City venue says 'thank you for everything' in 'heartbreaking' post

Yahoo08-04-2025
A city centre food vendor has delivered some 'heartbreaking' news as it announced its closure. The Baltic Market took to social media to announce that Richie's would be leaving the food court very soon.
Richie's has been at the Baltic Triangle premises for a number of years now. It serves everything from cheeseburgers and chicken nuggets to loaded fries and hotdogs.
However, this will no longer be the case from next week as the company said it is ready for a 'new chapter'.

Announcing the news on Instagram, the Baltic Market wrote: 'We've got some huge, and potentially heartbreaking, news. Richie's will be leaving us next week.
'After an unforgettable run with our very own concept, it's time to pass the torch. We're making way for a brand-new trader to join us and serve up some next-level scran that we know will blow you away.
'We've been beyond lucky to have such a creative, passionate team behind Richie's! Who remembers the Cheetos mozzarella stick? Iconic
'While Richie may return in one form or another in the future, we're closing the burger chapter and bringing you something completely fresh. Massive love to every team member, past and present. You're all absolute legends.'
Worker Anthony Ricardo previously told the ECHO that even though the Baltic Market can be 'crazy', the venue's atmosphere made it all 'worthwhile'.
He said: 'It's boss. Baltic Market is one big family and like being with all your mates in one place on the daily.'
It comes just weeks after The Baltic Market announced it would be opening a new food hall miles away from Merseyside. Named St Paul's Market and located in Birmingham, the company hopes it will be 'the best in the UK.'
It is a joint venture with Independent Birmingham, and street food restaurant Buddha Belly also being involved.
The upcoming venue occupies a 10,000-square-foot warehouse on Birmingham's Mary Anne Street, just off Saint Paul's Square in the Jewellery Quarter. The team has signed a 15 year lease, with the opening more than 11 years in the making.

Trump blasts Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon over bank's tariffs warning: ‘Focus on being a DJ'

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said Goldman Sachs boss David Solomon should go back to 'being a DJ' and teed off on the investment bank after it warned that US consumers will soon pay the brunt of tariff-related price hikes. Trump fumed over a revised analysis released Monday by Goldman's chief economist Jan Hatzius forecasting that households will soon cover 64% of tariff costs — after absorbing 22% through June. 'I think David should go out and get himself a new economist, or maybe he ought to just focus on being a DJ, and not running a financial institution,' Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. 3 Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon performs as DJ D-Sol at a music event. David Solomon/Instagram The slap at Solomon referred to the Wall Street titan's side gig as DJ D-Sol, which landed him in hot water with insiders at the bank as profits and morale declined after the pandemic. Trump went on to blast Goldman for being wrong about its predictions earlier this year that the economy could fall into a recession because of tariffs. Last month, the bank lowered the risk level of a recession to 30% from the 60% it had forecast following the 'Liberation Day' rollout in April. 'David Solomon and Goldman Sachs refuse to give credit where credit is due,' Trump wrote. 'They made a bad prediction a long time ago on both the Market repercussion and the Tariffs themselves, and they were wrong, just like they are wrong about so much else.' Goldman declined to comment. 3 Trump accused Solomon of refusing to acknowledge the benefits of his tariffs during a Truth Social post. Trump claimed the duties have poured 'trillions of dollars' into US coffers — a figure contradicted by Treasury Department data released last month that showed customs duties generated from April to June were $64 billion. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has projected the tariffs will bring in about $300 billion by the end of the year. Inflation held steady in July, with the annual consumer price index at 2.7%, according to data released Tuesday. Core inflation, which strips out food and energy, climbed to 3.1% in July, from 2.9% the previous month. Food prices rose 2.9% year-over-year, used car prices jumped 4.8% and gasoline fell 9.5%, as tariffs earlier this year added some upward pressure on core prices.

Threads now has more than 400 million monthly active users

Just two years since its launch as a competitor to Twitter (now X), Meta's Threads has topped 400 million monthly active users (MAUs), Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced on Tuesday. 'As of a few weeks ago we there are more than 400 million people active on Threads every month,' Mosseri wrote in a Threads post. 'It's been quite the ride over the last two years. This started as a zany idea to compete with Twitter, and has evolved into a meaningful platform that fosters the open exchange of perspectives. I'm grateful to all of you for making this place what it is today. There's so much work to do from our side, more to come.' The new milestone means that Threads was able to add 50 million monthly users in the past quarter, as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced in the last week of April that the platform had reached more than 350 million monthly active users. X, meanwhile, has north of 600 million monthly active users, according to previous statements made by its former CEO, Linda Yaccarino. Recent data from market intelligence provider Similarweb showed that Threads is nearing X's daily app users on mobile devices. In June 2025, Threads' mobile app for iOS and Android saw 115.1 million daily active users, marking a 127.8% increase compared to the previous year. On the other hand, X reached 132 million daily active users, reflecting a 15.2% year-over-year decline. However, Similarweb found that X's worldwide daily web visits are well ahead of Threads, as the Elon Musk-owned social network saw 145.8 million average daily web visits worldwide in June, while Threads had just 6.9 million. Threads' growth comes as the platform has shipped numerous new features over the past year, including DMs, fediverse integrations, custom feeds, AI enhancements, and more.
