Viral Video Shows Japan's Crystal Clear Drains Filled With Fish, Leaves Internet In Awe
Japan has become a favourite travel destination for tourists around the world - and for good reason. From its vibrant nightlife to scenic hotspots, the country offers an abundance of attractions wherever you go. Japan is also celebrated as one of the cleanest countries in the world. The population's dedication to cleanliness is evident in their transport systems, gardens, and even their drains. Recently, a video of a drainage system in Shimabara, Nagasaki, went viral on social media. The clip, shared on Instagram by @ananya.ray, captured scenes of a drain where numerous koi fish were seen swimming in crystal-clear water. The video gave the impression of a giant aquarium rather than a polluted drain.
The side note read, "Even the gutters are spotless in Japan. While typical street gutters in Japan aren't usually this clear, what you're seeing here are specially protected canals where fish have been added to attract tourists. However, in the Japanese countryside and smaller cities, it's not uncommon to find storm drains with koi fish and even turtles. These drains may not be as crystal clear as the one pictured, but they are clean enough to sustain aquatic life. If you're ever visiting rural Japan, save this spot; you won't regret it!"

The video went viral in no time. In the comments section, several people agreed that Japan is indeed a clean country, but not all of them were convinced by the "clean drain" claim.
One user said, "I saw this on my trip to Japan at Easter. They have culverts with fresh water! Quite magical."
Another added, "I have been to Japan, and it really is beautiful and so incredibly clean!"
A viewer claimed, "This is not true everywhere in Japan. The gutters are not this clean. This is a specific area in Japan where the government cleans the gutters and places these koi fish to boost tourism."
"Everywhere in the world should be as clean as this," read another comment.

Pusa Rd to stay shut till June 17 for drain work
New Delhi: Commuters on Pusa Road should prepare for a challenging week as the Public Works Department (PWD) begins stormwater drain work between Pillar No. 111 and 114. The road, shut since June 12, will remain so till June 17. To prevent waterlogging in nearby areas such as Bada Bazar and Old Rajendra Nagar, the carriageway between Sir Ganga Ram Red Light and Pusa Road will be completely closed to all vehicles. Delhi Traffic Police has issued traffic diversion advisory. Heavy vehicles are advised to use Vande Mataram Marg, Shankar Road or Ram Nath Vij Marg. Light vehicles may opt for Sir Ganga Ram Road or Shankar Road via Pusa Road. Motorists are urged to plan their journeys, follow traffic signage, and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed at key intersections. The advisory also requests people to avoid unnecessary halts near the work zone. While diversions may slow down traffic temporarily, authorities ensure that arrangements are in place for monitoring and assistance. For real-time updates, commuters can visit the Delhi Traffic Police website or follow their handles on social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and X. One of the residents pointed out that it's good that vacations are on as there are lots of schools on the way. Otherwise, there would be more problems. Celina Jaitley Recalls Air India Crew's Kindness After JFK Heartbreak At 19: 'Held My Hand...'
Last Updated: Celina Jaitley recalls how an Air India crew member comforted her after heartbreak at 19. 'Held my hand as I cried from JFK to Mumbai,' she shared. The tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 has left the nation mourning. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, en route from Ahmedabad to London's Gatwick Airport, plummeted seconds after takeoff on June 12, 2025, claiming 241 lives and leaving only one survivor. As the country grapples with the scale of the loss, actress Celina Jaitley took to social media to offer her condolences and share an emotional memory that still holds deep significance in her heart. The former Miss India recalled an encounter from her younger years, one that continues to define her understanding of compassion and empathy at 30,000 feet. 'I was just 19, heartbroken at JFK airport in New York," she shared. 'An elderly Air India crew member noticed I was in distress and held my hand the entire flight back to Mumbai. She comforted me like a mother would. That act of kindness has stayed with me forever." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Celina Jaitly (@celinajaitlyofficial) Celina, a frequent traveler over the years, spoke of another incident that brought her perspective full circle. Flying from Singapore to Mumbai with her infant twins, she found herself overwhelmed, physically and emotionally. 'Once again, the Air India crew went out of their way to assist me. They didn't just serve meals or manage boarding passes—they made me feel seen, understood, and cared for." She juxtaposed this memory with a recent mishap onboard an Etihad flight in March 2025, where a crew member accidentally spilled an entire tray of drinks on her. 'I was soaked head to toe. For a moment, I froze. But I remembered something my late mother used to say: 'Always remember, child, an honest mistake is still just that. Never let your class of travel define your class of heart.'" What followed, according to her, was a graceful apology and a compensatory offering of 10,000 frequent flyer miles. 'But what mattered more," she emphasized, 'was the genuine remorse and compassion that followed. That's what makes a journey unforgettable—not just where you're going, but how you're treated along the way." As she concluded her tribute, Celina offered a poignant note of appreciation to flight attendants across the globe. 'To all the cabin crew—know that you hold more than just trays and boarding passes. You hold space for human frailty, for tears, for safety, for grace. May those lost in yesterday's tragedy fly high into the eternal light. And may we all learn to travel not just in comfort, but in compassion." In moments of sorrow, it's stories like these that remind us of the quiet heroes who walk the aisles of the skies—often unseen, but never unfelt. First Published:

Celina Jaitly Urges All To Travel In Compassion Amidst Air India Crash
Mumbai: As the entire nation tries to come to terms with the unfortunate Air India crash that claimed more than 200 lives, actress Celina Jaitly was reminded of a small incident on her way back to Bahrain in 2025. She wrote on her Instagram handle, "An air hostess accidentally dropped an entire tray of drinks on me. I was drenched from head to toe. There wasn't a single seat to move to, and for a moment I was seething with discomfort and disbelief." During her time of distress, Celina was reminded of her late mother's wise words - 'Always remember, child, an honest mistake is still just that. Never let your class of travel define your class of heart,' which helped her calm down. "I calmed down and the #airhostess did everything she could to make me comfortable throughout the flight back home to Vienna. They gave me 10 thousand miles as an apology as well and I was very grateful for the kindness and compassion that followed in my journey," she recalled. Paying her condolences to the families of the victims of the horrific crash, Celina added, "I was deeply shaken yesterday by the heartbreaking Air India tragedy. My heart aches for the lives lost, for the loved ones left behind, and for the crew who give their best every single day at 35,000 feet." Sharing her personal experience with Air India, she went on to write, "I've known that kindness personally. I still remember flying solo from Singapore to Mumbai with my infant twins, how the Air India crew went above and beyond to help. Or how, at just 19, flying alone from Jamaica via New York, heartbroken and abandoned at JFK by someone I thought loved me it was an older Air India flight attendant who held my hand as I cried all the way to Mumbai. I've never forgotten that." Showing her gratitude for the cabin crew across the globe, the diva added, "To all the cabin crew around the world you hold more than just trays and boarding passes. You hold space for human frailty, for tears, for safety, and for grace." She concluded by praying for the lives lost. "May those lost in yesterday's tragedy fly high into the eternal light. May we all learn to travel not just in comfort, but in compassion. @airindia," Celina penned.
