Courtois Out of Belgian Squad for World Cup Qualifiers
The player's club Real Madrid said on Sunday that he had been diagnosed with sacroiliitis -- inflammation of one or both sacroiliac joints in the area where the lower back and pelvis meet.
"The medical staff of Real Madrid and the Royal Belgian Football Association have discussed Thibaut Courtois' back problems intensively in the past period," the Belgian association added in a statement.
"Both medical staffs have come to the conclusion that the goalkeeper is not fit for the upcoming internationals."
The injury may also jeopardize Courtois' chances of playing at the Club World Cup in the United States, where Real Madrid open their campaign in Miami on June 18 against Al Hilal from Saudi Arabia.
Uncapped Nordin Jackers from Club Brugge will replace Courtois in the Belgian squad for the matches against North Macedonia in Skopje on Friday and at home to Wales next Monday.
Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels is expected to take Courtois' place in goal for the two Group J fixtures.

But we believe that is not right,' AIAC vice president Giancarlo Camolese said. The Azzurri also played Israel in Udine last October in a Nations League match that saw protests before and during the game and intense security measures, including snipers on the roof of the stadium. Since then the situation has continued to deteriorate with the Palestinian death toll from the 22-month war passing 62,000 earlier this month. 'The world is in flames. Many people like the Palestinians are suffering,' AIAC vice president Francesco Perondi said. 'Indifference is unacceptable.'

Belgian princess to resume Harvard studies after Trump move to ban foreign students
Princess Elisabeth, 23-year-old heir to the Belgian throne, will be able to continue her studies at Harvard University, her spokespeople said, after she was caught up in a US government move to bar the entry of foreign students to study there. 'I can confirm that, for now, all the conditions seem to be in place for the princess to continue her studies at Harvard,' the Belgian Royal Palace's communication director Xavier Baert said on Tuesday, confirming a newspaper report. In May, when US President Donald Trump's administration announced the ban, the Royal Palace voiced concern that Princess Elisabeth, being a Belgian national, might be unable to continue her studies at Harvard. But in June, a federal judge blocked the administration from implementing the proclamation Trump signed that sought to bar foreign nationals from entering the US to study at Harvard.
