Texans players to wear No. 79
No. 79 currently belongs to rookie offensive tackle Aireontae Ersery. The Texans believe he can be the long-term replacement for five-time Pro Bowl left tackle Laremy Tunsil following his trade to the Washington Commanders earlier this offseason.
Ersery, who was drafted 48th overall, was considered the best offensive lineman prospect of Day 2. During his three years as the Golden Gophers' starting left tackle, the Kansas City native only allowed just five sacks and 11 QB hits in over 1,400 pass-blocking snaps in Big Ten games. Ersery was also named the Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2024 and a third-team AP All-American.
"He's steadily gotten better at the things off the field, of finding his routine, and also on the field, just seeing his footwork, his pad leverage, is getting better, it's improving," Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said earlier this month. "So, I can't wait to see him actually put pads on and have to block [Danielle] Hunter and [Will] Anderson, that's going to be a really good challenge for him."
Since Ersery hasn't played a snap yet, it's hard to envision him as the No. 1 option ever to wear No. 79. That could change in the coming years, but there's really only one option who should be fighting over G.O.A.T. status entering fall camp.
Best Player: Brandon Brooks
Brooks is the only legit option since Allen ended up becoming a bust. While his best years came in Philadelphia, the three-time Pro Bowler was a part of two playoff-bound teams during his tenure in Houston. That's enough to make the list on a short-term.

Aug. 13 (UPI) -- The Buffalo Bills agreed to a four-year, $48 million contract extension with James Cook, the Pro Bowl running back confirmed Wednesday on social media. The pact includes $30 million guaranteed, the most paid to a running back in the last five years. Cook, 25, was entering the final year of his rookie contract. The fourth-year running back totaled a career-high 1,567 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns over 17 games in 2023. He totaled 1,267 yards from scrimmage and scored 18 times, including a league-high and franchise record-tying 16 rushing touchdowns, over 16 starts in 2024. Cook was in full uniform and a full participant in practice Tuesday, ending a four-day hold-in. He also missed the Bills' first preseason game. The Bills will participate in a joint practice with the Chicago Bears on Friday in Chicago, and the Bears will host the Bills in their second preseason game at 8 p.m. EDT Sunday in Chicago. They will play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their preseason finale Aug. 23 in Tampa, Fla. Cook and the Bills will host the Baltimore Ravens in their regular season opener Sept. 7 in Orchard Park, N.Y.

The Seattle Seahawks may have found their quarterback of the future this offseason, signing Sam Darnold to a three-year, $100.5 million contract in free agency. ESPN's Seth Walder clearly does not think all that highly of Darnold and is expecting the Seahawks to have a different player under center as soon as 2027. As a matter of fact, Walder is predicting Seattle to even make it all the way to the Super Bowl that season ... sans Darnold. But does Darnold have enough support around him to replicate his 2024 campaign? Or is he doomed to failure in the Pacific Northwest? Andre Johnson's Hall of Fame ring stolen in home burglary
Andre Johnson's home was 'ransacked' during a burglary in late July, KPRC 2 reported Friday. Multiple items were stolen in the incident — the wideout advised local police that he wanted to pursue criminal charges — including the former wide receiver's Pro Football Hall of Fame ring, per KPRC 2. Upon arriving to the scene, police said that they found Johnson's bedroom door was open with the room's window being smashed, per KPRC 2.
