A huge number of women have gathered at Jamboree Maidan in Madhya Pradesh's capital Bhopal for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Mahila Sashaktikaran Mahasammelan' programme on the occasion of the 300th birth anniversary of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar on Saturday.
The women are seen in traditional yellow and Sindoori (vermilion-coloured) sarees, waiting to attend the landmark event after the success of Operation Sindoor, which was the country's military retaliation to the brutal Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
On the occasion of the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilya Bai Holkar, PM Modi will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects. Additionally, the PM will virtually inaugurate the Indore Metro and the newly constructed airports in Datia and Satna from Bhopal on the occasion. (ANI)

After Operation Sindoor, Bhutto turns into a boor, calls Modi a cheap version of Netanyahu

The TOI correspondent from Washington: An indirect war of words erupted between Indian and Pakistani delegations on Wednesday as they arrived separately in the US capital to present their respective versions of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, Operation Sindoor , and the Kashmir issue , and the growing rift between the two nations. The spat was triggered by gratuitous remarks by Bilawal Bhutto, leader of the Pakistani delegation, who at a press conference at the United Nations in New York, likened Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a "Temu version of (Benjamin) Netanyahu...a poor copy" as he sought to draw parallels between India's punitive response to Pahalgal and Israeli actions in Gaza. Temu is a Chinese ecommerce website/app that sells discounted merchandize. The Indian delegation wasted no time smacking back. "Pakistan is a country that is surviving with inferior products borrowed from China, including military hardware. It must be hurting to see authentic, high-caliber military hardware and also strong democratic leadership on the other side of the border," clapped back Tejasvi Surya, a member of the Indian team, as it arrived in Washington DC and began meetings with US lawmakers, think-tanks, and social media influencers. "A country that is busy creating fake heroes, by promoting failed Generals, will never know what true leaders look like," Surya added. Shashi Tharoor, leader of the Indian delegation, appeared to have anticipated the clash, almost with a sense of relish, noting as the team arrived in Washington DC that the Pakistanis would also be there at the same time "so there's going to be perhaps an increase in interest because there are two duelling delegations in the same city." But Bhutto was down for the count even before got to Washington when he was ambushed at the UN as he tried to enlist sympathetic journalists with planted questions aimed at amplifying Pakistan's narrative about India's treatment of Muslims. Embarrassingly for him, a reporter called him out saying he had watched the briefings on both sides and "as far as I recall, there were Muslim Indian military officers who were conducting the briefings on the Indian side. " Bhutto also claimed that Pakistan radars had locked into 20 Indian jets on the night of May 7 and "If we wanted, we could've taken down all 20," but Pakistan showed restraint and"only 6 were shot down — the ones that launched strikes." He also rolled out the familiar trope about Pakistan being a "victim of terrorism" -- in a city where Pakistani nationals Ramzi Yousuf and Khalid Shaikh Mohammed launched attacks on the World Trade Center in 1993 and 2001. Congress Criticised, I Didnt: On Bengaluru Stampede Deaths, Siddaramaiahs Kumbh Parallel

Bengaluru Stampede: A tragic incident unfolded in Bengaluru on Wednesday when a stampede occurred near the Chinnaswamy Stadium as fans had gathered to cheer for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for winning their first IPL trophy in 18 years. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated that such incidents happen in many places and drew a parallel to the Kumbh Mela that was held earlier this year. In the stampede, 11 people lost their lives and 47 were injured. Speaking to the media about the incident, the CM added that the Congress party had criticised the incident that happened during Kumbh Mela 2025, however, the Karnataka government did not. "Such incidents happened in many places; I am not going to defend it by comparing them and saying that it happened here and there... 50-60 people died in Kumbh Mela. I did not criticise. If Congress criticises, then that is a different matter. Did I or the Karnataka government criticise?" said Karnataka CM. #WATCH | Bengaluru stampede | "Such incidents happened in many places; I am not going to defend it by comparing them and saying that it happened here and there... 50-60 people died in Kumbh Mela. "Deeply shocked by the tragic loss of lives in the stampede during the RCB victory celebrations near Chinnaswamy Stadium. A moment of joy has been eclipsed by sorrow," he posted. "I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wish a speedy recovery to the injured," Karnataka CM added. He also added that a victory parade for the RCB was not allowed as a precautionary measure; however, a crowd surge near the stadium where the felicitation ceremony was taking place for the team led to the stampede. "Precautionary measures were taken by not allowing a victory parade, but the crowd surge near the stadium led to this tragedy. I urge everyone to always prioritise safety — above excitement, celebration, or crowd fervour," Siddaramaiah wrote. The Prime Minister's Office also posted on X and quoted PM Narendra Modi as saying, "The mishap in Bengaluru is absolutely heartrending. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that those who are injured have a speedy recovery." The Deputy CM of Karnataka, speaking to the media, complimented the police and said, " Again I'm telling on record. I should compliment my Police officers... morning also, they wanted to have a procession, they wanted to bring a vehicle from the airport itself... Police guided us not to... that's why I rushed to the airport and ensured nothing went wrong... in Vidhana Soudha, also we were very cautious..." Shivakumar also informed that, for Thursday, except for the cabinet meeting, all programmes have been postponed.

Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah says '50-60 died in Kumbh Mela but I didn't criticise' amid backlash

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday addressed the recent stampede during RCB's victory celebrations, stressing that while such tragic incidents have occurred in many places—including the Kumbh Mela where 50-60 people died—he himself has not criticised those events. He added that if the Congress party chooses to criticise, that is a separate matter, but neither he nor his government have passed judgment on past tragedies. Addressing the incident, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah refrained from defending the tragedy by making comparisons but referenced similar disasters like the Kumbh Mela stampede, where 50-60 people died. 'Such incidents happened in many places; I am not going to defend it by comparing them and saying that it happened here and there... 50-60 people died in Kumbh Mela. I did not criticise. If Congress criticises, then that is a different matter. Did I or the Karnataka government criticise?,' he said. — ANI (@ANI) Bengaluru witnessed a tragic stampede during the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) IPL victory celebrations outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, leaving 11 people dead and 33 injured. The incident occurred as lakhs of enthusiastic fans gathered, far exceeding the stadium's official capacity of 35,000. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who visited hospitals treating the injured, described the chaos that led to the stampede. 'They have broken the gates. I think a lot of stampede has happened. I have spoken to the police commissioner and officials... the exact number of deaths is still not known. We are at it, we appeal to everyone to be calm,' Shivakumar told reporters. Shivakumar explained that despite heavy security deployment and efforts to control the crowd, the sheer number of attendees overwhelmed the arrangements. 'There was a huge crowd. We saw it from the airport itself. So we decided to cancel the procession and brought them [the team] in a closed vehicle. There was a request for a procession at least from Vidhana Soudha. As there was rain, the crowd got uncontrolled, so we cancelled that procession too. Here [at the stadium] too there were arrangements, for a procession — an hour-long programme. We instructed to conclude it in 10-15 minutes and, accordingly, it was done,' he added. Live Events The Karnataka government has ordered a magisterial inquiry to be completed within 15 days, with officials emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation to prevent such tragedies in future celebrations. This incident draws painful echoes of large-scale crowd disasters during religious events like the Kumbh Mela, underscoring challenges in managing massive gatherings in India. The state government expressed condolences and reiterated its commitment to support the victims and their families during this difficult time.
