5 most intriguing games on Patriots 2025 schedule
The New England Patriots have several games on the 2025 NFL schedule that should be circled in red.
It's a pivotal season for the team with Mike Vrabel set to embark on his first year as the Patriots' head coach. They have finished their last two consecutive seasons with a 4-13 record, and the team has made every effort in the offseason to rectify the situation.

Week 5, Oct. 5: at Bills (8:20 p.m. ET) - Sunday Night Football on NBC and Peacock
This is the first time that New England will face reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills under Mike Vrabel. It will also be the Patriots' first primetime game of the season in a Sunday Night Football matchup. The ultimate measuring stick for New England in the AFC East is the Bills.

They'll have their work cut out for them going on the road in a tough environment against one of the best teams in football. How will the new-look Patriots defense fare against Allen and the explosive Bills offense?
Week 7, Oct. 19: at Titans (1:00 p.m. ET) - CBS
The return of Mike Vrabel to Music City in Nashville immediately jumped out on the Patriots' 2025 schedule. Vrabel got the Titans back to the AFC Championship Game in 2019, and he won Coach of the Year in 2021. That didn't stop the Titans from firing him in 2024.
He might not voice it publicly, but he's probably looking forward to the opportunity to come back to Tennessee and beat his former team. The Patriots' defense will also get its first crack at Titans quarterback Cam Ward, the rookie No. 1 overall draft pick.
Week 12, Nov. 23: at Bengals (1:00 p.m. ET) - CBS
It was quite an upset win for the Patriots when they took on the Cincinnati Bengals in the season opener last year. Will lightning strike twice?

Cincinnati has historically had slow starts to begin the year, and now the Patriots will face them in the middle of the season. This should be a good test for the team, and it could have a huge impact on the playoff race, depending on where each team sits.
The Patriots' defense will face the monumental task of slowing down a high-powered Bengals offense led by quarterback Joe Burrow, who played at an MVP level last season.
Week 13, Dec. 1: vs. Giants (8:15 p.m. ET) - ESPN
The Giants have a revamped quarterback room led by Russell Wilson, while star rookie edge defender Abdul Carter provides hope for the defense. This will be a primetime Monday Night Football game featuring two teams with a rich history together.

An upstate rivalry has dwelled here ever since the Giants ruined the Patriots' perfect 2007 season. The players from that era might be gone, but tradition and pride should make this one of the more intriguing games on the Patriots' 2025 schedule.
Week 11, Nov. 13: vs. Jets (8:15 p.m. ET) - Amazon Prime Video
The Jets and Patriots were the two worst teams in the AFC East division last season. Things have obviously changed with Mike Vrabel taking over the Patriots and drastically improving the roster. Meanwhile, the Jets have a new head coach in Aaron Glenn and no more Aaron Rodgers at quarterback.
It will likely be Justin Fields under center at quarterback when the Jets travel to Foxborough for this Thursday Night Football showdown in November. There are major question marks for both teams heading into the season, but we might finally get some answers when they collide in the primetime spotlight.

Khalil Mack 'couldn't give up on that dream' of winning with the Chargers
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — Khalil Mack mulled retirement early in the offseason. It didn't take long for him to decide to return to the Los Angeles Chargers. He agreed on a contract extension in March, never becoming an unrestricted free agent. 'Got tremendous leadership here, very familiar with guys already here,' he said Wednesday at minicamp. 'It was a no-brainer.' Mack, who turned 34 in February, is in his 12th season in the league and fourth with the Chargers. Despite nine Pro Bowl selections and a Defensive Player of the Year honor, he has never won a playoff game in five appearances. 'You're chasing that feeling of wanting to win,' Mack said. 'I couldn't give up on that dream and that goal for myself and the franchise.' Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter said having Mack return 'means everything.' 'Khalil is one of the best ever to do it,' he said. Mack was at the Chargers facility to train in February and March, setting a tone for his teammates. 'The impact that he had on other people to train at his level is pretty incredible,' Minter said. 'For young guys to have him around, it just makes everybody better.' The Tigers Need To Trade For A Starter After Losing Jackson Jobe
The Detroit Tigers have the best record in MLB at 44-24, but they'll have to press on without a highly promising young pitcher for the rest of the season. Jackson Jobe will undergo Tommy John surgery according to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press. Jobe, a 22-year-old right-hander, was the third overall pick in the 2021 draft and the consensus top pitching prospect in the minors before the 2025 season (excluding Roki Sasaki). Every major prospect ranking outlet had him in the top five overall on their preseason lists. He made two appearances for the Tigers out of the bullpen at the end of the 2024 season, then pitched twice more in the playoffs. He began the year in Detroit's rotation, but failed to live up to the hype. In 10 starts and 49 innings, he compiled a 4.22 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP with just 39 strikeouts. Batters hit .296 with a .519 slugging percentage against his vaunted fastball. Even more concerning was that his fastball velocity decreased rapidly over the course of the season. Early in spring training, he averaged 98.5 mph, but in his last start before going on the injured list, he was down to 95.5 mph. That can often be a precursor to an injury, and now he will miss the rest of this year and most or all of the 2026 campaign too. The Tigers have enjoyed a dream start to the season and are positioned to make an easy run to the playoffs, but they have to be concerned about their pitching depth. Jobe is one of five Detroit starting pitchers on the injured list at the moment. Reese Olson is sidelined with ring finger inflammation, while Alex Cobb, Ty Madden, and José Urquidy have all yet to pitch this year. The front three pitchers in their rotation have certainly held their own. Tarik Skubal is aiming for his second Cy Young Award in a row, and he leads the American League with a 1.85 FIP, 0.8 walks per nine innings, and 11.3 strikeouts per nine innings. If he can maintain his 15.0 strikeouts-to-walks ratio, it would shatter the MLB single-season record. Jack Flaherty and Casey Mize also have excellent 3.41 and 2.91 ERAs respectively. Keider Montero and Sawyer Gipson-Long have been pressed into duty by all the injuries. Montero has made six starts and three relief appearances, but has only struck out 30 batters in 46 innings while giving up 48 hits and 17 walks. Gipson-Long missed almost the entirety of the 2024 season, only making one appearance in the minors. He has already pitched at four levels this year, including 8 1/3 innings for the Tigers. With Jackson Jobe out of action until possibly 2027, Detroit has already scraped the bottom of the barrel of their pitching depth. They should become major players in the trade market for starting pitching before the deadline at the end of July. They may even need to acquire more than one hurler, especially if another pitcher gets hurt, and Jobe's fate is a reminder of how fragile pitchers' arms can be.
