Akhilesh Yadav pays tribute to Samajwadi Party's founding member Chhote Singh Yadav
Farrukhabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 14 (ANI): Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav, on Saturday, paid tribute and visited the family of the founding member of the party, former MP and MLA, Chhote Singh Yadav, who passed away on June 13.
In a post on X, Akhilesh posted photos of meeting Chhote Singh Yadav's family in Uttar Pradesh's Farrukhabad.
'Today in Farrukhabad, after the demise of the pioneer of the cooperative movement, founder member of the Samajwadi Party, former MP, former MLA Late Chhote Singh Yadav ji, I visited his residence and paid my tributes and met the family members and expressed my condolences,' Yadav said.
Chhote Singh was elected to the Lok Sabha three times, in 1980, 1989 and 1991, and also served as an MLA from Chhibramau.
Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party postponed all of their party functions and events for three days, in tribute to the victims of the plane crash, which happened earlier on Thursday, Akhilesh Yadav said.
'Tribute to everyone who lost their lives in the very tragic accident in Ahmedabad! In this hour of grief, all of us are with every bereaved family. All the functions of SP will remain postponed for the next 3 days,' Yadav posted on X.
The London-bound flight, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people, including 12 crew members, crashed shortly after it took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport this afternoon, and rammed into a doctors' hostel in the Meghani Nagar area in Ahmedabad.
Former Gujarat CM, Vijay Rupani, was also among the people onboard the plane.
The government has constituted a high-level multi-disciplinary committee for examining the causes leading to the crash of the Air India Flight that left 241 people dead.
The aircraft was under the command of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, an LTC with 8,200 hours of flying experience. He was assisted by First Officer Clive Kundar, who had 1,100 hours of flying experience, the official said. As per Air Traffic Control (ATC), the aircraft departed from Runway 23 at 1339 IST (0809 UTC). (ANI)

Govt's high-level committee should not supplant investigation by AAIB: CPI(M)
New Delhi, The CPI on Monday questioned the setting up of a high-level committee by the Centre to look into the Ahmedabad crash, saying holding a "parallel" inquiry when India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau is investigating the incident will lead to doubts about government interference. Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Saturday said while the AAIB investigation will handle the technical aspects, the high-level committee will provide a holistic, policy-oriented roadmap for future safeguards. In a statement issued here, the CPI said the existing investigation should not be supplanted. The CPI said as per international protocols and norms set by the International Civil Aviation Organization , India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has commenced its independent investigation into the causes and circumstances surrounding the crash. The Left party said the AAIB will take possession of the "black boxes" of the aircraft and all other evidence, and complete its investigations in cooperation with international bodies, aircraft and engine manufacturers and other stakeholders. "Having a parallel high-powered governmental air crash investigation committee filled with bureaucrats will undermine the AAIB investigation and raise doubts about possible government interference," it said. The CPI demanded that the terms of reference of the HLC be immediately revised to remove all overlaps with the AAIB investigation, especially as to the cause and circumstances of the crash of AI-171. "The accident investigation is better left to professionals and experts. "The HLC should instead go into the Ahmedabad and other earlier crash investigation reports to formulate binding rules and mechanisms for strict implementation to prevent settlements and buildings coming up within prescribed distance and safety parameters in the proximity of airports," it said. They also said there was a chance that "many more casualties could have occurred on the ground, where large medical facilities were also very close by". "Firm steps are required to prevent such occurrences in future," they added. Air India's Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, operating a flight from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed soon after the take-off on Thursday afternoon. Out of the 242 people on board the plane, only one person survived. The black box of the plane was recovered from the site on Friday evening.

This is how we pay rent, school fees, and medical bills. Bike taxis are not a side income. They are how we survive,' the letter said. Rather than an outright ban, the association has urged the government to introduce clear guidelines around licensing, insurance, driver training, and safety, as done by Delhi, Telangana, and also warned of disruptions to daily commuters, citing that bike taxis offer nearly 8 crore rides annually and remain the most affordable option in many areas underserved by other transport modes.'Passengers also suffer. Many use bike taxis for quick, low-cost rides. These are the only affordable rides for thousands, especially where buses are few. We do nearly 8 crore trips in a year.
