Live music event to be held for Optimo's JD Twitch

STV News16-07-2025
A special music event is to be held in Glasgow to raise funds for Optimo's JD Twitch following his brain tumour diagnosis.
Keith McIvor, one half of the legendary Glasgow clubbing duo, revealed he had been diagnosed with glioblastoma earlier this month.
An update on Tuesday revealed that his condition has rapidly progressed, affecting his speech, mobility, and independence, and he now requires 24-hour nursing care.
McIvor's wife, Marissa, created a fundraiser to help cover private residential nursing, additional support services, and essentials for ongoing palliative care.
The GoFundMe has so far raised over £86,000.
Queen's Park Arena has announced it will host an event on Sunday, July 20, in collaboration with Optimo Music, in an effort to add to the fundraiser.
McIvor originally planned the event as a fundraiser for Glasgow NW Foodbank, but it will now also support his treatment, care, and family.
The portion of proceeds initially intended for the food bank will still be donated as planned, as he had wished.
Any additional donations will be split between causes close to the DJ's heart, including Glasgow NW Foodbank, the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights, Brainstrust, and Crete's Taki's dog shelter.
Isa Gordon, Tony Morris, Semispecific Ensemble and GK Machine are among those taking part in the event.
Chet Capkiner, director of Inhouse CIC at Queens Park Arena, said: 'Optimo has been our spiritual home for so many of us for decades.
'Keith's presence and influence changed many lives – including mine. This is a chance for us to return that care and energy, and to support him and his family when it matters most. A true musical mentor and inspiration to us all'

"David is showing such incredible strength and resilience, and even in the midst of this darkness, he's still managing to keep his sense of humor. It's a reminder of how amazing he is. "But we know this journey ahead will be extremely tough, David made it clear he is not giving up hope and we're going to need all of your love and prayers." 2 Roach performing on stage in Bristol, Connecticut in 1991 Credit: Getty More to follow... Junkyard frontman David Roach dies age 59 two weeks after tying the knot

David Roach, lead singer of 80s rock group Junkyard, has died at age 59 after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. His bandmates shared the devastating news on Instagram, sharing that he died 'in the loving arms of his wife', Jennifer Roach. The pair had only tied the knot on July 19, just two weeks before his death, in a private ceremony with their closest friends. 'It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Roach,' the band wrote. 'After a courageous battle with cancer, David passed away peacefully last night at home, in the loving arms of his wife. 'He was a gifted artist, performer, songwriter, and singer—but above all, a devoted father, husband, and brother. Our thoughts are with the entire Roach family and everyone who loved him.' The Simple Man hitmaker was diagnosed in late March with squamous cell carcinoma, a common type of skin cancer. His wife had left her job in order to become his full-time carer, with a GoFundMe launched to help cover his medical bills as he needed around-the-clock care. 'David is a true friend to everyone he meets,' the GoFundMe read. 'He has a knack for making people feel special and appreciated, and his incredible sense of humor always brings laughter and happiness to those around him. 'His generous spirit really shines through in everything he does, including donating his amazing artwork to support others.' The page raised over $36,000 (£27,000) with Jennifer sharing an update that described the time since his diagnosis as 'a nightmare rollercoaster'. On July 21, she wrote that Roach had been living in a cancer centre 'for a month now' but was 'in good spirits' with hopes he could move home soon. Following his death, bandmate Chris Gates shared: 'I loved him like a little brother. We had our ups and downs, but that never changed. My condolences to his brother and sisters, v and to ask the people who lived him or were touched by his/or songs. 'I'll miss playing music with him, but he'll always be an important part of me.' Junkyard formed in 1987 with the core line-up consisting of Roach on vocals, Gates and Brian Baker on guitar, bassist Clay Anthony and drummer Patrick Muzingo. They were often compared to Guns N' Roses, who were also on Geffen Records, the label which dropped Junkyard after two albums. More Trending At the time they had their third album ready to go, which was later released as two issues: XXX and The Joker. After being dropped in 1992, Junkyard disbanded but kept a cult following before reforming in 2000 for a world tour complete with live album from their heyday. In 2017, they released comeback album High Water — their first studio recording in 25 years — with a final single dropped in 2021 titled Lifer. Got a story? They saw workers desperately using equipment to free Ronnie, who was trapped in a six-foot hole filled with fast-moving dirt. When crews took over, they noticed that as more dirt was being pulled out, more collapsed inward. Sensitive infrastructure on the site - including gas lines - meant crews had to use specialised equipment. Tragically, within half an hour, the rescue turned into a gruelling 13-hour-long recovery mission. At around 2am on July 29, crews retrieved his body from the trench. Melissa Prado, the mum of two of Ronnie's children, told ABC15 News that the family is shocked. She said: "My daughter is really torn up. She spends almost every day with him. She's a little distraught, and my son's angry. "They're not really coping too well. His hobby was his children.' Melissa said she is setting aside questions about what happened on that day. Oasis fan plunges to his death 'from upper tier' of Wembley stadium during reunion gig as witness reveals horror 'I'm sure it will come out,' she said. 'But I don't care to know right now.' Ronnie leaves behind two sons and a daughter. His childhood friend Nate Costly organised a vigil at the site on Friday. People gathered to pay their respects to a man who would 'fix things with laughter or his hands', as gospel singer Shatera Williams described him. Nate wrote in a tribute posted on Facebook: 'Ronnie was a loving father and a loyal friend - brutally honest, endlessly caring, and unforgettable.' The state's worker-safety agency, ADOSH, told ABC15 that an investigation has been launched into whether there were safety violations at the site. The outlet added that a safety report could take four to five months to complete. Just days later, Fred Gonzalez and his 18-year-old son were working in a trench just feet from the one that collapsed after being called to inspect nearby piping. Fred told local outlet AZ Central: 'It definitely feels eerie. We all are involved in the underground industry. "The trench they were working in was shored up with a metal box-like structure. It can happen.' A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Ronnie's family with funeral and memorial expenses. It comes as a child died after becoming trapped in a storm drain during flash floods while playing outside with friends. Mason Kearns, 13, from Mount Airy, Maryland, was swept into the pipe on July 31 - just 20 feet from his home - after being caught in strong floodwaters.
