Twins starting pitcher David Festa placed on the 15-day IL with right shoulder inflammation
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Minnesota Twins starting pitcher David Festa has been placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.
The 25-year-old Festa was scheduled to consult with a doctor and get an MRI on Wednesday. The Twins are in Los Angeles to play the Dodgers and were scheduled to head home after the early game.
On Monday, Festa allowed four runs on three home runs in 5 1/3 innings.
'He woke up after his outing and his shoulder was sore,' Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. 'He'll have an MRI today and we'll know more (Thursday). We'll see where we're at. I can't talk about any specifics because I don't know any more than his arm didn't feel the way that it should normally feel. There's normal soreness and there's more than that, and this was more than that.'
Festa has started 10 games for the Twins, who are 10 1/2 games behind Detroit in the AL Central. Festa is 3-4 this season with a 5.40 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 53 1/2 innings.

With a mix of baseline excellence and strong net play, Fernandez eliminated top-seeded Jessica Pegula — the U.S. Open runner-up last year — and No. 3 seed Elena Rybakina — the Wimbledon champion in 2022 — on the way to the final. The win against Rybakina in Saturday's semifinals took three tiebreakers and more than three hours to decide. Singer takes shutout into 8th, Reds beat Rays 2-1 for 4th straight win
Associated Press CINCINNATI (AP) — Brady Singer took a shutout into the eighth inning and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 on Sunday for their fourth straight victory. Singer (8-8) left after allowing Taylor Walls' one-out homer in the eighth. The right-hander gave up three hits and a walk and struck out eight in his longest outing of the season. Tony Santillan got the final two outs in the eighth. Emilio Pagan pitched the ninth for his 22nd save in 25 opportunities. Rays starter Shane Baz (8-7) gave up singles to TJ Friedl and Matt McLain leading off the first. Baz struck out Elly De La Cruz on three pitches, but Friedl scored from second on an infield hit by Austin Hays. Paul Skenes dominant again, striking out 9 in 6 innings as Pirates blank D-backs 6-0
Associated Press PITTSBURGH (AP) — Paul Skenes struck out nine and gave up three hits in six innings, Oneil Cruz and Ke'Bryan Hayes drove in two runs each, and the Pittsburgh Pirates shut out the Arizona Diamondbacks for the second straight game, 6-0 on Sunday. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Skenes (6-8) is the first pitcher to have an ERA below 2 through his first 45 starts. The reigning NL Rookie of the Year sits at 1.89 for his career and 1.83 this year, which leads the majors. Skenes is the only starter this season who hasn't allowed a first-inning run.
