Centre has given more funds for Sanskrit, Urdu, Hindi, says Bharat Ekta Andolan

Bharat Ekta Andolan (BEA) has complained that the Union government is deliberately neglecting Kannada. Andolan president Mahadev Horatti has alleged that the Union government has cut research and other grants for Kannada in the last decade, while allocating disproportionately high levels of funds for Sanskrit, Urdu and Hindi.
The Union government has allocated ₹2,532.59 crore over the past 10 years for the development and promotion of Sanskrit and research, though the number of people learning and speaking Sanskrit is very few.
Urdu, spoken by 4.9 crore people, has received ₹837.94 crore and Hindi has been granted ₹426.99 crore. Neither Urdu nor Hindi is classified as a classical language. In comparison, Kannada has received only ₹12.8 crore, he said.
Mr. Horatti said that the Union government is following a policy of discrimination. Other classical languages like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Odia have also been treated unfairly. He urged the Congress and other parties to fight this injustice.

Calling it an attempt to end bitterness within communities and initiate a dialogue, the Maharashtra Congress has decided to hold 'We are Marathi, We are Indian' language workshop at Mira Road on Monday. Mira Road has been in the eye of a storm over Hindi-Marathi language discourse. A group of non -Marathi traders held demonstration after a non-Marathi trader was beaten by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena workers for allegedly disrespecting Marathi. Later, the MNS and Shiv Sena (UBT) held a counter demonstration, for which permission was denied that led to confrontation with the state authorities. 'In the last few days, there have been some conflict between the Marathi and Hindi speaking classes in Mira Bhayandar area. This led to a lot of tension and bitterness in the area. The Congress has decided to reduce this bitterness and tension by initiating dialogue,' said Maharashtra Congress chief Harshvardhan Sapkal. On Monday, the Congress will kickstart a language workshop called 'We are Marathi, We are Indians' from its headquarters and the second such programme will be held in Mira Road. 'In Mumbai and Maharashtra, people who have come from all parts of the country for jobs and business live together. But in the last few days, controversies are being created over the language issue. The state government itself started this controversy.
