Racing tips and nap from Newsboy for Hamilton and 4 other Wednesday meetings

Daily Mirror27-05-2025

Newsboy's Nap selection for Wednesday, May 28, is the Jim Goldie-trained Oriental Prince (4.00) at Hamilton. His next best, In A Hurry (3.10), runs at Beverley
ENJOY some right royal success at Hamilton Park this afternoon by putting your faith in ORIENTAL PRINCE (4.00, nap) in the ICB (Water Proofing) Handicap .
The Jim Goldie-trained four year old continued his remarkable season when winning at Haydock 18 days ago for a sixth success in 2025.

On that occasion, he showed his courage by holding on from Abduction by a short head, and he can defy a further 3lb rise to garner an eighth career victory.

At Beverley, be quick off the mark with IN A HURRY (3.10, nb) in the Skidby Restricted Maiden Stakes.
The David O'Meara-trained Time Test filly was a good second in an Ayr maiden over a mile trip on her seasonal debut in April but was well beaten last time when stepping up a furlong in trip.
The combination of that extended distance and her over-enthusiasm put paid to her chances on that occasion, but now she is down to seven and a half furlongs.
Her debut as a juvenile last term was over seven furlongs and she was beaten a length into second in an encouraging run, and with two runner-up spots on her CV she looks ready to get her head in front.

Newsboy's racing tips for Wednesday's four meetings, including Ripon Nap

Newsboy expects his Nap, Flamborough Head, to bounce back to form in the 8.52 at Ripon, and he also rates Get The Value as a good thing at Newton Abbot (4.05) FLAMBOROUGH HEAD can coast to victory in the Ripon Theatre Festival 1st-6th July Handicap (8.52) over seven furlongs at Ripon this evening. Tim Easterby's three-year-old opened his account at the sixth time of asking at Redcar in April, beating Hill O Rue by a length. ‌ The son of Ribchester then ran well over today's course and distance when – with the addition of cheekpieces – he finished second to Zappata, a horse who was on a four-race winning spree. ‌ Significantly, he finished in front of his previous rival, this time on 4lb worse terms, but two and a quarter lengths to the good. He will need to bounce back after a lack-lustre effort last time at Redcar, but that was over seven furlongs. A mile would appear to be his best trip. Over the jumps, GET THE VALUE looks primed for his hat-trick bid in the Clearance Handicap Hurdle (4.05) at Newton Abbot over two miles and a furlong. After pulling up twice, John O'Shea's (above) seven-year-old has found his mojo since, romping home in novice handicap events at Stratford and back at today's course three weeks ago. He can defy a 7lb penalty and beat veteran six-time course winner Clearance, who is running in the race named after him. ‌ Wednesday's selections NEWTON ABBOT 2.05 KNIGHTS AFFAIR 2.35 ILLOGICAL LOGIC 3.05 POOROLDMACKLEY 3.35 PORTOBELLO GIRL 4.05 GET THE VALUE (NB) 4.35 JOHN BETJEMAN 5.05 USYK

Robert MacIntyre staying positive ahead of RBC Canadian Open

June 3 - Robert MacIntyre is seeing signs that his game is starting to come back around. MacIntyre will look to continue trending in a positive direction this week when he defends his RBC Canadian Open title at TPC Toronto. The 28-year-old left-hander from Scotland captured his maiden PGA Tour title last season in his 45th career PGA start, with his father as his fill-in caddie to boot. Currently 20th in the Official World Golf Ranking, MacIntyre recorded a T6 at the Charles Schwab Challenge and a T20 at The Memorial. "Look, the last two weeks have been pretty good for me," he said Tuesday. "Starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. It's not been kind of easy sailing for me this year. It's been a little bit of trying to fix certain things. But now I feel like we're on the right path and the game's starting to kind of merge together." That said, MacIntyre opted to reminisce a bit after venturing to Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Ontario. "I went and played Hamilton yesterday with my dad with two of the members at Hamilton," he said. "We had a nice day yesterday to try and kind of relive the memories and enjoy what we achieved, to be honest with you. It was something special that I probably will never do again in my life. Obviously I had my dad on the bag. But we went there and just hung out for four or five hours and just enjoyed everyone's company." Although MacIntyre has endured his fair share of struggles this year, that doesn't mean the two-time PGA Tour winner is completely down on his game. "Look, life's been good," he said. "Last year I struggled a little bit with the adjustments of life on the PGA Tour, but this year it's been more -- almost more golf, it's just golf-related, to be honest with you. Tee to green, I've been really good. Chipping has not been the best. Not that I've got a problem, it's just I'm chipping on grainy greens that I'm not used to. I'm used to bentgrass. .".. To be honest, right now my game's in a great spot again, and I'm looking forward to what's ahead." --Field Level Media

New Ayr United goalkeeper David Mitchell on his 'unfinished business' at Somerset Park

The first new signing of the summer brings experience to the number one jersey and returns to Somerset Park some 15 years after he left as a youth. David Mitchell says he has unfinished business at Ayr United - after rejoining the club he left as a kid. As a teenager he watched on from the bench when Ryan Stevenson scored his famous promotion play-off winner at Airdrie in 2009. ‌ Now Mitchell is back where it all began some 15 years since he left Somerset Park to pursue first team football. ‌ Mitchell, 35, returns as an experienced pair of hands bidding to bring stability between the sticks for United. And he insists Ayr are getting a far better version of the player who departed in search of regular game time. He told the Ayrshire Post:"It's nice to be back where it all started. When I was a kid here and went on loan to Stranraer, it was the best thing I ever did in terms of my development. "When I returned I was wanting to play games but looking back, I was never ready for that. So I feel like it's a bit of unfinished business to come back now. It's a proud moment for me. "When the manager picked up the phone, it was a bit of a no brainer. You just have to look at the ambition the club is showing and the plans that they have in place." ‌ Mitchell, who joins on a two-year deal after leaving Championship rivals Partick Thistle, is adamant he has the experience to calm a position that was often turbulent for Ayr last season. He added: "It's not something I've overly thought about - I just focus on the job I have to do and everything else should take care of itself. "I know I'll have a role to play with the younger lads and the other goalies - and I'll learn from them as well. I'm experienced but you never stand still in this game and you never stop learning. ‌ "It helped that I played a lot of games early on in my career and have always been an organiser and very vocal. I've always liked that side of the game and if you do that side right then it makes the job far easier." Mitchell, who was part of United's Academy setup before joining Brian Reid's first team back in the day, added: "It's really nice to be back amongst familiar faces. "Davie White was the head of the Academy back then as well and was someone who was really good for me. You always remember those people who really believed in you in the game. "So this is a move which just feels good for me and it will be another exciting season in a highly competitive Championship. "But the ambition on show here is big - the club are not just happy to be where they are. It's now up to us on the pitch to make that happen."
