Five takeaways: LSU baseball earns No. 6 seed in NCAA Tournament
The official NCAA Baseball Tournament bracket was revealed on Monday. The LSU Tigers landed at No. 6. As expected, Jay Johnson's squad is a top-eight national seed and in a position to host a Super Regional if they make it out of the first weekend.
LSU didn't get postseason baseball at The Box last year as the Tigers were sent to the Chapel Hill Regional. Tournament baseball at Alex Box Stadium is one of the best environments in college sports. The last time LSU earned a national seed, in 2023, the Tigers went all the way, winning the College World Series. LSU eyes a similar path this year.
LSU capped off a 43-14 regular season with a 1-1 showing in the SEC Tournament. LSU beat Texas A&M in the conference quarterfinals before falling to Ole Miss in the semis. The win over A&M was enough to solidify LSU's position as a top-eight seed, and the Tigers entered Monday without much suspense.
Here are five takeaways from the bracket reveal.
LSU gets a favorable draw
The Baton Rouge regional sets up well for LSU. The No. 4 seed, Little Rock, has the lowest RPI in the NCAA Tournament. Rhode Island owns the worst RPI among No. 3 seeds.
At 40-16, Dallas Baptist has a good squad, but it's coming off back-to-back losses in its conference tournament.
LSU has a significant talent edge vs. every team in this field. Some No. 1 seeds weren't as lucky. Clemson, the No. 1 seed in the regional opposite of LSU, has to deal with Power Four foes West Virginia and Kentucky in its regional.
Little Rock doesn't pose much of a threat
We said Little Rock had the lowest RPI in the entire field. Taking a deeper dive into the numbers, there isn't much to scare LSU. This is the type of team LSU usually handles business against. Little Rock is just 24-32 and punched a ticket to the dance by going on a run in the Ohio Valley Tournament.
The Trojans' lineup ranks near the bottom of the conference in production. They rank No. 9 out of 10 in slugging and batting average. Little Rock doesn't have a single player with double-digit home runs, but Ty Rhoades leads the squad with nine.
Dallas Baptist has postseason fortitude
Dallas Baptist is no stranger to the NCAA Tournament. The last time the Patriots were left out of the dance was 2013. DBU played in the Tucson Regional last year, falling in three games. In 2021, Dallas Baptist fell one game short of a trip to Omaha, pushing Virginia to three games in a super regional.
Alex Box Stadium can be intimidating in the postseason, but DBU is familiar with big-time baseball.
The Dallas Baptist lineup has the talent to play spoiler, leading Conference USA with 96 home runs on the year.
How important is the top-eight seed?
LSU fans know how important the top-eight national seeds are. Hosting a Super Regional is critical to LSU's College World Series hopes. Since the modern format was adopted in 1999, LSU has never punched a ticket to Omaha without playing the super regional in Alex Box.
In 2025, LSU is 30-5 at home and 8-8 on the road. This squad enjoys the comfort of Alex Box Stadium.
Looking ahead to the Super Regional
With LSU at No. 6, the Baton Rouge Regional sits opposite the Clemson Regional, headlined by the No. 11-seeded Clemson Tigers. We hinted at it earlier, but the Clemson Regional has three Power Four squads. Clemson, West Virginia, and Kentucky are all capable of winning it.
The best case for LSU is that those three teams beat each other up and push the regional to seven games. LSU would like its chances vs. a tired visitor in the Super Regional.
The flip side is that all three have enough talent to upset LSU, but the Tigers would still be heavy favorites vs. West Virginia or Kentucky. Clemson poses a greater threat.

Auburn baseball vs. Coastal Carolina: Prediction, odds for game one

Auburn baseball vs. Coastal Carolina: Prediction, odds for game one Here are the latest odds for Auburn's Super Regional opener vs. Coastal Carolina. Friday night will be historical for the Auburn Tigers baseball program, as it will host its first-ever NCAA Super Regional at Plainsman Park. The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers are next on the docket, a team enters the series on an impressive 21-game winning streak which includes two wins over ECU and a victory over Fairfield in last weekend's Conway Regional. This year's super regional between Auburn and Coastal Carolina will feature strong pitching and even tougher outs at the plate. The Tigers boast six players with .300 batting averages or greater while Coastal has five. Each team has two hitters with 50 or more RBI while Auburn holds the edge in batters with 10-plus home runs, 3-2. Pitching wise, Sam Dutton will toe the rubber for Auburn in game one while Cameron Flukey gets the nod for the Chants. Both pitchers have ERA's lower than 3.90 and have struck out over 90 batters, which will challenge the bats of both teams. Who sets the tone by claiming game one of the Auburn Super Regional? Here is a look at the latest odds from FanDuel ahead of first pitch. Auburn will need to receive similar production from Ike Irish, Chris Rembert, Bub Terrell, Eric Snow, and Cooper McMurray as it did in the Auburn Regional last weekend to achieve that goal. Auburn gets the edge here because with those bats, and a strong relief effort by Carson Myers following Sam Dutton's outing, the Tigers should win a tight one in front of a record crowd. Tony Vitello discusses returning to Arkansas for Fayetteville Super Regional

Tony Vitello discusses returning to Arkansas for Fayetteville Super Regional No. 14 national seed Tennessee (46-17) advanced to a super regional after winning the Knoxville Regional. The Vols will face No. 3 national seed Arkansas (46-13), Saturday-Monday, in the NCAA Tournament Fayetteville Super Regional. The Fayetteville Super Regional will mark the Vols' second series at Arkansas in 2025. Arkansas won a regular-season series finale against Tennessee, 2-1, May 15-17, at Baum-Walker Stadium in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Since playing at Arkansas to conclude regular-season play, the Vols have compiled a 5-2 record in the SEC Tournament and Knoxville Regional. Tennessee defeated Alabama and Texas, while losing to Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament. More: How to watch NCAA Tournament baseball super regionals: Times, TV channels Ahead of the Game 1 between the Vols and Razorbacks, eighth-year head coach Tony Vitello discussed Tennessee returning to Arkansas for a second time this season. 'I think every game we've played since we've been there has been basically cut-throat,' Vitello said. 'I know it's double elimination format once you get to the regional. Different type of format going to Hoover this year, and we've had some good appearances or runs in Hoover, but we've also had a couple times, whether it went good or bad, the first day wasn't great. Our guys were tremendous against Alabama right out of the chute, and then the Texas game. I haven't rewatched it, but I'm going to wait and we'll rewatch the whole regular broadcast, not just our scouting report one, because it was an ESPN classic. I don't see how that one didn't help both teams in some way, shape or form, or at least I can say that it helped ours. Didn't go the way we wanted in game three, and then, you know, we go to the regional, but all those scenarios, whether they were positive or negative on the scoreboard, were great for our team. 'So, little more experience, little more maturity, and then I think as the years gone on, blame the coaches or me for taking too long, but I think it's been a year where you're kind of sorting out what do you want the lineup to be, where you want certain pitchers to go, and I think we have a better understanding of that now than maybe we did back then, or definitely prior to that.' Ranking LSU's top five super regional moments in Alex Box Stadium history

Ranking LSU's top five super regional moments in Alex Box Stadium history Postseason baseball at Alex Box Stadium is special. College baseball doesn't garner the same attention as college football and college basketball, but Baton Rouge is different. It has no equal. Alex Box Stadium holds 10,326, but you would think it's a lot more if you've ever watched a super regional in Baton Rouge. The place comes alive, and it's not all that different from Tiger Stadium across the street, despite a capacity that's just 10% of what the football stands hold. LSU has hosted 12 Super Regionals at The Box. The Tigers are 9-3 in those series and 19-9 in super regional games at home. Now, it's West Virginia's turn to witness the power of the postseason at The Box. The Mountaineers roll in for the Baton Rouge Regional set to begin on Saturday. LSU didn't make a super regional in 2024 after falling in the Chapel Hill Regional. The last time LSU was in this spot was 2023, when the eventual national champs swept Kentucky in two games. Super regional baseball at Alex Box will be a welcome site for LSU fans. Here are the top five super regional moments in Alex Box history. June 6, 2003: Back-to-back homers vs. Baylor force Game 3 On the brink of elimination, LSU used back-to-back home runs to lead off the eighth inning and force a game three. Clay Harris hit the first homer against pitcher Abe Woody to right-center. After the Bears made a change on the mound, Ivan Naccarata hit a solo blast to put the Tigers up 6-5. that score set up a rubber match. LSU took the series with a 20-run showing the next day. June 6, 2015: Walk-off homer vs UL-Lafayette In the latest installment of an in-state rivalry, LSU and UL-Lafayette met in Baton Rouge for a super regional match. The two sides came down to the wire in the series opener, winning 4-3 on a walk-off home run from designated hitter Chris Sciambra. The Tigers advanced to Omaha with a win the following day. The rare matchup of in-state teams well into the postseason provided an extra sense of excitement inside Alex Box Stadium. June 8, 2008: Ninth inning rally keeps LSU alive vs. UC Irvine After dropping Game 1, LSU was facing elimination in Game 2 of the super regional vs. UC Irvine. LSU trailed 7-4 entering the top of the ninth. The Tigers' season was on the brink. With the bases loaded, Jared Mitchell drew a walk to make it 7-5. Then Nicholas Pontiff drove in another run on a fielder's choice. Blake Dean singled to right field to score Mitchell, and suddenly it was tied. Catcher Sean Ochinko kept the rally going with a single to left, driving in the go-ahead run. The next day, LSU punched its ticket to Omaha. June 10, 2017: Big inning late leads LSU past Mississippi State In the opening game of the super regional against Mississippi State, LSU found itself in a hole. Trailing 3-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, the Tigers scored four unanswered runs in their half of the frame to cement a 4-3 win. Greg Deichmann, Zach Watson and Michael Papierski recorded the RBIs. LSU pitcher Alex Lange put together a standout game, finishing with 10 strikeouts through 7.2 innings. The contest was one for the ages in eyes of then-LSU head coach Paul Mainieri. "Well, that's a game that we'll never forget in these parts," Mainieri said. "I'll be talking about this game 10 years from now." June 7, 2013: Aaron Nola dominates In what would be a two-game series win against Oklahoma, starting pitcher Aaron Nola hurled a gem. The right-handed pitcher threw a complete game shutout at home in game one, his fifth of the season. Nola allowed just two hits and didn't surrender a walk while adding six strikeouts. LSU needed the effort in its quest for a College World Series berth as it won 2-0 over the Sooners.
