Wimbledon fans make fury clear as Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz final halted

Daily Mirror13-07-2025
Jannik Sinner was needed to remove a champagne cork that was popped and flew onto Centre Court during the second set of the Wimbledon final as boos rang out among the crowd.
The Italian, serving to take a 3-1 lead in the second set after Carlos Alcaraz claimed the opening set, was preparing to serve but had his routine halted by the sound of a bottle of champagne popping - only to see the cork fly onto the court.
He turned to hand it to a ball girl as boos reverberated around Centre Court with the umpire issuing instructions to the crowd to respect the players as they readied to serve. She said:"Ladies and Gentlemen, out of respect to our players, please do not pop the Champagne cork just as a player is about to serve."
It isn't the first time an umpire has had to calm the crowd due to champagne this tournament. Earlier in the fortnight on one of the outside courts a player was about to serve before they heard some fizz being popped.
It also happened during a one of Emma Raducanu's outings. Luckily for the former US Open champion she was sitting on her chair during a changeover. Any individual drinking champagne will have spent a pretty penny with it costing just over £100 to purchase one this year.

Darwin Nunez next club odds slashed as team makes move for Liverpool striker

The bookmakers expect Darwin Nunez to make a summer move to Saudi Arabia, with Al Hilal making a move in their pursuit of the Liverpool striker. The Uruguayan is available for transfer as the Reds significantly revamp their forward line after winning the Premier League title. Hugo Ekitike has arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt and Florian Wirtz has been brought in from Bayer Leverkusen, while Liverpool continue to be linked with the likes of Newcastle's Alexander Isak and Real Madrid's Rodrygo. Luis Diaz has left for Bayern Munich and of course the club lost Diogo Jota in tragic circumstances due to his shocking death last month. Nunez has been linked with a move away from Anfield all summer after a disappointing season on a personal level, despite the team's success under Arne Slot. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link we'll send you so we can get football news tailored to you. The 26-year-old scored just five Premier League goals in 30 appearances, netting seven times in 47 outings across all competitions. The Reds are happy to let him go, but want a significant return on the initial £64m they paid Benfica for him in 2022. Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal have made a move, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reporting that they have 'presented their project and plan to Darwin Nunez in recent days.' A deal is far from done, with negotiations still to take place between the clubs and the player. While a number of players have been tempted to the Saudi Pro League, plenty more have also decided they would prefer to continue their career in Europe, turning down the vast riches on offer in Saudi Arabia. 4/5 Any Saudi Arabian team3/1 AC Milan4/1 Liverpool9/1 Juventus 10/1 Newcastle Odds courtesy of bet365 Nunez may well have an option to make a big move within Europe, with AC Milan also interested in signing him this summer. Italian transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the Uruguayan is AC Milan's first choice as they look for a new striker this summer and they have held talks with him already. The Serie A side will not be able to compete with Al Hilal on a transfer fee or wages, but will hope to appeal to Nunez by offering a higher level of competition. There is yet to be a bid from any side, with Napoli and Juventus also linked with a move for him this summer but their interest seemingly fading. It was a difficult season for the striker under Slot, with the manager criticising his work rate in February after back-to-back performances that disappointed the Dutchman. More Trending 'I helped him by saying you can miss a chance,' Slot told a press conference in February after Nunez made substitute appearances against Wolves and Aston Villa, missing a glaring opportunity in the latter. 'I wasn't only hard on him. But for the second time in a row I wasn't happy with his work effort, against Wolves and against Villa. 'I can't accept if a player doesn't give everything. That is clear. I can accept it once, but twice was a bit too much. That's why I addressed it. 'If you miss a chance, you need to be fighting for the team. I'm not saying he didn't do that at all, but it wasn't the usual Darwin, the one that is loved by the fans. That is mainly because he always works so hard.' Kelly Brook, 45, branded 'a natural beauty' as she shows off curves in white bikini

Former Page Three girl Kelly Brook has shared a series of photos from her holiday in Italy, after the 45-year-old retired from the modelling industry, saying she had enough of the 'male gaze' Former glamour model Kelly Brook has shown off her curves in white bikini photos as fans have praised her "natural beauty". The 45-year-old looked incredible as she sunned herself on holiday in Italy with her husband, model Jeremy Parisi. ‌ Sharing the series of snaps on Instagram, the Heart Radio host beamed as she posed against a railing, captioning her post: "Italian Summers !!! Made the Hubby take some pictures of me." ‌ Fans flooded the comments with praise for the retired model, who was hailed a "role model" for sharing the natural photos. One of her followers commented: "Thank you for showing girls what a normal (gorgeous) woman looks like. They're constantly looking at 'love island' girls!" It comes after Cat Deeley found moving back to the UK 'really hard' before split from Patrick Kielty. ‌ Another of Kelly's followers shared: "You are absolutely stunning and so natural It's also very refreshing Kelly." A third penned: "Been an absolute natural beauty from the beginning! never change! X" Others echoed their sentiments, writing: "How bloody refreshing," while another added: "This should be the role model for young girls out there. You are absolutely stunning." ‌ A sixth fan gushed: "Does this woman never age? From many years ago to now I have admired her. Not only is she a natural beauty and all woman she has the most wonderful sense of humour absolutely hilarious on times on the radio. Her husband struck gold when he married her. Stunning!!!" Kelly, who appeared on Celebrity Race Across the World with her husband Jeremy, told the Sun previously that she had enough of modelling. She told the paper: "It's very hard having been a bikini model all through my 20s and then you hit 30 and they still want me to do calendars. ‌ "I'm just not there for the male gaze any more. I'm married and I'm very happy being in my 40s." She also revealed earlier this year to the Mirror that she made the conscious decision to live a child-free lifestyle, thanks to some wise words from a family member. In the candid chat, she explained: "When I asked my grandma if she regretted anything in life, because that's what you ask octogenarians, she said - very honestly - that her biggest regret was having children." Kelly added: 'I wasn't expecting it, but she definitely said it! I think she felt that having children had taken up a lot of her life. I thought, 'What an absolutely honest, incredible answer,' and I think I needed to hear it. I was about 36 at the time and thinking, 'God, am I ever going to have children? If so, maybe I should just get on with it now?' Then I thought, 'Actually, I don't think I want them,' and hearing that somebody had regrets, and that I might not regret not having children, made me feel really happy about my choice." ‌ The media personality, who has been married to husband Jeremy for two years this month, said she's happy being a "dog mum", and likes having her freedom. She added: "As someone who's probably not going to have children, it's hard to think about regrets now, because what am I going to regret? "That I sold my house in LA to move to the UK? Well, there's nothing stopping me from moving back to LA. If I regret something, I'll just go back and change it!'

Emma Raducanu crashes out in straight sets in Montreal

Raducanu had won both of their previous meetings, but rarely looked like extending that run as she held her serve just once in either set. Wimbledon finalist Anisimova came from 40-15 down to break Raducanu's serve in the second game of the match and, although the British number one broke back immediately, she was unable to fashion another break point in the contest. Anisimova broke again to make it 3-1 and added a third break to wrap up the set. Her dominance continued in the second set as Raducanu won just eight points on her own serve, avoiding the whitewash after losing the first five games before Anisimova served out for a place in the fourth round. She will face 10th seed Elina Svitolina or Anna Kalinskaya in the last 16. Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek needed little more than an hour to complete a 6-2 6-2 victory over Germany's Eva Lys, but Jessica Pegula's bid for a third straight Montreal title was ended by world number 386 Anastasija Sevastova. The Latvian, a former world number 11 who has had lengthy spells out on maternity leave and with a torn ACL, beat the third seed 3-6 6-4 6-1.
