Music legend, 84, admits 'I might be dead next year' ahead of new tour

Metro6 days ago
84-year-old Sir Cliff Richard has admitted that his upcoming tour could be his last, amid fears that he could be 'dead' by next year.
The legendary crooner and controversial gravy-maker is set to embark upon a series of live shows in Australia and New Zealand.
The octogenarian rock n' roll star has been a fixture of the music industry for almost 70 years, having rose to fame with the hit single Move It in 1958.
He went on to release such hits as Living Doll (1960), We Don't Talk Anymore (1979) and Summer Holiday (1963), from his musical film of the same name.
His global Can't Stop Me Now tour will get underway in Cardiff on November 30, before touring venues in Australia and New Zealand.
However, Cliff, who turns 85 in October, has admitted that this could turn out to be his 'farewell tour,' should the worst come to pass.
During an interview with the New Zealand radio station Coast, Sir Cliff – who was knighted in 1995 – admitted that he doesn't think too far into the future.
After all, he might be 'dead next year.'
'The thing I would have to give up probably at some time is touring. It's very wearing, and you never know when you wake up in the morning whether your voice is still there,' he shared.
Pressed on whether this would be his final ever tour, Sir Cliff said: 'I might be dead the next year!'
'So I don't even think about it anymore. It's one of those things. As I get older maybe I'll become less able to perform, so I can't say'.
Elsewhere in the interview, he admitted that he wouldn't be breaking out his old dance moves.
'I don't want to be an 85-year-old guy trying to be 18,' the Mistletoe and Wine singer told hosts Toni, Jase and Sam.
He may have once been credited as Britain's answer to Elvis Presley, but these days, Sir Cliff is best known for his colourful picture calendars, released every year to the delight of grandmas and ironic fans everywhere.
The 2024 edition saw Sir Cliff posing aboard a luxurious cruise ship, showing off his collection of sunglasses and colourful shirts.
Of the calendar, Sir Cliff said: 'I have grown to love cruising, it allows me to relax and regroup, sometimes prep for new projects, and above all, to socialise with friends who join me on ship.
'This calendar was fun to produce and allowed me to be creative in terms of where and how to take the images.
'I am pleased with the result, it's not me on stage or in a studio, and I hope you enjoy it too!'
The release of Sir Cliff's cruising calendar came in the wake of his 'fat shaming' controversy which ensued during an ill-fated appearance on This Morning.
Explaining his regret at not meeting Elvis, Sir Cliff told Alison Hammond: I had one chance, through a journalist when I was promoting Devil Woman in the States. More Trending
'At the end of the interview though, I said, 'Can we put it off?' because he'd put on a lot of weight, and I thought, if I'm having a photograph taken with him and it's going to be hanging on my refrigerator, it's got to look good.'

'You should never have put it off, just because they're a little bit heavier,' Alison joked back.
He went on: 'If you're a fan of somebody's, if you get the chance to meet them, meet them, even if they've put on weight!'
Alison retorted: 'Is that why you don't want me over at your house?'

There's nothing more figure-flattering than a crinkle swimsuit – 13 styles I'm adding to my holiday wish list

If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission - learn more We can't pinpoint the exact moment when the 'crinkled' swimsuit became the ultimate summer holiday staple, but we can certainly point out the brand that's led the hugely flattering swimwear trend, and that's celebrity-loved label Hunza G. The London-founded brand has been around since the 80s, when it was known as Hunza, but its trademarked Original Crinkle fabrication first became recognisable in the 90s, when Julia Roberts wore that crimped blue-and-white cutout dress in Pretty Woman. In 2015, the swimwear label relaunched as Hunza G by its current creative director, Georgiana Huddart, and the brand's one-size-fits-all swimsuits have since been popularised by It-girls such as Alexa Chung, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Hailey Bieber and Dua Lipa. Pamela Swim - Hunza G Hunza G's designs are simple – other than a couple of striped and metallic iterations, suits come in solid colourways with either a square, scoop, V, strapless or one-shoulder neckline. That's because the brand knows the real star of the show is its iconic Original Crinkle fabric. Sometimes referred to as 'popcorn' fabric, it's figure-hugging while smoothing out every curve because it stretches to mould to your body. (As someone who owns one of their square neck numbers, I can confirm it's the most flattering swimsuit I've ever slipped on.) While I think Hunza G's one-pieces are worth every penny, I have to admit the offering on the high street from brands like H&M, Free People and Bravissimo is strong this season. Inside Malcolm-Jamal Warner's split from Regina King and death of longtime love following his shock passing

Malcolm-Jamal Warner has kept his personal life out of the spotlight in recent years, prior to his shock death at the age of 54. The Cosby Show alum died in Costa Rica on Sunday, after drowning while swimming off the coast, according to local authorities who spoke with ABC News. Before his passing, Warner navigated a life filled with both significant Hollywood achievements and profound personal heartbreaks. He previously had a very public relationship with actress Regina King, 54, whom he dated from 2011 to 2013. Their relationship came to an abrupt end when Warner reportedly blindsided King by ending their two-year partnership. He also suffered loss when his longtime love Michelle Thomas, known for her role as Justine Phillips on The Cosby Show, passed away from cancer four years after their split. In March, King took to Twitter to deny any relationship issues with Warner. 'Hey everybody PLEASE don't believe everything you read. Me & MalcolmJamalWar are good. Life happens. Forward motion. Godspeed,' she wrote. However, in 2015 she revealed that one of her famous exes broke up with her on Valentine's Day, while speaking with Us Weekly in 2015, hinting that it was Warner. 'Someone broke up with me on Valentine's. Yeah. I'm serious,' she said. 'Then he actually sent me flowers that said, "I still love you," and I threw the flowers in the trash, and he was upset that I threw them in the trash, and I was like, 'F*** you."' 'I love flowers, but he thought that was right. What an a**, right?' King suggested that Warner was the ex, hinting that fans would 'know' who she was referring to. Prior to their split, Warner called his romance with King 'very special.' 'We like to protect what we have because it's very special and very precious,' he told BET in October 2011, according to New York Daily News. 'But I will say that it's a relationship that makes all the sense in the world.' The actor also dated Michelle, known for her role as Justine Phillips, his onscreen girlfriend on The Cosby Show. Their relationship lasted from 1988 to 1994. The two remained friends following their split. Tragically, Thomas passed away on December 23, 1998, at the age of 30, due to a rare form of cancer, four years after their split. In 2015 he shared a loving tribute to her on Instagram, writing, 'If there was ever an angel who walked amongst us mere mortals, this woman was it. So powerful even her haters would have to agree. She lit up the room like she lit up the screen! R.I.P. my love. We miss you. 'Then he actually sent me flowers that said, "I still love you," and I threw the flowers in the trash, and he was upset that I threw them in the trash, and I was like, 'F*** you,"' the actress shared; Warner pictured 2023 Warner went on to have a seven-year relationship with Karen Malina White, before his relationship with Regina. Warner later found love with his wife, with whom he shares an eight-year-old daughter, though he chose not to publicly share their names during his life. They were together for 10 years. He made rare comments about his wife on the Hot & Bothered podcast last month. 'If something happened and we weren't together romantically, she would still be the person that I would want to raise a child with,' he said. 'We've been together almost 10 years and we have never had a fight, an argument, a raised voice or a harsh word said to one another…. And it's not like we agree on everything,' he added. On Monday, the Costa Rican National Police reported that Warner's body was discovered near Cocles, a beach in the Limon province. He was reportedly caught by a strong current, and his official cause of death has been listed as asphyxia. While the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, experts note that some beaches in Costa Rica can pose serious risks depending on conditions. Though many areas are safe for swimming, others are known for powerful currents and rip tides that demand caution. Warner was best known for his iconic role as Theodore Huxtable, the only son of Cliff Huxtable, on the beloved NBC sitcom The Cosby Show. He appeared in all eight seasons from 1984 to 1992, earning widespread acclaim and becoming a household name. At the time, Warner was just a teenager, but his performance earned widespread acclaim, including a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at the 1986 Primetime Emmy Awards. His character, Theo, was based on Bill Cosby's real-life son, Ennis Cosby, and was portrayed with depth and sensitivity. In the show, Theo is diagnosed with dyslexia after struggling academically during his freshman year at New York University—an arc that resonated with many viewers. Beyond The Cosby Show, Warner carved out a successful and diverse career in both comedy and drama. He starred as Malcolm McGee in the UPN sitcom Malcolm & Eddie (1996–2000) opposite Eddie Griffin, and later headlined BET's Reed Between the Lines from 2011 to 2015 as Dr. Alex Reed. His television credits also included recurring roles and guest appearances on shows like Sons of Anarchy, Jeremiah, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and Community. Warner also voiced the Producer character on the educational children's series The Magic School Bus.

Coldplay kiss cam ‘mistress' Kristin Cabot and husband took out a $1.6m mortgage on ‘fixer upper' just FOUR months ago

THE alleged mistress at the center of the Coldplay kiss cam scandal took out a $1.6million mortgage on a fixer upper she purchased with her husband, The U.S. Sun can reveal. HR chief Kristin Cabot, caught cuddling with now-former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron, is married to another Andrew, a sixth-generation heir to the Privateer Rum fortune. 5 5 The Cabots purchased a $2.2 million home on the New Hampshire coast in March and did not buy it in cash. Documents obtained by The U.S. Sun show the couple took out a mammoth loan on the house with Morgan Stanley, and both of their names are on paperwork for the mortgage. They are yet to be seen in public since the clip went viral, and it is not known whether or not they have split. A mortgage could make any divorce messy, as both parties will be responsible for payments, regardless of who lives in the house. They may need to sell up or have one party refinance to take over the loan. Research shows a quitclaim deed can also transfer ownership, but it doesn't remove liability from the mortgage. The lavish four-bed, two-bath residence is described online as being a "classic New England gem" which is ready to be brought back to its former glory. It is not known if the couple had started spending money on renovations for the property or had hired anyone to make plans for them. WORK TO BE DONE The residence is located just two miles from the beach and was sold "as is" as the home "needs rehab." It sits on 1.42 acres, with fruit trees, berry bushes, and pastoral views. Coldplay fan who filmed CEO 'cheating' with HR chief at gig takes swipe at couple The property also boasts high ceilings, a wrap-around enclosed porch, a walk-up attic, and a two-car garage. Andrew's family lineage stretches back ten generations in New England and includes privateers, industrial titans, and merchant traders who helped shape American aristocracy, according to reports. The Cabots are one of Boston's original "Brahmin" families - a blue-blooded elite so powerful that even the Kennedy clan was considered too new-money to join their ranks. The family made its fortune in "carbon black" - soot used in car tires - and held vast holdings in Cabot Corporation. Their empire has included chemicals, paint, gas, and rum, with Kristin once serving as an "advisory board member" for Privateer. They have not been seen since the scandal broke when a TikTok clip went viral of Kristin's boss wrapping his arms around her at the concert during a romantic moment on the big screen. This appears to be the second marriage for both — Kristin's prior divorce was finalized in 2022, the New York Post reports. Meanwhile, the former Astronomer CEO, who has now resigned, and his wife, Megan, is also said to be in hiding, according to the Daily Mail. COLDPLAY'S JOKE Mom-of-two Megan allegedly fled the couple's main residence in Northborough, Massachusetts, and has been staying at their second home in Kennebunk - more than 100 miles away. She has reportedly removed several happy family photographs from her Facebook profile and reverted to her maiden name, Kerrigan. While some found the viral moment funny, other neighbors allegedly slammed Byron's actions as "disgusting." Neither of the couples has commented on the recent scandal. Frontman Chris Martin noticed the couple's not-to-subtle reaction to appearing on the jumabatron, but clearly had no idea who they were. He cheekily joked, "They're either having an affair… or they're very shy," as Krisitin hid her face and turned around, while Andrew ducked behind a barrier. Martin added, laughing nervously, 'Oh s***, I hope we didn't do something bad." At the band's following show, the singer cracked a joke with another couple on the kiss cam after the scandal was trending on X, formerly Twitter for more than 24 hours. Kristin has reportedly been placed on leave, while her boss has been replaced. Pete DeJoy stepped into the role and said the viral incident has received "a level of media attention that few companies - let alone startups in our small corner of the data and AI world - ever encounter." He wrote on LinkedIn, "The spotlight has been unusual and surreal for our team and, while I would never have wished for it to happen like this, Astronomer is now a household name." DeJoy added that despite the chaos, the company has "never shied away from challenges" - from the Covid-19 pandemic to navigating financial issues. He continued, "And yet, we're still here. "We're here because Astronomer is built by people who live to solve hard problems, stay late to fix what's broken, and care deeply about doing things the right way. "We're here because our customers trust us with their most ambitious data & AI projects. And, most importantly, we're here because the mission is bigger than any one moment." Byron had been CEO of Astronomer - valued at over $1.3 billion - since July 2023. 5 5
