TOKYO, May 31 (Bernama) -- The close relationship between the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) and Indonesia's Antara News Agency will be elevated through stronger cooperation, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
He said that through a bilateral discussion with Indonesia's Communication and Digital Meutya Viada Hafid, both parties agreed to further the Bernama-Antara relationship in delivering news.
He added that this was important to ensure both parties remained relevant and credible as well as capable of delivering accurate and balanced information to the people in both countries.
'The discussion with Minister Meutya was mostly regarding our efforts to strengthen ties between Bernama and Antara, two renowned and important news agencies for both countries.
'What we can do is strengthen the relationship through Ikatan Setiakawan Wartawan Malaysia-Indonesia (ISWAMI), which fosters closer ties between media organisations in Malaysia and Indonesia,' he told Bernama in conjunction with the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity Ministerial Meeting (APT-MM) here today.
Fahmi said that Malaysia also offered assistance to Indonesia in several matters, including aspects of social media regulation in that country.
He added that the discussion with Meutya also touched on various important aspects of bilateral cooperation, particularly communication, media and digital infrastructure, in line with the current information landscape that is increasingly challenging and interdependent at the regional level.
'Minister Meutya said that Indonesia is indeed facing a complicated and acute situation, particularly involving online gambling issues, which are widely advertised on social media platforms and in need of stern actions.

No Issue Of Anwar Being Disqualified As PM, MP

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) said there is no issue of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim being disqualified as an MP and Prime Minister. In a statement today, the AGC said this was because the royal pardon granted by the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong stated that Anwar had been fully pardoned and regarded as a person who had never committed any offence. 'Any challenge to the election of an MP should be through an election petition, as provided for under Article 118 of the Federal Constitution, and must be filed within the time frame set out under Section 38 of the Election Offences Act 1954,' it said.

‘Bersejahtera Bersama' – Singapore, Malaysia Mark Six Decades Of Enduring Ties

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- Singapore's High Commissioner to Malaysia, Vanu Gopala Menon, has called for the continued strengthening of bilateral ties between Singapore and Malaysia, as both countries celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations this year. Speaking at Singapore's 60th National Day reception on Thursday, Vanu said the milestone was a celebration of the 'shared success and prosperity of both our nations' under the theme 'Bersejahtera Bersama.' 'In Malay, the prefix 'Ber-' conveys a sense of shared action, of doing something together. This aptly captures our bilateral relationship over the past 60 years. bootstrap slideshow 'One that has grown into a deeply intertwined partnership, built on trust and forged by working together, both in good times and otherwise. And, where we have prioritised shared prosperity for the betterment of our peoples,' he said. Gracing the event as Guest-of-Honour was Malaysia's Foreign Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan. Also present were Singapore's Senior Minister of State Low Yen Ling, Minister of State Baey Yam Keng, government representatives, the business community, members of the diplomatic corps, and Singaporeans living in Malaysia. Vanu highlighted three 'Ber-' words as anchors of the relationship, noting that bekerjasama (working together) has been reflected in regular high-level engagements. 'My journey in Malaysia began during my time as a slightly more junior officer many years ago. Having spent close to 14 years total in Kuala Lumpur, I have had a front row seat to the evolution of the remarkable partnership we celebrate today,' he said. According to him, both leaders continue to maintain strong ties and revealed that Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who has attended the 46th ASEAN Summit hosted by Malaysia as ASEAN Chair, will attend the 47th ASEAN Summit in October.

Check AI-Generated Jalur Gemilang Images To Avoid Disrespect

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The use of artificial intelligence (AI) to create visuals featuring the Jalur Gemilang must be carefully monitored to prevent inaccuracies that could disrespect national symbols and undermine the country's dignity, the Department of Information (JAPEN) has cautioned. JAPEN National Policy Publications Division director Mohd Sabri Abdullah said while AI is a valuable tool, human oversight remains essential, as the technology is prone to errors due to limitations in its training data and interpretation. 'AI models may lack access to official references and often merge elements from various sources. If the prompt is vague, the system will make assumptions, which can result in distorted or inaccurate depictions,' he said during a media briefing today.
