Union minister blames Kerala govt for teen's electrocution death in live wire wild boar trap, cites ‘deliberate negligence'
Kozhikode: Union environment minister Bhupendra Yadav faulted state govt for the electrocution death of 15-year-old Anandu near Kalikavu in Nilambur from a live wire trap set up to capture wild boars on Saturday night.
Speaking to the media in New Delhi on Monday, Yadav said that the electrocution was due to state govt's deliberate negligence. "Anandu, who was killed in electrocution from wild boar trap, is the latest in the series of deaths by electric fences in the last few years. In 2025 alone, three persons were killed in the district (Malappuram). The electrocution was the result of deliberate negligence by state govt of Kerala and the local authority claiming several innocent lives," Yadav said.
To address the wild boar issue, Centre has issued guidelines to the state to implement a few measures, including giving powers to panchayats to kill the animals if they posed a threat to human life and crops, he said.
On state govt's demand for amendment in Wildlife Act to enable killing of wildlife which posed threat to life and property, Yadav said Centre had already given state govt the power to kill wild boars and it is being carried out.
Centre had in 2021 rejected Kerala govt's request to declare wild boar as vermin and Union minister's remarks pointed to no change in Centre's stand.
Yadav said there were a total of 344 deaths in state during the last five years, of which 180 (around 60%) were due to snake bites outside forest limits. Besides that, 103 deaths were due to elephants, 35 by wildlife, nine by gaur, four by tiger and 13 by other animals, he added.
Anandu had died after coming into contact with a live wire trap set for hunting wild boars at Vellakatta near Vazhikadavu in Nilambur. Police have arrested Nambyadan Vineesh, 36, of Puthiripadam, who had allegedly laid the live wire trap near a stream along the forest fringes for poaching of wild boars. He was booked under section 105 of BNS (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). The investigation into the case has been handed over to district crime branch.

3 fell to death from burning apartment in Dwarka: Electronic lock made getaway difficult, say police
A day after three members of a family, including two children, jumped to their deaths while trying to escape a fire on a 10th-floor flat in Dwarka, police said preliminary investigation showed that the main door of the house, which had an electronic lock, got jammed — sealing the escape route. The man, Yash Yadav (40), who had an interior design business, was declared dead at Indira Gandhi Hospital, said the police. His daughter and nephew, both aged 10, were declared dead on arrival at Akash Hospital. According to initial reports, the fire, which broke out at 9.58 am on Tuesday, engulfed the 9th and 10th floors of the duplex flat, where Yash and his family lived, at the Shabad Co-operative Group Housing Society. The police officer said their probe also showed that the fire, which first started in the prayer room on the 9th floor, spread further due to PVC panelling on the walls of the house. 'Doors with electronic locks are usually very thick, sometimes in the range of 40-41 cm. Some of them can be opened using WiFi, but as of now, the one in the house doesn't seem to be WiFi-enabled. Rescuers tried to break it before it burned down, but couldn't. The plastic of the PVC on the walls also aided in the fire spreading,' the police officer said. The family was unable to escape through the main door because it was automatically sealed shut, said another officer. Police said Yash's family had come from Uttar Pradesh for a puja. 'The family's relatives had arrived the day before to stay with them since they had organised a Bhagwat Katha… the fire started on the 9th floor, from the puja room,' Additional DCP (Dwarka) Nishant Gupta had said on Tuesday. 'Most of the family members were able to escape using a side door leading to the terrace. However, two children got left behind, and Yash rushed back to rescue them. While he tried to get them out, the fire intensified inside the house and the three of them got trapped in one of the balconies… as the fire continued to spread into the balcony, we suspect they panicked and decided to jump, hoping they'd land with a few broken bones,' said Gupta. Yadav's wife and elder son survived the fire and were taken to Indira Gandhi Hospital for medical attention. While Yadav's family had told The Indian Express that 12 people were inside the house at the time of the fire, the Delhi Fire Services reported that a total of five people were rescued from the house. The bodies, after post-mortem, were taken for last rites to the family's hometown, Dhumari, in Uttar Pradesh's Etah.

Two unauthorised clinics raided in Panipat, owners booked for illegal medical practice
Karnal: The Panipat police have registered two separate FIRs after the Chief Minister's Flying Squad raided two clinics operating without valid licenses or medical certifications. In the first case, Shabir Ali, a local resident, was booked at the Model Town police station under Sections 18(a)(i) and 18(c) of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, Section 34 of the National Medical Commission Act, and Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to the complaint filed by Vishal, a medical officer at the general hospital, a raid was conducted at SK Clinic in the 8 Marla area based on a tip-off received by the Civil Surgeon, Panipat. The team found Shabir Ali seated in the doctor's chair inside the clinic. When questioned, Ali claimed he was running the clinic. The name of Dr Kajal, BAMS—reportedly his daughter—was displayed on the clinic board, but Ali said she got married in November 2024 and now lives in Saharanpur. The team discovered a large stock of allopathic and injectable medicines inside the clinic, some labeled under the name of a Dr S Khan. Ali failed to produce any valid medical degree or license to justify his practice. In the second case, Devender, another local resident and owner of Dev EH Hospital and Medical Institute near Deswal Chowk, was booked at the Old Industrial police station under similar sections of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, National Medical Commission Act, and the BNS. Panipat deputy chief medical officer Subash Galawat stated in his complaint that Devender presented certificates claiming a BEMS (Bachelor of Electropathy Medicine Surgery) degree and registration with the Electronomopathy Medical Council, Panchkula. However, the raiding team verified that these documents were not legally recognised for medical practice. The FIR further notes that the legitimacy and authority of the mentioned councils to issue such credentials need to be examined by appropriate regulatory bodies. Both individuals are now under investigation for unauthorised and potentially dangerous medical practice.
