"Pain Will Not Go, But...": Pahalgam Victim's Wife On Operation Mahadev
Twenty-six people, mostly tourists, were killed and several were injured when terrorists opened fire at a meadow near the popular tourist town of Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on April 22.
"I'm really kind of in a relief that it is a good start. At the end of the day, the pain will not go. The closure will not happen but at least some peace will come to us," Ms Dwivedi, who was holidaying with her husband and other family members in Pahalgam when the terror attack took place, told NDTV.
Ms Dwivedi stressed that terrorism is a like a cancer and it needs to be finished.
"Somewhere, somewhere we will now sleep well knowingly that those people who actually killed my husband are dead and the people who are behind this, people who are actually sitting somewhere and doing this, these operations, commanding these terrorists, they will also be dead soon and I know this because I have faith in our India Army," she said.
Shubham Dwivedi, a businessman from Kanpur, got married on February 12. On April 22, the Dwivedi household was devastated as news came in that the 31-year-old was gunned down by terrorists right in front of his wife in Pahalgam.
Asked to recount how the attack unfolded, Ms Dwivedi said," They were not doing it in groups. They came through different sides. Because Shubham was the one who was shot first, so the person who fired the first gunshot, he came from near the entry gate.
Yeah, I really remember that very well. He came from the entry gate."
"Also, I do not know how these people got those weapons up there because it's a trail and you cannot carry those big weapons. But it happened. Yeah. It did happen and we are the victims. We are going through this. I cannot sleep even a day without thinking about it," she added.
Suleiman Shah, identified as the mastermind of the J&K terror attack and a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist, was killed today in an operation codenamed Operation Mahadev, named after Mahadev Peak in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar.
Asked to describe her husband, Ms Dwivedi said he was the "heart of the family".
"He was a beautiful soul, happy soul. I know that I've been with him six months, 22 days and there was not a single day when I wasn't happy with him. I was happy every second. He made sure of it. He loved me so, so, so much that he could actually bring the world to me. He was like that. He was the heart of the family," she said.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, had visited Shubham Dwivedi's family in Kanpur.

Mumbai woman's morphed private photo sent to relative, friends over ₹2,000 loan
A 25-year-old woman was harassed and her morphed nude photo was sent to relative and friends for borrowing ₹2,000 from an app. The woman, a resident of the city's Jogeshwari West area, was blackmailed and harassed by a person claiming to work with the online loan app firm. FIR filed after Mumbai woman faces blackmail by Instagram cash loan app(Representative image/Pixabay) Police officials said that the victim came across an advertisement for a mobile application named Cash Loan on Instagram while she was seeking financial assistance, NDTV reported. In hopes of getting money easily, the woman downloaded the app on July 20 and submitted her personal details, including her Aadhaar card and bank account information, as part of the registration process. She applied for a ₹2,000 loan but received only ₹1,300, which was granted as a loan for a period of six days, the news outlet reported. But things soon took dramatic turn, even before the loan term expired, a person claiming to be an employee of the loan firm allegedly began to threaten her. According to the Mumbai woman's complaint cited by the news channel, the caller warned her that her obscene photographs would be leaked online if she didn't repay the loan immediately. Victim paid, yet explicit images sent to contacts In response to the threats, the woman transferred ₹1,000 twice via a payment application to a person identified as Sandesh Kumar. However, despite the payments, she received a distressing call from her aunt an hour later, reported NDTV. The aunt had received a morphed nude image of the woman on WhatsApp from an unknown number. The same photo was subsequently sent to two of the woman's friends from the same sender. Frightened and unsure of how to respond, the woman informed her father, who then approached local police for help. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered in the case, and an investigation is currently underway. Authorities have not confirmed whether any arrests have been made at this stage.

J&K: Operation Akhal enters Day 3; at least one terrorist killed during encounter with security forces
NEW DELHI: At least one terrorist was killed in an encounter after the security forces carried out Operation Akhal in Jammu and Kashmir 's Kulgam district. According to Chinar Corps of the Army, the operation, which started on Friday, continued overnight as troops responded with calibrated fire. "OP AKHAL, Kulgam. Intermittent and intense firefight continued through the night. Alert troops responded with calibrated fire and tightened the noose while maintaining contact," Chinar Corps wrote in a social media post on X. "One terrorist has been neutralised by the security forces so far. Operation continues," the post added on X. The gunfight broke out on Friday evening in the Akhal Khulsan forest area after joint teams of the Army, J&K Police, and Special Operations Group launched a combing operation, based on intelligence inputs about the presence of three to five terrorists. According to officials, the identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorist are being ascertained. They added that the operation is still underway. Security forces have been carrying out aggressive operations against terrorists in the hinterland, while the Army has been on maximum alert guarding the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. Three hardcore Pakistani terrorists, including LeT commander Suleman Shah and his two associates Abu Hamza and Jibran, responsible for the Pahalgam attack, were killed on July 28 in the higher reaches of Dachigam National Park at the foot of the Mahadev mountain peak in the Harwan area of Srinagar. The Army code-named this operation Operation Mahadev. After the Pahalgam terror attack, the security forces have been carrying out anti-terrorist operations against gun-wielding terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathisers. Drug smugglers and drug peddlers are also on the radar of the security forces, as it is believed that the funds generated by hawala money rackets and drug smuggling are used to sustain terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The coordinated and information-backed operations of the joint forces are aimed at dismantling the ecosystem of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, rather than focusing solely on the elimination of gun-wielding terrorists.

Pahalgam Attacker's Symbolic Funeral In PoK Confirms Pakistan's Link To Attack: Report
Last Updated: The event further confirmed Islamabad's hand in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people in Jammu and Kashmir. The symbolic funeral (Janaza-Ghaib) for Tahir Habib (Jibran), one of the Pahalgam terrorists killed in Operation Mahadev in Jammu and Kashmir, was recently held in his native village of Khai Gala in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), reported The Times of India. The event further confirmed Islamabad's hand in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people in Jammu and Kashmir. Footage posted on Telegram shows villagers, including elderly locals, gathering for final prayers in memory of Habib, a former Pakistani soldier and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative. Tahir, designated as a Category 'A' terrorist, had been a key target for Indian security agencies due to his role in cross-border militancy. His death, along with two others in Srinagar last week in Operation Mahadev, marked a significant success for Indian forces. However, the ceremony took an unexpected turn when local Lashkar commander Rizwan Hanif attempted to attend. According to eyewitnesses, the family rejected the presence of LeT operatives, but Hanif persisted, resulting in a tense exchange. 'Lashkar operatives threatened mourners with a gun, sparking outrage among villagers. The residents of Khai Gala, who have long been wary of radicalisation, are now planning a public boycott to oppose terror recruitment," a source familiar with the incident said. The tensions surrounding Habib's funeral reflect not just local resentment against terror groups, but also the broader reach of India's retaliatory operations like Operation Sindoor, aimed at dismantling cross-border terror networks in the aftermath of the Pahalgam massacre. Under 'Operation Mahadev,' Indian forces on July 28 neutralised three Pakistani terrorists in the Lidwas forest near Harwan, on the outskirts of Srinagar. According to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the three were behind the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 people. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Shah identified one of the slain terrorists as Suleiman, the key planner of the attack. The others were named Afghan and Jibran (Tahir Habib) — all senior operatives of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
