Carletonville man gunned down outside his home moments before leaving for work
A 53-year-old man from Carletonville was shot and killed outside his home in Galena Street early yesterday morning, as he was about to leave for work.
According to police, the man, who worked at a local mine, had stepped outside to begin his day when a gunshot rang out. His family members, still inside the house, rushed outside and found him lying on the ground.
Carletonville Herald reports that he had been shot in the head and was declared dead at the scene.
The tragic incident occurred in a normally quiet part of Carletonville and has left the community in shock.
Police have confirmed that a case of murder has been opened and that investigations are underway. At this stage, the motive for the killing is unknown, and no arrests have been made.
'The investigation is ongoing, and we are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed anything or have relevant information to come forward,' said a spokesperson from the Carletonville SAPS.

Kenny Kunene was present during DJ Sumbody suspect's arrest
Businessman and Patriotic Alliance deputy president Kenny Kunene has confirmed that he was present during the arrest of a suspect linked to the deaths of DJ Sumbody and his bodyguards. The DJ was gunned down in a hail of bullets while driving through Woodmead, Johannesburg, in November 2022. On Tuesday, reports surfaced that Kenny Kunene was at Katiso 'KT' Molefe's home, one of the accused, during his arrest. Speaking to eNCA on Tuesday afternoon, Kunene claimed he was accompanying young journalists to an arranged interview at Molefe's house. He said his contact organised the interview opportunity, and he accompanied the journalists to the location. Kunene denied having any personal relationship with Molefe or having spoken with him before. He insisted his role was strictly professional and limited to helping the journalists with access to an interview. Elephant tramples employee to death at game reserve outside Mossel Bay A 39-year-old Gondwana Private Game Reserve employee was reportedly trampled to death by an elephant while out on the grounds this morning. According to the Mossel Bay Advertiser, the reserve is just outside Mossel Bay. KwaNonqaba police spokesperson Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp says preliminary reports from witnesses on the scene indicate the employee was on the grounds at about 08:00 when he was trampled and mauled by the elephant. Kapp adds that emergency medical services declared the man dead on the scene. The elephant has been moved from the area where the incident took place. An inquest docket has been opened and the investigation is ongoing. The employee's name is known to the Mossel Bay Advertiser, but he cannot be named until his next of kin have been informed of his death.
