Havlicek Stole the Pod 1: A new era for the Boston Celtics, and us
The Boston Celtics are on the precipice of a new era. Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens just sat down with the media for the first time since Boston was defeated by the New York Knicks in their 2025 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals second round series that saw Jayson Tatum go down in Game 4 with a torn Achilles, Jaylen Brown playing on a partially torn meniscus, Kristaps Porzingis reduced to a shell of himself due to illness among other issues plaguing the roster.
What does the future hold for the Celtics in light of their looming historic payroll and tax bill, in light of all the above? Which players are likely on the move, and who will still be in green and white when the dust settles? Could a major rebuild be about to unfold in Boston?
The hosts of the new "Havlicek Stole the Pod" show took a close look at the future at the start of their own rebuild, rising from the ashes of prior iterations to start anew. Check it out below (and please forgive any technical issues as we navigate a new production model).

Duke Blue Devils Suffer Major Coaching Loss on Saturday
Duke Blue Devils Suffer Major Coaching Loss on Saturday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Duke Blue Devils have been consistently competing for national titles and are known as one of the best college basketball programs in the country. Advertisement Last season, Duke boasted of one of the best teams in the nation, starring freshmen Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel and Khaman Maluach. The trio led Duke to the Final Four, where they eventually lost to Houston and finished the season with a 35-4 record. After a tremendous year for the Blue Devils, head coach Jon Scheyer is back at the whiteboard, working to find a way to return to the promise land. He will be working with a brand new team next season, given the departure of those three freshmen and other stars such as Tyrese Proctor and Sion James. Scheyer and the Blue Devils will also be looking for a replacement for Will Stephens, the team's Executive Director of Sports Performance. On Saturday, Stephens retired from the Duke Blue Devils. "Coach Will is incredibly impactful for our program and everything that he did for us all year long," Flagg said. "He always brought the energy, always got us better, and always had us ready and excited to come into the gym every day." "Coach Will had a big impact on my career," Tatum said. "He really helped my mindset. He really helped me transform my body. He got our whole team ready mentally and physically at the highest level." Kevin Millar Defends Red Sox Manager Alex Cora Amid 'Ridiculous' Hot Seat Talk
Kevin Millar Defends Red Sox Manager Alex Cora Amid 'Ridiculous' Hot Seat Talk originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After starting 30-34, the Boston Red Sox have seen their manager, Alex Cora, get put on the hot seat. Cora has been the manager of the Red Sox since 2021, having managed the team in 2018 and 2019 before taking 2020 off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Advertisement He helped lead the Red Sox to the 2018 World Series championship, but now faces questions over his future with the team. On episode 221 of the Play Tessie podcast, fan favorite Red Sox player Kevin Millar defended Cora amid the calls for his firing. "Alex Cora getting heat is ridiculous," Millar said. "He's a dude. Guys love playing for him. He just signed an extension. It's (on) us. If I hand an 0-2 curveball and give up a three-run home run, that's not on Alex Cora." Millar and Cora were teammates with the Red Sox in 2005, the year after Millar helped the Red Sox win the 2004 World Series. It's no surprise that Millar defends Cora, as the two, even in just one year together, built a strong connection. Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora before the game against the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Stringer-Imagn Images The Red Sox are struggling as a team, losing eight of their last 11 games. Sitting 9.5 games behind the New York Yankees for the American League East lead and four games out of a wild-card spot, the Red Sox need things to turn around, and fast. Advertisement But it's not solely on Cora to turn things around. "Players gotta step up," Millar said. "Players gotta be better, we gotta play better." Cora has been at the forefront of the blame for the Red Sox's recent issues. But Millar's defense of Cora points to the players as the ones to blame for the issues at the beginning of the year. Whether it's poor pitching, which the Red Sox have had plenty of, or hitting not working in key moments, those stem from the players, not Cora. "But Alex Cora is not an issue," said Millar. "It drives me crazy." Cora's seat may still be hot, but a fan favorite Red Sox player has his back. While Cora may still get fired, for now, Cora will try to help the Red Sox out of the hole they dug themselves into at to beginning of the year. Red Sox Get Encouraging Update on $120 Million Free Agent Signing
Red Sox Get Encouraging Update on $120 Million Free Agent Signing originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Boston Red Sox may be getting the spark they desperately need, with star third baseman Alex Bregman making encouraging progress in his recovery from a right quad strain. Advertisement Bregman, who landed on the 10-day injured list on May 24, has begun a running progression and is currently traveling with the team for their series against the New York Yankees. Though the injury was initially described by manager Alex Cora as 'significant' and similar to the quad strain that sidelined Bregman for over two months in 2021, signs point to a faster recovery this time around. Tim Heitman-Imagn Images 'If it's up to him, he'd be playing tonight,' Cora joked ahead of Friday's series opener in the Bronx. 'He's locked in. He has his date on his mind. We just have to keep working. Obviously, we don't want to rush, and we have to be very diligent with it. But he's feeling great.' Cora admitted the rehab process has gone better than expected, though he declined to reveal a target return date for Bregman. The three-time All-Star was playing like a true centerpiece before the injury, slashing .299/.385/.553 with 11 home runs, 17 doubles, and 35 RBIs across 51 games. His .938 OPS led Boston at the time of his injury. Bregman signed a three-year, $120 million contract with Boston this offseason and had been a stabilizing force both offensively and defensively at third base. Advertisement His absence has been felt, with the Red Sox going 3-7 in their last 10 games and falling to fourth place in the American League East. They now trail the division-leading Yankees by 9.5 games but sit just 4.5 games out of a Wild Card spot.
