Bernd Leno is Fulham's shootout hero as Manchester United exit FA Cup

The final spot-kick score was 4-3 to the visitors who, marginally, deserved their passage, though this was a slog through 120 minutes of meagre fare that was no advertisement for the world's oldest knockout competition.
Two years ago Lindelöf was United's hero, with his spot-kick, after semi-final extra time against Brighton, taking Erik ten Hag's side to the showpiece, which they lost 2-1 to Manchester City.
In 2022-23 the Dutchman had already guided United to the Carabao Cup and followed that with last season's triumph in this competition. But, if Ruben Amorim is to emulate his predecessor with a trophy in a first campaign, then it will have to be in the Europa League, in which he takes his beleaguered team to Real Sociedad for Thursday's last-16 opening leg.
Fulham's goalkeeper Bernd Leno saved both Lindelöf's and Zirkzee's penalties and Marco Silva's side now stand a quarter-final and semi-final away from a Wembley tilt at a first major piece of silverware.
United were the same old sorry tale: a liability at the back and toothless in the final third.
Fulham had taken the lead in first-half stoppage time when Calvin Bassey headed in from close range after Rodrigo Muniz had flicked on a corner, but Bruno Fernandes equalised with a superb shot from the edge of the area in the 71st minute.

Crystal Palace, Player of the Match winner Chris Richards 'embraced a tough game' in draw at Chelsea
USMNT center back Chris Richards and his Premier League club Crystal Palace are off to a strong start to this season, adding to last week's Community Shield triumph with a 0-0 draw at Chelsea on Sunday. Richards was named Player of the Match in the draw, nothing new for one of the Eagles' stars during last season's drive to the FA Cup. The 25-year-old is set for a heavy workload this season as Palace compete in the Conference League and may still have to bed in a new back if Marc Guehi skips town before the end of the transfer window. RECAP, HIGHLIGHTS — Chelsea 0-0 Crystal Palace But Richards says manager Oliver Glasner has imparted grit and focus into this side, and it's paying dividens around Selhurst Park. 'We try to block out the outside noise and put in good performances,' Richards said before accepting his POTM award. 'I think that's what we did today. Now we have Europe on Thursday and hopefully we can put in a good performance.' Europe has been a bit of a potential distraction, as Palace have been waiting to see whether they'd get the Europa League berth provided by winning the FA Cup or if they'd be dropped to the Conference League following a contentious summer drama involving the Eagles, Nottingham Forest, UEFA, and the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Chelsea provided further reason to focus on Week 1, as the Club World Cup champs would provide just as stiff a test as Liverpool delivered in the Community Shield. 'One thing we talked about was embracing a tough game, embracing the toughness Chelsea was going to bring,' Richards said. 'It wasn't perfect but as long as we could complete a clean sheet it would be good.' Richards said the Eagles will count a draw as a good start to the season, and they've already got that preseason silverware in their pocket. Now they turn their attention to Thursday against Norwegian side Fredrikstad in a Conference League playoff game. Then? A combustible affair with Forest on Sunday. Palace will surely be up for it.

Still reacts after Ipswich: 'We're still unbeaten and we keep moving forward'
SAINTS manager Will Still praised his side for "digging in" as they remain unbeaten following a 1-1 draw at promotion rivals Ipswich Town. Still has won four points from two Championship matches and secured qualification to the Carabao Cup second round to start his Saints tenure. Ipswich and Saints earned a point apiece as the battle of two of the relegated clubs from last season's Premier League ended level at Portman Road. Taylor Harwood-Bellis' own goal after four minutes gave the Tractor Boys an early advantage, but youngster Jay Robinson equalised for the visitors. Speaking after the match, manager Still said: "If you can't win that sort of game, it's important not to lose it, and we've done that. "The start to the game was frustrating because we knew the intensity around the place, and we shot ourselves in the foot by gifting them that first goal. "After that, the first-half performance was really, really good. We reacted well to what could have been a really tricky situation and scored a good goal. "On the whole, the first half was the sort of performance that we want to see, the way that this team wants to go and the way we want to play. "The second half was more scrappy and not the best game, but you expect that coming to grounds like this, it's difficult, and they build pressure up. "We dug in when we had to, so that's a positive thing. I think the draw was probably a fair result and a logical one. We take a point, we're still unbeaten. "We keep moving and look forward to it. The players themselves have said, if that had happened four months ago, we probably would have crumbled. "We haven't done. Obviously, we've gone behind in the two games that we've played, which is frustrating. We can do better on the goals we've conceded. "But at least we've put one foot in the right direction of how we react to that and how we look forward and move on from difficult situations. "We've shown a bit of grit, we've shown a bit of determination and character and we've got back into the game. Now we need to be hypercritical. "We can be more clinical in both boxes and more demanding of ourselves, but it's two games in and we've won in the cup, we've got the next round. "A lot of clubs have been knocked out. We're still unbeaten and we need to build on the first half and the positives that we can take from the game."
