Influencer Ethan Guo, 19, speaks out after his alleged detainment in Antarctica, following accusations he landed on Chilean territory without permission
Guo, who aims to raise $1 million for cancer research, was arrested on June 28 and later agreed to donate $30,000 to a local charity and avoid Chilean territory for three years
Despite reports he is allowed to leave, Guo claims he remains stuck in Antarctica, sharing his story in a statement obtained by PEOPLE on Aug. 14
Influencer Ethan Guo is speaking out following his alleged detainment after being accused of landing on Chilean territory in Antarctica without permission.
PEOPLE previously reported that Guo, 19, began his journey at Genève Aéroport in 2024 "to become the first person in history to fly solo to all seven continents in a small aircraft. The influencer also plans to raise $1 million for cancer research, per his website.
However, Guo was arrested on June 28 by authorities and accused of landing in Antarctica without permission and submitting a false flight plan.
He was granted permission to leave Antarctica six weeks after the arrest. This came after he agreed to donate $30,000 to a children's cancer foundation within 30 days and not to reenter Chilean territory for three years, PEOPLE reported earlier this month.
In a statement to PEOPLE obtained on Thursday, Aug. 14, the pilot claimed that he's been unable to leave Antarctica.

"I've maintained from the very beginning that I am innocent, so I'm grateful to finally have that officially recognized," he said. "This process has been lengthy, and I believe it could have been resolved much sooner had all evidence been considered from the start."
"I'm still in Antarctica awaiting approval for my departure flight, and I sincerely hope that clearance will be granted soon so I, and my plane, can continue on my original mission of raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital," he concluded.
Guo also said he was "grateful" and "relieved" that the charges against him have been dropped, per ABC News.
He claimed that he's lost weight during his alleged detainment on the island, saying he felt like a "prisoner" and that authorities "won't let me leave," according to the outlet.
Guo's lawyer also told ABC News that "despite his exoneration, the Chilean government has not allowed him to fly his airworthy plane off the base."
PEOPLE has contacted the Chilean national law enforcement for comment.

The content creator also claimed that authorities had told him he couldn't leave due to a number of reasons, including poor weather, the plane not being in the right condition, there not being enough fuel and their belief that Guo is not skilled enough to fly.
"All four of those statements are objectively false," Guo told ABC News. "I have all the paperwork. I have insurance that even covers Antarctica. The plane has enough fuel, the plane is working. And I am a qualified pilot."
Guo also said he wouldn't be able to use a boat to depart due to its infrequent schedule. He added that his goal is to return to his journey.
"I want to be able to continue to fight against cancer and continue the mission," he said.
In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, Guo's representatives at Croft & Johnson LLP, wrote, "Despite his exoneration, the Chilean government has not allowed him to fly his airworthy plane off the base, resulting in his de facto confinement on the island for a month and a half."
'The stress of this ordeal has caused a severe deterioration in his health, including a 10kg weight loss and a diagnosis of pericarditis (inflammation of the heart's outer membrane)," the statement continued.
Guo also shared the letter on his Instagram Stories before writing in another post that he was 'free' and that the plane was 'in flying condition.'
'But I'm still stuck in Antarctica because they won't let me fly back,' he added.
He then linked a St. Jude Fundraising page that has so far raised $134,677 out of a $1,000,000 goal.

When the actor, 29, missed the makeup mogul's 28th birthday celebration earlier this week, fans began to wonder if they split. However, a source tells PEOPLE the couple is still together, citing their busy schedules for why they've been spending more time apart. 'They haven't seen each other for a few weeks only because Timothée's been filming Dune in a studio in Budapest, and Kylie's been working too,' the source says. 'She visited him in July." "But even though Kylie has a private jet, the flight is still 12 hours," the source adds. "She's a mom and she works as well. She has a lot of responsibilities in LA. Timothée's schedule is grueling, with very little downtime.' 'They're making it work though,' the insider continues. 'They FaceTime most days. They miss each other and are totally fine.' Another source adds that Chalamet's travels will continue as he prepares to head to Jordan and Abu Dhabi for the next leg of filming. The star marked another year around the sun on Aug. 10 with a chic dinner party thrown by her sister, Kendall Jenner. In a series of photos and videos posted to Instagram, Kylie shared a peek into the festivities, which included a painting session, pictures in a photo booth and several cakes. 'best birthday ever!!!!!!!' she wrote in the caption. 'I'm so grateful to my family and friends for making this weekend so special and full of love. 28 feels so good!!!!! and to my sister @kendalljenner thank you from the bottom of my heart for planning everything so perfectly. I'm so lucky to have you.' Meanwhile, Chalamet has been teasing his upcoming film Marty Supreme on his Instagram, which Kylie subtly supported by liking a clip of the trailer. The couple got to spend some quality time together earlier this summer when they vacationed in France. The weekend getaway came after Kylie attended Lauren Sánchez and Jeff Bezos' wedding in Italy. A source told PEOPLE at the time that the pair only had a few days together before Chalamet began filming Dune: Messiah in Prague. 'They hadn't seen each other since before the wedding, so Kylie was really excited when he arrived in France,' the insider revealed, noting that 'they're used to this kind of schedule.' The source also said that Jenner 'will fly to see him when she can,' and shared that 'they're still very happy and just making it work.' 'He knows the next few months will be exhausting, so he's taking a moment to just relax and reset,' the source added. Kylie and Chalamet have been romantically linked since April 2023. They stepped out for their first public appearance together at a Beyoncé concert five months later. Laura Loomer and the limits of posting everything

For all the power she wields with the White House's affairs, Laura Loomer does not have the traditional tools that her rivals in the MAGA influencer industrial complex have — the highest follower count, the most political power, the most internet platforms, etc. But the fact remains that she's the influencer responsible for getting Donald Trump to fire over a dozen members of his administration (and counting) for the hazily-defined crime of being disloyal to MAGA. This is something that none of her peers, individually, have been able to do. But to understand how she operates, look no further than Loomer's latest attempted power play, which, as always, involves a fair amount of self-humiliation (and some disgusting slander). Earlier this week, she leaked a private deposition that she'd given in a lawsuit wherein she explained, in her own words, why she's published some of the most outre takes and allegations against her 'enemies' on social media. The deposition was given as part of her defamation suit against HBO host Bill Maher, who claimed on a February 2025 show that Loomer was having a sexual affair with president Donald Trump. But you might have missed that context, since the social media chatter and headlines gravitated toward the sections of the deposition where Loomer was grilled about her most audacious posts: she claimed, among other things, that Sen. Lindsay Graham was secretly gay, that former Vice President Kamala Harris was a 'DEI skank', and her bitter MAGA rival Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) divorced her husband because of the 'Arby's in her pants' and was a 'political prostitute [who was] sucking McCarthy's dick all day.' Unsurprisingly, Loomer defended herself and her statements, both in the deposition ('I'm saying she literally—it's so ridiculous. I'm saying she literally put Arby's in her pants') and in public, after the deposition was reported on by Will Sommer at The Bulwark. 'I was asked about Lindsey during my deposition so I had to tell the truth. I was under oath,' Loomer tweeted — along with a screenshot of the section where she explained why she believed Graham was gay. HBO's lawyers immediately argued that Loomer was violating several laws by making the private deposition public, and the document was immediately re-sealed. Loomer, on the other hand, claimed that she was simply trying to showcase that her testimony 'went so well that the leftist law firm [representing HBO] wanted to SEAL my deposition.' Whether it went well is somewhat debatable, given the potential legal implications for Loomer violating a court order, as well as the incontrovertibility of Loomer saying some absolutely wild things in a legal deposition, and defending described the stunt as another example of 'Loomering,' the term that she uses to describe her internet bullying campaigns. At first glance, it's a tactic honed from her time working as a secret-camera sting operator at Project Veritas, which famously recorded members of the media and academics saying things that could be spun as anti-conservative and amoral. Loomer's stepped up her game, however, putting herself in front of the camera (and eventually the public eye) to make her fact that she constantly embarrasses herself only enhances the efficacy of 'Loomering': first, shame and embarrassment does not matter in the long term, so long as people are paying attention online. (She said as much the next day: 'I wake up everyday to another hit piece. It's because I am effective and it threatens a lot of people.') Second: the internet is forever, and even if a judge orders a deposition to be resealed, gawkers will save copies, screenshot the juicy bits, and publish them for posterity. Loomer might have been recorded reading her own tweets out loud and forced to explain the gross bits, but she has also gotten several White House administration officials it remains to be seen whether her influence extends beyond Trump's daily capriciousness, Loomer's unnerving gift for being an internet bully remains effective as long as she has allies in the administration, who leak her the insider info she publicly uses to humiliate others. (As she said to HBO's lawyers, her friends in the White House told her that Graham was gay.) And as long as the storm she creates can grab Trump's attention, he will most likely keep picking up her from this author will be added to your daily email digest and your homepage feed. Charity rowers MP mistook for migrants welcome blunder as it helped boost donations

A team of charity rowers that were mistaken for migrants by an MP have welcomed the blunder as it has helped to boost donations for their fundraiser. The ROW4MND crew arrived at the Forth Bridge near Edinburgh on Friday, marking the end of the first leg of their bid to circumnavigate Britain. Since departing from Land's End in Cornwall on 25 July, the rowers have covered approximately 900 miles and burned some 450,000 calories, while battling sleep deprivation and physical exhaustion. The have also faced a number of unexpected obstacles, including Storm Floris and being while rowing up the east coast of England. In a post on X on 7 August, Mr Lowe wrote "Dinghies coming into Great Yarmouth, RIGHT NOW", alongside a grainy picture of the ocean rowing boat, before acknowledging his mistake in a post the following day. The incident made headlines and boosted donations by upwards of £30,000 - including £1,000 from Mr Lowe himself. The original route also took the crew north into the Irish Sea, but after rowing 100 miles strong headwinds forced them to return to Land's End to start the row again, this time heading east along the English Channel. The ROW4MND team, consisting of Aaron Kneebone, Liz Wardley, Mike Bates and Matt Parker, is aiming to raise money for research into motor neurone disease (MND), with the first leg of their circumnavigation being the first of four epic rows over four years. As they passed underneath famous bridge, the crew were welcomed by supporters, well-wishers and members of the MND community. Mr Parker, co-founder of the ROW4MND project, said: "While we may have been fortunate in that the 'migrants' story made ROW4MND huge news, the media and public interest has now shifted from Rupert's tweet to everyone wanting to talk to us about raising £57m. "We couldn't have wished for a better outcome." Read more from Sky News: Mr Bates, a former Royal Marine and British record holder for rowing solo across the Atlantic, said the row had "exceeded our wildest dreams" and he also thanked Mr Lowe for bringing it to the world's attention. "A huge amount of effort and detail goes into planning a challenge like this," he said. "Coastal rowing is very different to ocean rowing and we've encountered some of the most challenging conditions that any of us have faced - including in the Atlantic and Pacific. "We'd like to thank Rupert Lowe MP for inadvertently bringing the eyes of the world onto our crew, which has opened the floodgates in terms of donations. "Maybe he can lend a few further words of encouragement for the second leg next year." Representatives from three charities involved in the project - the Motor Neurone Disease Association; the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation; and the Leeds Hospitals Charity - were among those welcoming the rowers to shore. So far, the crew have raised more than £135,000. Mr Parker said: "At the outset, we wanted to deliver two objectives: raising £57m to have a material impact on the search for a cure to MND; and building awareness about this cruel illness, which will affect one in 300 people over a lifetime." The crew plan complete the second half of their circumnavigation next year, before rowing from California to Hawaii in 2027, and from New York to London in 2028.
