When does LSU football report for fall camp?

USA Today3 days ago
The 2025 college football season is about a month away and LSU football will begin its preparations in the coming days.
The Tigers report for fall camp on July 29, with the first date of practice being July 30. They open the 2025 schedule with a top-10 road matchup at Clemson on August 30. LSU is currently a 3.5-point underdog in that contest.
Following last season, head coach Brian Kelly's staff went to work in the transfer portal and signed the top class of the cycle. It included overhauls to the wide receiver and defensive end rooms, specifically, both of which benefited from an influx of proven power four talents.
Garrett Nussmeier returns for his second season at the helm of LSU's offense. The quarterback is chasing the program's all-time leading passer mark in his fifth year donning the purple and gold. He's expected to be one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC and compete for the Heisman Trophy.
As usual, the expectations are to compete for the College Football Playoff in Baton Rouge.

College football analyst gives bold prediction for Texas A&M program ahead of 2025 season

With the season-opening contest against UTSA nearing, a college football analyst is all-in on this year's Texas A&M football program. The first day of the Aggies' fall camp sessions kicked off Wednesday evening, as head coach Mike Elko prepares his team to face heavily-touted conference foes for the opportunity to reach the College Football Playoff for the first time in school history. The new 12-team playoff format introduced last season gives teams like Texas A&M the chance to control their destiny, but any success will need to be earned. ESPN's computer model, which ranks the strength of schedule for every team in college football, placed the Aggies at No. 9, according to The Spun. Texas A&M has challenging road tests against Arkansas, LSU and Texas, along with a non-conference rematch at South Bend, Indiana, against Notre Dame scheduled. Even with those daunting games awaiting the program this upcoming season, On3 Sports college football analyst J.D. Pickell has the Aggies reaching the playoffs in Elko's second year at the helm: While Pickell's picks garnered much attention from disgruntled fans, he could have gained a few from Aggieland with his breakdown of this year's roster when he joined "The Paul Finebaum Show" this week. "I think if you were to give A&M a different logo, there would be a lot more people picking them to be in the College Football Playoff. Marcel Reed is back, he was impressive in flashes last year. The production, that I love, is back on offense. I love their running back room, I love Collin Klein, I love what Mike Elko's about too," Pickell said. Just days before his guest appearance with Paul Finebaum, Pickell analyzed A&M's schedule and formulated his game-by-game predictions for one of the most difficult schedules in the country. With the first day of fall camp behind the Aggies, there are still 30 days left until the 2025 roster gives glimpses of their potential this season. Last season left much to be desired, after Texas A&M went 7-1 to begin the 2024 campaign before eventually concluding the year with an 8-5 overall record. The eight-win season in Elko's first year was the first time the program has reached that mark in the win column since 2021. The return of every starter on the offensive line from last year's squad should help anchor the offense and give sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed time to find talented targets like transfers KC Concepcion (NC State), Mario Craver (Mississippi State) and many more promising athletes in the Aggie wide receiving corps. Texas A&M brings much-needed depth to the table in the secondary this season with transfers Jordan Shaw (Washington) and Julian Humphrey (Georgia) anchoring that unit on defense. Returners like Cashius Howell, Scooby Williams and Will Lee III will bring leadership and experience to the group this season as well. Only time will tell if Pickell's predictions will come to fruition, as the Aggies are gearing up for the season opener against the Roadrunners, which takes place on Saturday, Aug. 30, at Kyle Field in Bryan-College Station, Texas. LSU football QB Garrett Nussmeier gets candid about decision to return to LSU

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier didn't hold back about his reasons for returning to Baton Rouge for a fifth year in an appearance on ESPN's Marty and McGee show. "I didn't want to watch anybody else be the guy that leads LSU to the national championship," Nussmeier said. "LSU means the world to me. I always wanted to win a national championship here. It wasn't about winning a Heisman or being the first overall pick. It was just about winning a championship, so having that opportunity, I just couldn't pass it up." After his first year as the starter for LSU, Nussmeier generated NFL Draft buzz with his talent. He decided to forego his professional aspirations to don the purple and gold once again. The decision sparked an active offseason for the Tigers. Head coach Brian Kelly's staff signed multiple experience power four receivers to rebuild LSU's offense around Nussmeier. Expectations are high for the 2025 season as LSU finds itself in the national championship conversation. Nussmeier passed for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns in 2024. A similar season would make him the program's all-time leading passer but the Lake Charles, LA native is focused on representing his home state well and bringing a national title back to LSU. "It's hard to explain," Nussmeier said. "Everybody that is from Louisiana probably can understand it. Just that stadium, that environment, you know, the passion of the fans, it's one state around one team. It's one state in one stadium.' "There's no place like Death Valley. It was just an unbelievable opportunity."

The Detroit Tigers are adding to their bullpen ahead of the final stretch by acquiring right-hander Paul Sewald from their division rival, the Cleveland Guardians, according to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News. The Guardians will get a player to be named later or cash considerations, per reports. Sewald is having a down season by his standards, but he has postseason experience with the Arizona Diamondbacks during their World Series run in 2023. CLEVELAND, OHIO - APRIL 21: Paul Sewald #34 of the Cleveland Guardians throws a pitch in the seventh inning during a game against the New York Yankees at Progressive Field on April 21, 2025 in Cleveland, Ohio. More Photo byThe Tigers missed out on top options Wednesday evening, but they won't come away empty-handed. Sewald has declined over the past two years after three consecutive seasons above league average out of the bullpen, but the Tigers aren't asking him to come in and be their lockdown closer. Sewald is still an attractive option with a 29% strikeout rate for the Guardians this season, and after the top options head off the market, the Tigers opted for upside depth rather than pay a steep price for the best remaining option in David Bednar of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The right-hander is looking to rebound in the final two months with the Tigers before hitting the open market once again this winter. The Guardians have fallen out of the playoff race and are selling this year, after consistently heading to the playoffs over the last 10 years and are setting up to retool once again. Sewald was not going to produce a return that the top relievers received, but the Guardians felt it was a deal that they could make for their expiring reliever. Detroit is loading up and getting ready to make a run at returning to the Fall Classic once again, and is tied for the best record in the American League entering Thursday.
