Stage set for rollout of urban air mobility strategy in Oman
Held in partnership with Al Ankaa Space Technologies and GUAMobility, the 'Urban Air Mobility Forum' was attended by key industry stakeholders from the government, the private sector, academia and international organizations.
In his keynote address, Assistant Director of the Oman Logistics Center, Eng Awadh Salim al Sudairi, highlighted the significance of the event: 'This event represents a national strategic platform that highlights one of the most promising and innovative sectors — the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) sector, which involves the use of drones and flying taxis to transport people and goods within cities at altitudes of less than 1,000 feet, aiming to reduce congestion in a smart and sustainable manner. It forms an essential part of the aspirations of the Sultanate of Oman and is aligned with the goals of Oman Vision 2040,' he shared.
'Today, we gather with you to explore the opportunities and challenges, and to discover the potential of urban air mobility technologies within the national transportation ecosystem. Together, we aim to shape the future of our communities based on innovation, partnership, and sustainability,' he added.
According to Al Sudairi, the forum aims to achieve five primary objectives, including the formulation of a cross-sectoral national strategy for the Advanced Air Mobility sector, the development of an integrated sectorial infrastructure, and enhancement of the logistic sector's readiness for modern transportation model adoption.
Additionally, the forum aims to promote investment and entrepreneurship in the field, and empower Omani youth by building competitive national capacities.
Officials noted that the forum also aims to support Oman's candidacy to host the International Civil Aviation Organization's (ICAO) Global AAM Symposium in 2026.
The two-forum also features key workshops spotlighting various aspects of the urban air mobility ecosystem including: governance and regulation, infrastructure for urban air ports (Vertiports), airspace management and low-altitude aviation, financing and investment models, cybersecurity and aviation safety, uses of air mobility, capacity building, employment and vocational training.
Additionally, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology announced its intention of launching a national experimental "Geozone" which will be used to test AAM applications and technology in a safe environment. According to officials, the zone will allow startups and research institutions to develop industry solutions within the country.
Furthermore, officials from the Ministry unveiled that the forum will announce five key pilot projects, including: urban inter-city transport, air cargo and logistics services, emergency medical services (EMS), airborne security and surveillance, and the development of national innovation incubators.
The outcomes and executive recommendations of the forum are expected to be announced during the events of the Global Logistics Day on April 30.

Ports in Oman see a growth in handling containers
Muscat - The ports in the Sultanate of Oman recorded an increase in ship traffic and container and cargo handling during the first half of 2025, along with steps implemented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology to improve the port infrastructure. Muhanna bin Musa bin Baqer, Director General of Ports at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said: 'Container handling has witnessed a significant increase, with the total number of containers handled at the ports of Salalah, Sohar and Duqm reaching 2,427,195 TEUs during the first half of 2025, compared to 2,173,508 TEUs in the first half of 2024, achieving a growth of 11.7 percent, reflecting the efficiency of logistics operations and the ports' ability to handle the growing demand.' He said ports also recorded anincrease in the number of ships, as the total number of ships received by Omani ports and marine docks outside the ports reached 6,586 ships during the first half of 2025, compared to 5,930 ships during the same period in 2024, a growth rate of 11.1 percent, with several major ports contributing to this growth, most notably Sultan Qaboos Port, Shinas, and Salalah. The Director General of Ports indicated that the total volume of goods handled through Omani ports during the first half of 2025 amounted to 70, 114,527 tons, compared to 66,620,847 tonnes during the same period last year, an increase of 5.2 percent. He stated that the number of vehicles received by the ports reached 50,248, while the total number of livestock imported through the ports reached 2,694,293 heads, reflecting the diversity of economic activities served by the ports with high efficiency. The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology's strategic plans to develop port infrastructure, the Ministry has awarded the consultancy services project for the design and supervision of the development of Khor Jarama, which will contribute to enhancing the site's readiness and optimal maritime utilization. He added that the consultancy services tender for the rehabilitation of Shannah and Masirah ports has also been awarded. The project will take eight months of studies and consultancy services, and includes the requirements for rehabilitating marine infrastructure such as docks, a breakwater, and the bridge leading to the port, in addition to developing the port's master plan and an integrated vision for its organization and development. Oman: New deadline for part dualisation work on Adam- Thumrait Road
Muscat: The last date to submit for prebid clarification is August 26, with the next day the deadline to submit bids for the construction of Balance Works for dualization of Adam- Thumrait Road (Sultan Said bin Taimour Road Part 1 and 3A). It may be noted that this tender for the same stretch was first floated in October 2024. According to the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), the scope of the work includes the design and construction of junctions before and after the Qarn Alam Road (right-in, right-out junction). A right-in, right-out (RIRO) junction is a type of three-way road intersection where traffic is restricted to only allowing right turns both into and out of the side road. This means vehicles can only enter the main road by turning right and can only exit the main road by turning right. The design and construction of a 5 Km dual carriageway from Haima Roundabout toward Al Duqm, rehabilitation of the service road located in front of Al Wusta Roads Department and Wali Office, for a length of approximately 4.5 km, and the design and Construction of asphalt parking lots of an area around 25,000 sqm. In May this year, MTCIT signed the agreements to implement the third, fourth, and fifth sections of the project to close the final gap in the ), creating a continuous link between Muscat and Dhofar. The completion of the project was expected to enhance connectivity between the north and south of the country. Oman: Work begins on the Rakhyut-Dhalkut coastal road in Dhofar
The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCIT) has started construction work on a new coastal road linking the Wilayats of Rakhyut and Dhalkut in Dhofar Governorate, with a length of 20 kilometers. The project is part of the Ministry's efforts to develop the road network and enhance logistical and tourism links between the wilayats of Dhofar Governorate, in partnership with a specialized local national company. The new road was designed with a width of 12 meters, allowing the passage of various types of vehicles, and passes through rugged mountainous terrain. He pointed out that the project contributes to facilitating movement between the two wilayats by reducing the distance from 60 to about 20 kilometers, which is equivalent to a reduction of approximately 40 kilometers.
