NGO chairman arrested by MACC over fund misappropriation
Melaka Magistrate N. Sivashangari granted a seven-day remand order against the suspect following an application by the MACC this morning.
According to a source, the man, in his 30s, was arrested at around 6.30 pm yesterday when he turned up to give his statement at the MACC office in Melaka.
'Yesterday, the MACC detained four individuals on remand over suspected abuse of power involving the misappropriation of NGO funds at their workplace.
'Following the arrests, the MACC obtained further information indicating that the chairman had conspired with the four suspects,' the source said.
The offences are believed to have been committed between 2015 and 2025.
Selangor MACC director Hairuzam Mohmad Amin@Hamim, when contacted, confirmed the arrest, saying the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009. — BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have found several positive leads in tracking down the suspects involved in the assault of Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli's son at a shopping mall in Putrajaya on Wednesday (Aug 13). On Wednesday, the police confirmed the son of the former PKR deputy president was assaulted in an incident at about 2pm at the pick-up and drop-off area of a shopping mall in Putrajaya. Justice assured in Zara Qairina case, says PM Anwar
LARUT: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated that justice will prevail in the case of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir's death. He emphasised that no one involved will evade accountability. Anwar cautioned against attempts to manipulate the case or tarnish individuals' reputations. 'The government has said the police are investigating, and I have made it clear that it doesn't matter who (is involved), they will be investigated,' he said at the MADANI Dairy Entrepreneurs Carnival. The event, themed 'Driving Modern Agricultural Revolution, Generating People's Economy,' was held at the Farm Fresh Perak Dairy Complex. GENERAL LARUT, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed that those responsible for the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir will be brought to justice, stressing that no individual involved will be allowed to escape accountability. In this regard, Anwar advised certain parties not to manipulate the case in ways that create negative perceptions or resort to insulting specific individuals.
