Kate Cross expects results under ‘queen of English cricket' Charlotte Edwards
Edwards will send her side into the first of three one-day internationals against India in Southampton on Wednesday on the back of 3-2 T20 series defeat by the same opposition, with Cross confident her inspirational former captain can make a significant impact.

The Lancashire pace bowler said: 'She is the queen of English cricket, isn't she?
'I spoke in a press conference months ago about how Lottie was the captain that gave me my debut cap, so it's kind of like a full-circle moment for me where one of the best English cricketers to play the game is now leading the team.
'She's so passionate about English cricket and so passionate about women's cricket. She's the biggest badger I know – she's literally watched every ball that you bowl or every ball that you face, she's really on it. She's got about seven laptops, I think, to watch all the Blast games.
'But her knowledge around the game is just phenomenal, so I think we feel really lucky that we've had a coach with that sort of experience, but also with the career that she had in the game, come in to help guide us and make us a better team, so it's been brilliant.'
Edwards has work to do as she attempts to restore England's fortunes after a difficult year which has included a 16-0 Ashes whitewash, and she has vowed to make fitness one of the key elements of her regime.
However, Cross revealed she has set about her task with a smile on her face.
She said: 'She's not just not changed at all. She's still the same Lottie that was my captain eight or nine years ago, so it's been really lovely for me personally to have her around.
'She's just great fun as well. She's always chuckling and making you laugh, which is a really nice place to be in an international dressing room.'

On the pitch, Nat Sciver-Brunt's side are still getting to grips with Edwards' philosophy, and Cross insists they need time to do that as they attempt to eradicate the failings which have cost them so dearly in recent times.
She said: 'It's difficult. I know we're getting still quite a lot of press around our fielding. It's not where we want it to be and we know there's been some mistakes made in key moments.
'But hopefully if we can be judged in six months', eight months', 12 months' time when the new regime has had a chance to kind of bed in, then hopefully those comments that are made will be… not fairer, because I think the comments that were being made are quite fair at the moment.
'But you'll only then see the changes which will fit with the new regime that Lottie wants to bring in.'

Club expect to receive official Man Utd transfer bid for goalkeeper 'soon'
Manchester United have firmed up their interest in Senne Lammens and Royal Antwerp are expecting a bid for the goalkeeper in due course, according to reports in Belgium. Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon remain United's only additions of the summer transfer window on the back of the club's wretched 2024/25 campaign under Ruben Amorim. But the Red Devils are understood to made a significant breakthrough in their attempts to sign Bryan Mbeumo and forward's move from Brentford is set to be officially confirmed over the coming days. Determined to further strengthen Amorim's squad from back to front, United's hierarchy will quickly focus their attentions on finding an upgrade for Andre Onana once Mbeumo arrives through the doors at the Theatre of Dreams. Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez, Porto's Diogo Costa and Lille's Lucas Chevalier are all understood to be on United's radar as Old Trafford bosses look to address the side's miserable defensive record in recent seasons. Meanwhile, Belgian publication HLN report that Royal Antwerp shot-stopper Lammens, 23, finds himself at the top of United's shortlist of potential solutions between the sticks, with the club's interest 'becoming more concrete'. The report adds that Antwerp believe there is a 'good chance' that United will make an official offer for Lammens 'soon'. It's claimed the Belgian Pro League outfit are hoping to receive a bid in the region of €15-20million (£13-17.3m) for the former Belgium Under-21 international. While Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray are also monitoring Lammens' situation, the 'keeper is said to be holding out for a move to one of Europe's top five leagues. Lammens' current contract in Antwerp runs through to June 2027. United have been keeping close tabs on Lammens' progress in Belgian football for the past six months and, in February, the young goalkeeper told Gazet van Antwerpen he was flattered to learn of the club's interest. In the same interview, the ex-Club Brugge man also argued that his game was perfectly suited to the Premier League, which he branded 'the best competition in the world'. 'The first time I heard it, I thought, 'Wow! Immediately a world team is following you', and that is special,' Lammens said. 'Of course, I was also asked about it a lot, and when I made a save in training 'Those top clubs have so many scouts and follow so many players so it doesn't have to mean anything yet. It will only become clear in the summer whether anything will come of it. But of course, it is only positive. 'Especially because it is just about the best competition in the world and my profile – my stature and way of playing – is suitable for English football. 'You have to physically hold your own there and that suits me. 'You do follow the teams that follow you a bit. But it's not like I'm watching full matches. Summaries are enough.' Liverpool FC agree fee of up to £79million for striker Hugo Ekitike
Liverpool FC have agreed a deal worth up to £79million for striker Hugo Ekitike. The Reds have agreed to pay a guaranteed £69m to sign the France Under-21 international, with a further £10m possible in add-ons. Ekitike has been given permission by club Eintracht Frankfurt to travel to Merseyside to complete the deal, with the Reds hoping he can join the squad on their pre-season tour in Asia. Manchester United and Newcastle United have been among the interested parties but Premier League champions Liverpool look set to sign the striker. The 23-year-old scored 22 goals in all competitions for the German club after making his loan move from Paris St Germain permanent last summer. It would be the second time this year that Eintracht Frankfurt have sold one of their key players to an English club, after Egyptian Omar Marmoush joined Manchester City in January. Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes and some medical staff did not travel with the Reds to Hong Kong on Sunday in order to complete the signing. The Reds are looking to build on manager Arne Slot's successful first season at the club, where they won the Premier League title. Ekitike would become Liverpool's seventh signing of the summer, taking their spending to nearly £300 million. The striker would join new recruits Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman.

Lauren James can fire Lionesses into Euro 2025 final
England face a tough task when they encounter Italy in their European Championship semi-final in Geneva, even though they are clear favourites to reach Sunday's final. The defending champions cannot afford to be complacent against the Azzurre and must not display the lack of concentration which left them on the brink of elimination in last Thursday's rollercoaster quarter-final against Sweden. Trailing 2-0 with just 11 minutes remaining on the clock, substitute Chloe Kelly provided two exceptional crosses into the mix for Lucy Bronze to head Sarina Wiegman's side back into the match and then for Michelle Agyemang, a ball girl when England beat Germany in the 2022 final at Wembley, to calmly tap in the equaliser less than two minutes later, with a bit of help from Beth Mead. The wild penalty shoot-out which followed extra-time has already entered the annals of the beautiful game's history as one of those occasions which will never be forgotten, and the Lionesses must now ensure they profit from their resolute tenacity by reaching their third straight major final. The chances are they will meet Spain in the showpiece conclusion to a gripping tournament, giving them the chance for revenge against the side which beat them in the decider at the last World Cup in Sydney, but it would be a big setback if they missed that opportunity by losing their battle in the last four. Italy have progressed to this stage by finishing second to Spain in the group stage before squeaking past Norway 2-1 in the quarters. Cristiana Girelli produced a captain's performance by putting them ahead in the 50th minute then heading her side into their first semi-final at the Euros since 1997 moments before the final whistle. Italy created enough chances to tie the game up in the first 45 minutes and may not be as lax in the danger areas if they find England are not at their sharpest and will relish their tag as underdogs. They did, however, benefit from Norway captain Ada Hegerberg missing her second penalty of the tournament at a crucial moment in the second half and the Lionesses will be triumphant if they are fully focused for 90 minutes plus injury-time. Lauren James was unable to land our bets on her to open the scoring or hit the net at any time against Sweden but we will double down on the Chelsea star achieving both goals, pun fully intended, at 11/2 with bet365, Betway, Sporting Index and SpreadEx and at 7/4 with the latter two firms respectively while Girelli is 10/3 with Ladbrokes and Coral to reply for Italy. A 3-1 win for the Lionesses is 12/1 with William Hill with England to win and both teams to score 11/5 with bet365. Kalvin Phillips is heading for the Manchester City exit but a return to former club Leeds United is not a certainty despite the Whites being 1/3 favourites to sign him with William Hill. More Trending The England international is obviously keen to return to Elland Road having liked a social media post from former team-mate Patrick Bamford and another about the Yorkshire club extending their deal with Dan James. However, manager Daniel Farke may be reluctant to bring in a player with a concerning injury record when all hands will be needed on deck for the entirety of their first campaign back in the Premier League. Burnley may try to reunite Phillips with his former Etihad Stadium buddy Kyle Walker and are 8/1 with Hills to sign Phillips while Everton could use him to strengthen their engine room at 9/1 with the same firm. Defending champion and world No.1 Luke Humphries is out of the World Matchplay at Blackpool after suffering a shock 10-8 defeat to Gian van Veen of the Netherlands, in the opening round and the 23-year-old world youth title holder can reach the third round by beating Danny Noppert by more than 2.5 legs at 5/4 with Paddy Power, Betway and Betfair.
