A Wicklow man had a "nightmare" few weeks after he lost his car in a Cork estate following a stag do.
On Wednesday, Neil Prendeville spoke with Kieran on his Cork's Red FM show, who had travelled to the Rebel County on April 4 for a stag. He parked his 2010 Skoda Superb in a housing estate in Cork before heading into the stag, parking it within a 30-minute walk of the city centre - but he subsequently couldn't remember where he left it.
The Wicklow man had been visiting the city every weekend since that fateful Friday night but hadn't been able to find it. He checked with the local pound, and was also in regular contact with gardai.
True to their nature, the people of Cork came up trumps and the car was found within minutes of the plea going out on air on the show, with eagle-eyed listener Susan Maguire spotting Kieran's car on Tory Top Road, reports the Irish Mirror. "I had a stag party in Cork," Kieran said.
"Shout out to Spud, it was his stag. And look, I got into the city late at night and I couldn't find anywhere to park in the city.
"I got fed up of it, and I drove way out of the city, towards the south of the city. I'm not too sure how far I drove out, but I parked up in an estate.
"And since then, I haven't laid an eye on the car since. I just can't find the estate where I left the car."
The stag took the group to some great pubs in Cork City, and down in Kinsale the next day during the glorious mini-heatwave earlier in April. One of Kieran's mates stayed on to help him scour Cork for the Skoda.
Kieran said: "We were in O'Dwyer's and Reardon's. We were in Kinsale as well, actually, on the Saturday, and that was phenomenal; it was really good weather back then as well. And look, there was music, it was ideal."
They spent close to five hours touring two housing estates in search of his vanished motor. Kieran said: "One of the boys stayed back with me and we drove around Cork. We were the guts of five hours driving around two estates looking for this car.
"I put so much hours into finding this car. It's actually the stupidest thing I've ever done. It's just been a nightmare.
"I actually went back the Sunday and I've been down the weekends ever since. I'm actually from Wicklow myself, so I can't just rock on down to Cork every day."

Garda GoSafe cameras to come in at level crossings as drivers risk fines

Drivers could be fined an automatic €160 for breaking certain rules as new cameras are set to be installed. The Garda GoSafe cameras will be placed at level crossings to enhance safety and prevent injuries or damage. It was explained that the cameras were designed to be moveable, so they will be able to change locations. Speaking about the new cameras, journalist Fergal O'Brien said on RTE Radio 1's Morning Ireland: "The Garda GoSafe cameras, which will initially operate in a test phase, will be used to record motorists inappropriately using level crossings. Iarnród Éireann said that the cameras are designed to be easily relocatable and will be deployed depending on driver behaviour. "The cameras will automatically issue a fine of €160 for speeding and €80 for breaking a red light, with the motorist also liable for three penalty points. The railway operators said that the aim of the cameras is to enhance safety for rail and road users, including pedestrians and cyclists, by deterring risk taking behaviour. "Of the 30 incidents across the rail network so far this year, Iarnród Éireann said that 11 resulted in road users being injured or level crossings being damaged." Speed surveys were previously carried out in a number of areas, including one which saw 152 km/h recorded in a 50 km/h zone. Head of Corporate Communications at Iarnród Éireann Barry Kenny said: "When you have situations where vehicles hit level crossings, or indeed bridges... there's a very significant impact to our services. Safety is critical in terms of protecting road users themselves, protecting other vulnerable road users like pedestrians, or cyclists that might be going to the crossings and then avoiding delays and disruption to the rail service as well. "So by putting this in place, it is a very strong deterrent. Where these GoSafe cameras have been on the road network separately with the gardaí before, you see 98.5% compliance."
