BCC shifts e-Khata applications to Belagavi One centres following corruption concerns

Belagavi: In a bid to streamline the property registration process and curb irregularities, the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) has introduced citizen-friendly reforms for e-Aasthi enrolments. Property owners can now apply for e-Khata registrations through designated Belagavi One centres in the city. Previously, applications were accepted manually at three divisional BCC offices. However, after corporators raised concerns over corruption, BCC commissioner Shubha B conducted a surprise inspection. She discovered that files submitted through middlemen were being prioritised, while genuine applications with complete documentation faced unnecessary delays. Taking immediate action, the commissioner suspended manual submission of applications and transferred the process to Belagavi One centres. "Currently, two centres are operational, one at Ashok Nagar and another at Goaves. Due to increasing workload, we have requested two additional centres at the BCC office building and Konwal Galli. We are expecting those to become operational in a week," she told the TOI. There is no need to approach agents or middlemen," she said, adding that login credentials have been issued to the centres for direct uploading of applications. Commissioner Shubha said BCC successfully cleared a backlog of 3,854 e-Khata applications, some pending for over six months, in just two days recently. However, the pace has slowed due to server issues. "The urban development department informed us that the server would be down for four days; three have already passed. We're hoping for resolution soon," she noted. To raise public awareness, BCC installed a cantilever board at Channamma Circle, listing required documents for obtaining A-Khata and B-Khata certificates. Although a helpline was launched to assist residents with e-Khata queries, it is currently facing challenges. "Most calls are unrelated to e-Khata, making it difficult to resolve actual queries," the commissioner admitted.

Now, residents can complete land mutation online from JDA's portal

Jaipur: In a major technological leap to curb land-related fraud, Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) successfully integrated the 90A Portal, the e-Registration Portal, and the e-Dharti Portal. The integration helps residents complete the process of land mutation entirely online. Soon, JDA will roll out the e-mutation services on its portal. "This step has been taken with property management and transparency in mind. People will get relief from the service of auto mutation through the 90A API on the e-Dharti portal," said JDA Commissioner Anandhi. Officials said to facilitate this service, JDA has integrated its portal with the state govt's e-Dharti portal, 90A Portal, and the e-Registration Portal. This means all details related to a particular piece of land under JDA's jurisdiction are now available on the JDA's portal. "Now, under the present system integrated on the JDA's portal, residents and landowners can transfer land ownership immediately after the conversion of agricultural land for non-agricultural use under Section 90A. Previously, after obtaining a 90A order, applicants often waited for land mutation for years, during which time the land technically remained under the name of the former owner, leading to a heightened risk of fraudulent sales," an official added. The new system ensures that once JDA issues the 90A order online, the application for mutation is automatically generated and sent to the respective tehsildar. After the tehsildar completes a brief verification process and inputs the required details, the mutation is immediately recorded in JDA's name on both the e-Dharti and Apna Khata portals. "If the tehsildars and other officials don't raise any objections, e-mutation shall be completed within a month. Another advantage of this system is that for every official involved in the process, there's a specific timeline. No official can sit on the application for days and must accept the application or raise objections," added the official . JLR to begin car assembly in Tamil Nadu by 2026; Tata Motors delays Avinya EV launch

British auto maker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) will start assembling its luxury vehicles from completely knocked down (CKD) kits at its upcoming factory in Tamil Nadu by early 2026, said senior executives at parent Tata Motors on Tuesday. However, Tata Motors has deferred the launch of its flagship Avinya brand of electric vehicles (EVs) by a year due to engineering and feasibility challenges, the executives told a media briefing. JLR plans to invest about Rs 9,000 crore over five years in Tamil Nadu, marking a strategic realignment for the company's domestic manufacturing footprint. The automaker will initially assemble the Range Rover Evoque and Velar SUVs, with a planned annual capacity of 30,000 units. Eventually, it will also see JLR move operations from Tata Motors' existing facility in Pune to Ranipet, enabling better scale and logistical synergies, said PB Balaji, Group CFO, Tata Motors. 'This move gives us a scalable, future-ready base as JLR expands its portfolio in India,' said Balaji. The site is also expected to serve as a potential base for Tata's premium EV production, including vehicles under the Avinya brand, making it a critical hub for both Tata and JLR operations, he said. The announcement comes amid expectations of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) easing tariffs on imported auto parts and fully-built vehicles. While the FTA may improve the economics of importing cars, local CKD assembly is viewed as a strategic hedge to control costs and keep regulatory flexibility. Tata Motors, however, is now looking at a 2026 timeline—instead of 2025—for the market debut of Avinya, its much-anticipated premium electric offering. 'In 2022, we were optimistic that we could bring Avinya to market in two-and-a-half years,' said Shailesh Chandra, MD – Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility. 'But feasibility issues in certain subsystems and architectural layers meant we needed more engineering time. Some blind spots emerged during execution, and the industrialisation process has taken longer than expected.' Chandra clarified that Avinya will be launched as a standalone premium EV brand , without overt Tata branding, aimed at tapping global demand for high-end electric mobility. Meanwhile, he also flagged policy concerns, especially state-level incentives being extended to hybrid vehicles. 'These distort the market and delay EV adoption,' Chandra said. 'There needs to be policy clarity and consistency. Incentives that favour hybrids over EVs risk undermining the national electrification vision.' Commenting on the impact of geopolitical tensions and tariff wars on JLR, Balaji said Tata Motors is stepping up efforts to manage global headwinds for JLR by activating demand in key markets and launching a cost-cutting drive to offset tariff-related pressures. 'We're dialling up market activation around Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Defender to tap recovery in the UK and stable demand in the US, Europe, and the Middle East,' he said. On the cost side, JLR continues to face 27.5% import tariffs in the US, with duties also applying to vehicles sourced from its Slovakia plant. To mitigate margin pressure, Tata Motors has started a cost-out programme aimed at restoring JLR's 10% EBIT margin over the next 12–18 months. Balaji ruled out any immediate plans for a US manufacturing site, saying JLR would avoid overextending itself in uncertain trade conditions.
