter, Taiwan's semiconductor industry posted an output value of NT$1.6 trillion, up 7.4 per cent from a quarter earlier. The IC manufacturing segment was the best performer in the industry, with NT$1.06 trillion in output, up 10.4 per cent from a quarter earlier, the ITRI said. The institute said the production value of the local semiconductor industry is expected to rise to about NT$1.68 trillion in the third quarter, up 4.8 per cent from a quarter earlier, while the output of the IC manufacturing segment is forecast to hit NT$1.15 trillion, up 7.3 per cent from the second quarter. ‘Holster hand' or hidden rage? Body language expert reveals chilling reason behind Putin's gesture after Donald Trump's bomber flyer

The wait is finally over, as the most anticipated meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin took place in Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday, August 15, 2025. The meeting grabbed the attention of fans for political reasons, but this is not the only thing that everyone's talking about. According to UNILAD, a body language expert has sparked fresh debate after analysing a chilling hand gesture made by Putin following a tense moment involving Donald Trump. The incident occurred after Trump authorised a show of force by flying nuclear-capable bombers over Putin's location. According to the expert, Putin's subtle but deliberate gesture, captured on camera, may indicate suppressed rage, a calculated threat or an attempt to reassert dominance in a high-stakes geopolitical standoff. The analysis has since gone viral, with many interpreting it as a veiled warning amid rising global tensions. WATCH: Deplorable Trump clapping for a murderous war criminal. What a disgrace to our country's ideals. Trump always shows his true colors around Putin by selling out America and our allies. Even past Republican presidents like Reagan & Bush always stood up to tyrants.… When Donald Trump met Vladimir Putin Following nearly three hours of high-level discussions, both presidents held a brief conference where former US President Donald Trump expressed cautious optimism about the outcome. "We didn't get there, but we have a very good chance of getting there," Trump stated, describing the talks as 'extremely productive.' He noted that while several key points had been agreed upon, only a few issues remained unresolved. Trump added that he planned to make follow-up calls to update others on the progress, signalling potential movement toward a broader understanding between the two leaders. "Some are not that significant. 'One is probably the most significant,' he added. On Friday, both leaders touched down at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska's largest military installation, where they disembarked from their respective aircraft and greeted each other with a handshake on the red carpet. As they walked side by side across the tarmac, the skies above roared with a display of four F-35 fighter jets and a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber flying overhead. Vladimir Putin's hand gesture 'reveals' chilling details, as per experts According to celebrity psychic and body language expert Inbaal Honigman, Putin appeared to respond with a subtle and deliberate hand gesture. He told UNILAD that as fighter jets drew closer overhead, Putin reacted noticeably faster than Trump, picking up on the sound well before his American counterpart. Though the flyover may have come as a surprise to the Russian leader, while likely anticipated by Trump, footage shows Putin sharply turning his gaze toward the noise. A B-2 strategic bomber, escorted by four F-22 Raptor fighters, just flew over Trump and is the very bomber that took part in the mission to destroy Iran's nuclear program, which was hidden in fortified bunkers.A hint that Putin's bunker won't save him? Most striking, however, was his body language: his so-called 'holster hand' visibly tensed and stiffened over his pocket, a subtle yet telling signal of heightened alertness or underlying tension. "Putin is known for his famous 'Gunslinger Gait', meaning he's always walked with one hand swinging loosely, while the other is still, as if ready to draw a weapon at a moment's notice. This is believed to be part of his KGB training. To stay updated on the stories that are going viral, follow Indiatimes Trending.
