'I'm an NICU nurse and I've come across some awful baby names in my career'

Daily Mirror21-07-2025
A man shared his shock after hearing the 'worst' baby names given to children at his local hospital - and he can't believe a couple would even dream of doing that to their child
An NICU nurse revealed the ' worst' names she has ever heard in her years working in a hospital - and people can't believe their ears. It comes after a man asked a nurse to 'share the worst' when visiting the NICU with his wife. He says he asks this question whenever he gets the chance as it's always entertaining.

On Reddit, he said: "My wife and I asked all the NICU nurses what the worst names they've seen while working there. The really crazy ones I had multiple nurses confirm were real: J' pronounced Japostrophe Pheline pronounced Felony Cash Money with variations like Ca$h Money and Kashmoney."

In utter shock, the rushed to social media to share the moniker with the Reddit community r/tragedeigh, which is an online term used to describe "a given name that has been deliberately misspelled or completely made up to appear more unique than it actually is".

Commenting on his post, one user said: "There was a baby called Thumbelina when my daughter was in the NICU. This was 23 years ago I thought her name choice was atrocious. I was so wrong. It gets way worse…"
Another user added: "Back in the early 70s I had a children's record of Hans Christian Anderson stories (narrated by Danny Kaye, who played him in the movie). One of the stories was called Thumbelina."
A third user said: "Oh my lawd! These are horrid. People name their kids anything just because they can."

'I asked to move away from obese woman on plane and her reaction was so awkward'
Another user added: "Met a kid with the middle name Dinosaur and have to admit I was a bit jealous.
"When I was pregnant with my second daughter I met a woman who had just given birth to her first daughter, Mars... also kind of cool, but I prefer more traditional names for my kids."

A final user said: "It's worth mentioning that OB and peds nurses have a certain sense of humour about kids names.
"I suspect it's common to see who can come up with the best fake names and they always get told as if they are 100% real.
"If you had to deal with crazy parents all the time, you'd develop a weird sense of humour too."
It comes after a brother blasted his pregnant sister for naming her son after a car dealership - simply because she likes how it sounds.
He explained how his 35-year-old sibling is due to give birth to her second child next month – and has already announced her second born's name to close friends and family.
However, not everyone is convinced the moniker is a 'good idea'. Some fear the boy will face judgement and ridicule later in life because of it.

The Block's Dan and Dani Reilly break down while sharing heartbreaking family tragedy

There was barely a dry eye in the house on Monday's episode of The Block as Dan Reilly opened up about his heartbreaking family tragedy. The series foreman kicked off the episode's pre-start meeting with wife Dani, who broke down as they spoke for the first time on television about the loss of their daughter, Billie. The reality TV couple tragically lost their daughter in December last year at just ten days old. 'I guess most people here would know our journey last year. We had our little girl, Billie – she arrived on the eighth of the twelfth last year,' Dan told the assembled cast and crew. 'Due to some... complications through birth we only got to spend ten days with our beautiful girl, Billie.' As the mood became more sombre, Dani continued: 'So, we're actually very grateful for those ten days – her time was spent in the NICU department at the Women's Hospital in Melbourne.' He was quick to praise the NICU staff, with Dani echoing his sentiments. 'Unfortunately, it didn't end in the way that it should have for us, but our time there, as Dan said, was really with Billie,' Dani said. 'Getting to know the nurses and doctors will be probably one of the things that we remember forever.' Dan then added that he and Dani were on a 'mission' to raise funds and awareness for NICUs around the country as well as Red Nose Australia. 'Their support for us has been absolutely amazing and they guide you through something that nobody should ever have to go through.' Dani added: 'And we're grateful for The Block for giving us the platform to be able to raise awareness for these organisations that were there for us.' To honour their daughter's memory, Dan and Dani have established Billie's Besties, a foundation that aims to raise money for the NICU at the Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne. The couple struggled to hold back tears as they recounted the harrowing story, and tenderly embraced as the teams also became visibly emotional. Since December, the couple has raised more than $93,000 for NICU support as a tribute to Billie. The reality TV couple took to Instagram in December to share the devastating news that their daughter, Billie Vera Reilly, had passed away on Wednesday at just 10 days old. They posted a photograph of themselves with their arms around one another as they stood beside their daughter's cot in hospital. In a heartbreaking tribute, Dani shared her 'insurmountable' grief and said she and Dan both felt 'honoured' to be Billie's parents. They wrote: 'Billie Vera Reilly 8/12/24 - 18/12/24. It is with insurmountable grief that we share the news that our daughter Billie, has passed on from this life and into the next at just 10 days young. 'In Billie's short time in this world, she taught us an intensity of both love and pain we never knew possible. She taught us what really matters. 'Billie was so wanted, so loved and she made us parents… and what an honour it is to be her mummy and daddy. She will always be our daughter. 'It's clear to us that Billie was far too good for this world but if we know anything for sure, it's that Billie's legacy will make an impact greater than all of us. 'Thank you @mrskevinsphotos for capturing such beautiful family photos for us and also for @heartfelt_ausnz for capturing many of Billie's firsts.' The couple first hit national attention when they appeared on the 2012 series of The Block. The pair, who were dating at the time, took out second place honours and a profit of $448,000. The pair returned in 2013 for The Block All Stars series, walking away with third place and a profit of $220,000. Dan has since taken on a role as foreman on the show and they also host the Dan vs Dani series, critiquing each team's Room Reveals every week. The couple tied the knot in 2018 in an intimate ceremony on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula.

I slipped over yards from where Oasis fan plunged to death at concert – spilled beer & rowdy fans made it a nightmare

Jade was at the gig and stumbled in a domino effect of falling fans 'LIKE AN ICE RINK' I slipped over yards from where Oasis fan plunged to death at concert – spilled beer & rowdy fans made it a nightmare Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) AN OASIS fan says she slipped over just yards from where a man plunged to his death at the reunion concert. The man - aged in his 40s - was understood to be sitting in the upper tier of the stadium when he plunged to his death at Wembley on Saturday night. Police and paramedics attended to the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Gallagher brothers said they were "shocked and saddened" to hear about the fan's death. Now, other fans have blasted the 'deathtrap' Wembley stadium, calling for the venue to be 'held accountable'. Gig-goers who danced the night away to Wonderwall say they were forced to hobble along low railings with a steep drop and a "lethal' slippery floor that was 'like an ice rink.' Some are labelling it 'horrendous' given 'the amount of money they've spent on this new Wembley'. Jade, 31, from Essex, was at the gig and stumbled in a domino effect of falling fans, suffering minor injuries. A man a few rows up from her fell down, tumbling into her and knocking her down too. 'The floor was slippery from loads of spilled drinks,' she told The Sun. 'My bag got soaked. Everyone in the seated section was jumping and dancing and way drunker than other concerts.' Watch the moment that 'proves' Oasis feud is finally over as Liam Gallagher pays emotional tribute to Noel live on stage She fell onto the row in front of her about halfway through the concert, and people helped her up. 'I just got up and carried on. But today I have a dodgy ankle, a few bruises and hurt knees.' 'People were absolutely w***ered,' recalled another on Reddit. 'A bloke near us collapsed, tumbled over a couple of seats and had to be evacuated by the medics - everywhere you looked people were out of their minds. 'It occurred to me that all it would take is one wrong step up there and you'd be a goner.' One fan said on Facebook: 'You'd think a modern venue like Wembley would have sufficient guards for this kind of thing.' 'The top tier is bloody steep. It's dreadful the barrier is so low,' added another on Facebook. Not everyone agrees that the stadium is to blame. One fan said on a fan group: '18 years worth of events, most with 90,000 people attending, and never an incident like it. It's a tragic accident, and blaming it on the venue or security is ridiculous.' An eyewitness to the fatal fall wrote on Facebook: 'He fell from the top tier into our block. My friend's daughter did CPR until the paramedics arrived.' Another shaken onlooker, who was sitting just three seats away, recalled: 'Hearing the bang and seeing the aftermath was just something that will stay with you forever.' 'The atmosphere was incredible,' commented a third on Facebook. 'We were nearing the end of the concert, when in the middle of Wonderwall, he fell right in front of us, a few metres away. "It was very shocking and we left Wembley very upset.' Oasis released a statement about the man, saying that they are 'shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show last night. 'Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.' Before singing Live Forever on Sunday, Liam Gallagher appeared to pay his respects to the late fan. He said: 'This one's for all the people who can't be here tonight, but who are here if you know what I mean, and aren't they looking lovely.' But Liam has used that line before singing that hit song on the other tour dates. In the gig after Ozzy Osborne passed away, the Britpop duo paid tribute by displaying an image of the Black Sabbath singer on stage during Live Forever, then dedicated Rock 'n' Roll Star, to Ozzy. In a statement on Sunday, the Metropolitan Police confirmed a man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining 'injuries consistent with a fall'. A Wembley Stadium spokesperson said: "Last night, Wembley Stadium medics, the London Ambulance Service and the police attended to a concert goer who was found with injuries consistent with a fall. "Despite their efforts, the fan very sadly died. "Our thoughts go out to his family, who have been informed and are being supported by specially trained police officers. "The Police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them. "Tonight's Oasis concert will go ahead as planned." Saturday's gig was the fourth of seven London shows on Oasis' blockbuster reunion tour. The band crashed ticket sites when they announced they were making a comeback last year - as more than 14 million fans tried to secure a seat at the highly-anticipated gigs. Last month Liam and Noel reunited on stage in Cardiff for the first time since a backstage bust-up broke up the band 16 years ago. The Britpop icons returned to their hometown of Manchester for five dates in July. They performed a 23-song setlist of classic hits, including Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger and Live Forever to a roaring crowd of 80,000 people at Heaton Park. They will head to America later this month before returning to London for two more gigs in September. Wembley Stadium said in a statement to The Sun: "Wembley Stadium operates to a very high health and safety standard, fully meeting legal requirements for the safety of spectators and staff, and is certified to and compliant with the ISO 45001 standard. "We work very closely and collaboratively with all relevant event delivery stakeholders - including event owners, local authorities, the Sports Ground Safety Authority and the police - to deliver events to high standards of safety, security and service for everyone attending or working in the venue."

‘They absolutely HATE them' rage Love Island fans as they insist feud is worse than we see on TV

The feud has been boiling over all series between the two sides LOVE AND WAR 'They absolutely HATE them' rage Love Island fans as they insist feud is worse than we see on TV LAST night's episode of Love Island saw Dejon Noel-Williams and Meg Moore unceremoniously dumped from the villa, just a day before the final. The ex-islanders were brought back in to cast their votes and opted to vote them off the show, but not before sharing how they really felt about their relationship. Advertisement 4 Love Island viewers claimed the other islanders "hate" Dejon and Meg Credit: Eroteme 4 The pair were dumped from the villa Credit: Eroteme They were tasked with choosing between Dejon and Meg and Ty Isherwood and Angel Swift as least compatible. The three safe couples, namely Jamie and Yasmin, Cach and Toni and Harry and Shakira looked on as each former islander shared their thoughts. Ultimately, Dejon and Meg received the most votes and Maya told them to say their goodbyes and leave for good. As the pair packed up their belongings, they told the rest of the villa inhabitants how much they loved them. Advertisement However, viewers at home insisted their co-stars 'hate them' and picked up on the simmering tensions that have occurred between Meg and the girls all series long. One fan wrote on X: 'These people hated Meg and Dejon. Leaving at the semi final and no tears or nothing.' Another expressed: 'That was the least emotional send off ever. Just Harry with the tears lol.' Somebody else commented: 'Meg and Dejon are devastated, the fake smiles. Dejon wants to cry real life tears.' Advertisement Yet another joked: 'Lol no tears from anyone,' while a fourth said: 'The way none of the girls are crying about Meg leaving.' A fifth added: 'The girls listening to Meg's leaving speech do not look bothered at all.' Love Island OG's Meg and Dejon DUMPED by returning islanders A divide between the girls has been mentioned all series long, with Meg appearing to be on one side with Helena Ford and Megan Forte-Clarke, while Shakira Khan, Yasmin Pettet and Toni Laites were on the other side. The two groups have clashed on multiple occasions, with the ladies on either side being involved in love triangles with the boys. Advertisement Viewers recently claimed that the divide started right at the start of the series, just hours after they descended into the villa. On fan forum platform Reddit, one informed fan noticed that the girls were splitting in the villa all the way back in episode two of the 2025 series. In a video posted on the platform, Shakira made a new best friend in Toni after her bombshell arrival and the duo gossiped together by the firepit. This was as Alima Gagigo, Sophie Lee, Megan, Helena, and Meg were all sitting together in a separate part of the villa. Advertisement Shakira told the Las Vegas cabana server that she felt like she was judged from the rest of the girls for chatting with so many of the boys so early on. She remarked: "I'm not joking, getting ready then the vibes felt so off. "So it's not enough to like pick up on and say something about because it's nothing that is being said, but it's the energy. Toni replied: "You know everyone is interested in you." Then Shakira stated: "I've been grafting, but I feel like the girls don't appreciate that. Advertisement "But equally what's stopping them from doing the same thing? We've all been here [only] a day. Like, I think I have a right to get to know everybody." In the captions below, fans seemed to concur that this was the moment the villa divide started. One fan posted: "Yep the twist of Shakira being single and having to graft the boys to stay def started the divide." While a second added: "I'm no Shakira-Harry fan, but as a guy, it always came across to me that jealousy was a primary motivator in those in the villa that disliked her."
