Michael Dunlop has everything he needs to continue leading way, insists Phillip McCallen

Dunlop ended a nine-year wait for victory at the Triangle road race on Thursday, clinching a Supersport and Superstock double.
The Ballymoney man then added a Superbike success on Saturday to complete a terrific treble, giving him eight career wins at Ireland's premier motorcycle race.
It was Dunlop's first Superbike success around the 8.9-mile course since 2016 when he triumphed on a Hawk Racing BMW.
Now riding BMW machinery for the first time since the Armoy Race of Legends national meeting in 2021, Dunlop put himself back on the top step on Saturday, much to the delight of his thousands of sun-drenched fans.
It has been an impressive start to 2025 for Dunlop, who was a double winner at the Cookstown 100 in April in the Supersport and Superbike classes as he warmed up for the major road races.
Dunlop will now be looking ahead to the Isle of Man TT where he became the most successful rider in history at the legendary event in 2024, winning four times to set a new benchmark of 29 victories.
He has changed his stable of machinery for 2025, switching from Honda to BMW for the Superbike and Superstock classes and changing from a Yamaha R6 to a Ducati Panigale V2 Supersport machine.
Dunlop is set to continue riding an Italian Paton in the Supertwin races at the TT where he won both races in the summer of 2024 plus both Supersport events to break his legendary uncle Joey's record of 26 wins around the infamous Mountain Course.
With long-time backers Stuart and Steve Hicken of Hawk Racing continuing to support Dunlop in 2025 and his close-knit MD Racing team behind him – headed by loyal sponsor and right-hand man Gary Ryan – McCallen says the road racing superstar is in his strongest position for years with the TT only weeks away.
'It's the team and the backup,' said McCallen, who is an 11-time TT winner.
'For the last few years, it's looked like he's had his bikes at the last minute or he's come here still building bikes and doing different things and he's not really ready.
'This year, he's been racing, he's done an endurance race (at Le Mans), he's done other races this year, and I know these are new bikes but the teams are really, really good.
'He's got the same teams as he's had for years and he's totally confident with those people because there is a big worry of 'who is working on my bikes and what are they doing with it'.
'So, he's happy with his teams and he knows he's got good bikes.
'That Ducati, apparently there is no higher-spec Ducati in Europe than that; his BMW Superbike, allegedly – and it looks like it – there's no higher-spec than that in the country as well.
'His production bike is definitely good and the Hawk boys, the team that he is so, so happy with, they have built him TT and North West-winning bikes, although more so at the TT.
'He's happy with them, and in my mind, if I had that Ducati, I'd be happy; if I had those BMWs with that spec, I'd be happy as well.
'I think that's all showing now, and lots of other years he hasn't had the miles he's wanted.
'He has come here (North West 200) with maybe a few race miles done, but this year, he has come mentally prepared, he's definitely physically prepared and he's mechanically prepared, so why would you not be happy?'
Carrickfergus rider Alastair Seeley was unable to achieve a milestone 30th win at the North West on his return to the event after a year's absence, however Dunlop is on the cusp of reaching that remarkable landmark at the TT.
On current form, it appears to be a matter of when, not if.

Mazda 3 vs Acura Integra: Surprisingly Comparable

You might be surprised how closely the Mazda 3 and Acura Integra compare when looking at the base models. Which is the best value? A fair battle all things considered Most of you know that Acura is the luxury/performance brand from Honda. Interesting bit of history: among the spinoff brands from Japan (Lexus, Infiniti, and Acura), Honda was the very first to establish Acura back in 1986. The others came along about three years later. What many don't know is that Mazda wanted a similar extension of their brand called Amati many years back. While that never materialized, the brand managed to move a bit upmarket. Now, many Mazda products are knocking on the door of higher-end Asian and European brands. At the same time, Acura is building more vehicles like the Integra and ADX that are tempting value-conscious consumers. 0:07 / 0:09 2025 Ford Maverick: 4 reasons to love it, 2 reasons to think twice Watch More Yes, both the Mazda 3 and the Acura Integra have hotter, more expensive versions. Mazda offers a turbocharged 250 horsepower powertrain, which comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD), while the Acura Integra Type S has a turbocharged 310 hp engine and an aggressive suspension setup, which is far more track-oriented. These models do not compete against each other, but the entry models truly do. Mazda 3 Sedan ($24,150) 2020 Mazda3 Sedan — Source: Mazda The 2025 Mazda 3 comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 191 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. It's paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, unless you get the top-of-the-line Mazda 3 front-drive hatchback, which has an optional 6-speed manual transmission. AWD is available, but only if you get the higher trims with the turbocharged engine. The non-turbo engine is rated at 27 mpg city and 37 mpg highway, but the hatchback (which has a $1,000+ premium) is slightly lower. Many find the exterior and interior design of the Mazda 3 to be top-notch. Mazda's KODO design is supposed to evoke a sense of motion and emotional stimulation. I will say that the minimalist design has a feeling of Italian and hints of German in the most positive way. It's striking, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. Still, it feels like a more expensive vehicle, inside and out. I would probably go with the $26,540 Mazda 3 2.5 S Preferred sedan as it comes with heated front seats, sliding glass moonroof, nicer wheels, and more safety features, among other goodies. The AWD turbocharged Carbon S Turbo (which is the entry point for the AWD turbo) starts at $32,300. Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. The standard 10.25-inch infotainment screen takes time to get used to, as it's mainly controlled by the use of a dial located south of the gear lever. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and even the base model's six-speaker sound system provides good audio. Seating materials are excellent, with a great deal of care being put into all of the components' feel and location. If there is any weak point to the Mazda 3's interior design, it's down to rear space. Passenger space in the back seat is a bit tight, and the cargo space in the sedan is 13.2 cubic feet, which is adequate. The hatchback has a maximum of just over 47 cu-ft of cargo space, which is on the lower side for the class. Acura Integra ($33,000) 2023 Acura Integra The 2025 Acura Integra comes with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 200 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque. It's connected to a continuously variable transmission (CVT), unless you get the A-Spec w/Technology 6MT, which (obviously) comes with a manual transmission. There is no AWD option, so all Integras come with front-wheel drive. Those who desire AWD should probably look at the Acura ADX, as it's somewhat based on the Integra. The EPA-estimated fuel economy for the Integra is 30 mpg city and 37 mpg highway. The Integra A-Spec with Technology Package, with the manual transmission, is rated at 26 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. Many feel that the Acura Integra's exterior design is a bit polarizing. The nose is all Acura, but the rear might look a bit soft for some. Once you step up to the $52,900 Type S, the entire design becomes hard and street-aggressive. Still, that's a completely different animal, and I would aim for the $38,000 A-Spec w/Technology 6MT if you like to row your own gears. This gives you great bang for the buck while still providing a pleasant daily commute. Offering standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the Integra offers a standard 7-inch digital infotainment touchscreen, which is definitely small. The optional 9-inch touchscreen comes with the Technology Package, and it's far better. At least all models come standard with a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster. The legroom in the back seating area is far more generous than the Mazda's, while the cargo area measures 24.3 cu-ft behind the rear seats. The interior of the Acura Integra is nicer than the Honda it's based on, but lacks the sophistication of the Mazda's design. Driving both head-to-head If you drive the $30,850 Mazda 3 Hatchback 6-speed manual directly against the Acura Integra A-Spec w/Technology 6MT, you might be surprised how they both behave. The Acura costs about $8,000 more, yet it doesn't feel like it should be that much more expensive. It is more athletic, and the engine tuning is more aggressive, but it feels no more sophisticated than the Mazda. In fact, the Mazda 3 has a smoother ride and a quieter interior. On the other hand, the Acura is much more engaging to drive, especially if you're looking for fun. It's quicker, and its 0 to 60 mph time of about 7 seconds is nearly 1/2 a second faster than the Mazda 3 manual. The Acura's adaptive dampers enhance handling and solidify the ride, something that can't be said for the Mazda. Steering response in both cars is at the top of their class, but the Acura feels more dialed in, as if it's communicating better. Final thoughts This is a tough choice. The Acura is a ton of fun to drive, and it offers lots of usable space along with a thrifty and eager engine. On the other hand, the Mazda is more luxurious, providing a more sophisticated experience, and it's less expensive. Both are outstanding, and it makes me wonder where Mazda would be if they had actually gone ahead with building their own luxury/performance brand decades ago.

Rolls-Royce Wants to Focus on Exclusivity and Brand Heritage Over Production Numbers

Instead, it is investing more on a money-making program that other luxury automakers are doubling down on. Rolls-Royce isn't like everyone else Growing sales numbers and volume are the name of the game for some of the most popular automakers like Toyota, Volkswagen, and Ford, but lately, even some of the most venerable names making premium cars have been ramping up their output. In recent years, luxury powerhouses like BMW and Mercedes, and even exotic brands like Lamborghini, have grown their lineups to ramp up their annual sales with a broad stream of eager, new customers seeking a ride on the wave of prestige of their badge. However, one of the most illustrious luxury car brands, Rolls-Royce, is bucking the trend. 0:02 / 0:09 Walmart is selling a 'heavy duty' $89 step ladder for $48, and shoppers say it's 'sturdy and secure' Watch More Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II Black Badge — Source: Rolls-Royce Exclusivity is the name of the game In a recent interview with American broadcaster ABC, the newly appointed president of Rolls-Royce North America, Jon Colbeth, said that the phenomenon of luxury automakers chasing volumes is a 'race to the bottom,' that puts their brand's image in jeopardy. 'There are plenty of manufacturers with very expensive cars out there with full showrooms right now,' Colbeth said. 'We want to invest in the brand, we want to continue investing in the brand, but we want to grow it with bespoke.' In lieu of chasing volume, Rolls sees its Bespoke service as a new driver of its business. By ordering a bespoke car from Rolls-Royce, deep-pocketed clients forgo the showroom in favor of 'Private Offices,' where they can commission unique vehicles with personalized paint colors, special materials, and other 'wishes' to be granted for the right price. In his words, Colbeth explained that 'If somebody is going to buy a new Rolls-Royce, they want to make sure it's their Rolls-Royce. The only way to do that is to personalize it.' Source: Rolls-Royce Rolls is investing $370 million to expand its plant in Goodwood, England, to aid the program. In a statement released during its announcement in May 2024, CEO Chris Brownridge revealed that the upgrades will help the company with bottlenecks in the current production process. For instance, upgrades to the paint shop will help it apply two-tone color schemes on more cars. Despite this, Rolls and Colbeth have no intention of increasing production numbers or even promoting their cars with celebrity faces. They note that the 'brand speaks for itself,' and clients don't buy Rolls-Royces 'because a celebrity is driving it.' You may unsubscribe from email communication at anytime. 'We don't want to be the car for everybody,' Colbeth told ABC. 'It's not what we're about. We're investing $370 million in our [U.K.] plant extension without making more vehicles. What brand does that? Our focus is adding bespoke capacity and allowing each commission to be more special for clients.' Rolls-Royce Phantom — Source: Rolls-Royce Although the brand managed to move 5,712 vehicles last year amid the introduction of new models like the Spectre EV and an updated Cullinan SUV, Colbeth maintains that no matter which vehicles they choose, new clients join the Rolls-Royce 'family and everything that comes along with it.' 'We need to grow the future of Rolls-Royce. We've been around for 120 years … and we're going to be around for a long time. We're stewards of the brands. Our responsibility is to cherish it.' Final thoughts Personalization and luxury goods go hand-in-hand. Parisian fashion ateliers Louis Vuitton and Goyard offer hand-painted monograms on their items, and shirtmakers from Brooks Brothers to Eton offer their customers the opportunity to add their initials to their white shirts in various fonts and colored threads. Going back to cars, Rolls-Royce is not alone in making boatloads of money from programs similar to its bespoke program. Ferrari has the Tailor Made and Atelier programs, Porsche has Sunderwunsch ('special wishes'), and even Maserati has an in-house customization program called the 'Officine Fuoriserie Maserati,' or 'Office Out of Series Maserati.' In 2024, Ferrari sold just 13,752 vehicles but grossed around €1.3 billion ($1.35 billion) from personalization last year, accounting for about a fifth of overall revenues at the prancing horse. Taste may be subjective, but the freedom that ultra-luxury automakers let clients customize their vehicles proves there is money to be made. About the Author James Ochoa View Profile

BMW's Controversial XM SUV Just Got Better For 2026

BMW's most powerful roadcar yet is now only available as such. This should probably have been the case from the start. Why the XM Label Is Now BMW's Only XM Trim for 2026 The XM was announced as the first car exclusively developed by the famed BMW M division, and as such, it was given more power than any road car ever made in Munich, but it also had an identity crisis. On the one hand, 738 horsepower was more than enough for a halo car in the BMW lineup, but on the other, the availability of lesser trims diluted the impact of the badge. It was like offering a BMW M3 trim with two-thirds of the power alongside the real deal. But BMW is learning from its ultra-luxury rivals like the Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX. For 2026, the XM is only available in range-topping Label form, and it should be better than ever. Finally, BMW M's standalone M car stands alone. New Exterior and Interior Options for the 2026 XM When human beings start something new, many will change their hairstyle, wardrobe, and shoes to signify their evolution, and the same applies to an improved XM. The new wardrobe includes optional BMW Individual Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic paint and 23-inch Style 1096 M wheels in a new Jet Black finish, which we think improves the design immensely and removes visual weight over 2025's silver wheels. BMW has also given the vehicle a new welcome light animation when the car is unlocked, and inside, three new BMW Individual interior schemes are available: Night Blue Full Merino Leather with Vintage Coffee accents, Black Full Merino Leather with Vintage Coffee accents, and Silverstone Extended Merino Leather with Black accents. The 2025 XM was available with color schemes that a colorblind enthusiast of 1970s interior home decor might appreciate, but that's now been fixed, with the rear seat comfort cushions matching the color of the seat surface as standard for all Individual Merino Leather upholstery options. The rooflining is still a magical place to look, though, with a prismatic ambient lighting design giving the feel of a high-end nightclub. Same Powerful Plug-In Hybrid, Now With Faster Charging Source: BMW The hybridized twin-turbo V8 still develops 738 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque, enabling 0-60 mph in just 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph (175 mph with the option M Driver's Package). That's plenty for a BMW of any description. Although the 2025 Urus SE, which is also a plug-in hybrid, delivers 789 ponies, the new DBX S only tops out at 717 ponies, so the XM is in the mix. Looking deeper beneath the skin, BMW hasn't mentioned any changes to the stiff suspension; the one thing BMW has fiddled with for 2026 won't be evident from behind the wheel: the charging unit now enables AC recharging at speeds of up to 11 kW (up from 7.4 kW for 2025). Source: BMW Official Debut and Release Timing The new XM Label will be publicly unveiled on Saturday, June 14, at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where the BMW M Hybrid V8 WEC racecar will be competing. Pricing for the 2026 XM will follow closer to the start of production, which is scheduled for August at BMW's Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina. With BMW resorting to heavy discounts to try to sell the existing XM, it remains to be seen how these changes will affect the SUV's popularity, but the decision to choose a single path to follow should be a step in the right direction. Is it now worthy of being the first standalone M car since the iconic M1? Perhaps that's a discussion for after we've driven it… Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. Research and compare vehicles, too.
