Eagles' OC Kevin Patullo indicates a greater usage for Jahan Dotson in 2025
When Jahan Dotson was traded from Washington to Philadelphia last summer, it was a tough adjustment period. The former Commanders receiver came over in late August, long after training camp got underway, and didn't have much time to get acclimated to the offense.
As a result, Dotson caught just 19 passes for 216 yards last season. Dotson saw more targets down the stretch as he gained Jalen Hurts' trust, most notably in the Super Bowl when he recorded two catches for 42 yards.
In his first offseason program with the Eagles, Dotson has developed a strong rapport with Hurts as star receiver A.J. Brown remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Ahead of Wednesday's joint practice with the Cleveland Browns, Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo spoke about his plans to utilize Dotson's skill set in 2025:
'He's a really good route runner. That's the one thing when you put the tape on or you watch him in person, his route running ability is really dynamic and I think his maturity of just being around the other guys, you can start to feel him in different ways in the offense. I think what he's shown too is you can move him around. I don't know necessarily if we knew that when we first got him, but now he's in a spot where we can put him anywhere and we feel confident. So I think his game has grown tremendously from that standpoint.'
Dotson's route-running ability helped him get selected No. 16 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. Opportunities are limited in Philadelphia's star-studded offense, but these reps will have Dotson more prepared when his number is called.
The Eagles declined Dotson's fifth-year option in April, as his production didn't warrant the $16.8 million price tag he would've been owed in 2026. Dotson now heads into a contract year with the opportunity to bolster his value ahead of free agency.

Mukuba missed time early in training camp with a shoulder injury and returned only in the last few days to take first-team reps. He was in the right spot to pick off a pass from Dillon Gabriel. Mukuba took it all the way for the 75-yard score and a 7-6 lead. He added a fumble recovery later and broke up a pass in the second half, the kind of plays needed to close the gap in his competition with Sydney Brown for the starting spot. Campbell, a linebacker out of Alabama selected 31st overall, sacked Gabriel on the second play of the game. The Eagles just may have found two more defensive gems to make meaningful contributions in their pursuit of another title. The Eagles and Browns both played it safe with their starters after the two teams held a pair of joint practices earlier in the week. Sanders hurt his oblique in the first practice and did not play Saturday. The Browns started Gabriel, a third-round pick who worked his way back into the lineup after he had been sidelined with an injured hamstring. Gabriel was 13 of 18 passing for 143 yards and the pick-6. Tyler 'Snoop' Huntley played in the second half and was 10 of 13 for 71 yards. Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw a pick-6 to Henry that gave Cleveland a 19-13 lead in the third. Thompson-Robinson was replaced by Kyle McCord, another 2025 draft pick, on the next series. McCord, who is from nearby Mount Laurel, New Jersey, and was raised as an Eagles fan, threw a touchdown pass and threw for 47 yards overall. The Eagles had just 88 total yards. Sanders out Sanders, who covered his head with a towel as he watched from the sideline, didn't play after he sustained an oblique injury during drills ahead of practice Wednesday. The Browns said he is day to day. Sanders completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards with two first-half touchdown passes to Kaden Davis in his NFL preseason debut in a win in the opener over Carolina. The 40-year-old Joe Flacco, in the mix to start the season opener, also sat out. And Kenny Pickett didn't play as he recovers from a hamstring injury. High snap Yes, Thompson-Robinson threw the pick-6, but he wasn't helped by a high snap from Brett Toth. Toth played at center and Drew Kendall was at left guard as the Eagles tried to get by without the injured Landon Dickerson. Dickerson has been sidelined since he suffered a right knee injury at an open practice. The Eagles have not given a timeline for his absence or ruled him out for the season opener. Bill Belichick exits radio show as anticipated North Carolina debut nears
Bill Belichick has taken the air out of his radio career. The new coach at North Carolina will not participate in the Tar Heels' traditional coaches' radio show this season following the first airing of the season on Aug. 27, the school announced. He will be replaced thereafter by the program's general manager, Michael Lombardi, who will be joined by assistant coaches and players. The show has been renamed 'Carolina Football Live' after previously being known as 'Mack Brown Live,' Belichick's predecessor over the past six seasons. It still will be aired weekly from a restaurant near the Chapel Hill campus, according to the university's release.
