As the Dallas Mavericks prepare to make Cooper Flagg the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025
NBA
Draft, the 18-year-old phenom is being thrust into a spotlight brighter than any rookie in recent memory.
Following the franchise's shocking decision to trade Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this year, many see Flagg as the heir to the Mavericks' throne.
But the Maine-born forward isn't carrying any of that emotional baggage, at least not publicly. In a candid revelation, Flagg shared that he is not under pressure to be Doncic's successor.
Cooper Flagg clears the air about the pressure of being Luka Doncic's successor ahead of draft night spotlight
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Flagg addressed the looming narrative of succeeding Luka Doncic in Dallas with calm resolve.
'I wouldn't look at anything as pressure,' Flagg said ahead of the NBA Draft. 'I'm not worried about living up to certain players' expectations or things like that. I'm just going to be myself and really try to get better every single day that I can.'
Flagg has remained grounded throughout his meteoric rise from Newport, Maine, to Duke, and now to the NBA.
His journey is already the stuff of legend in his home state. 'Yeah, I'm blessed that I have so much support from my state and people back home that support me so much,' Flagg shared.
'I'm just truly blessed and grateful for the people that show up, you know, the parties and celebrating my name."
The Mavericks' decision to part ways with Doncic stunned the NBA world. Fans protested outside the American Airlines Center and chanted 'Fire Nico' during games, clearly blaming general manager Nico Harrison for the move. But the mood began to shift when Dallas improbably won the NBA Draft Lottery despite having less than a 2% chance.
That victory gave the team— and its fanbase— new life, with Flagg now the centerpiece of that hope.
According to ESPN's Baxter Holmes, the 'Flagg effect' is already making waves inside the organization. A Mavericks team source revealed: 'We sold $8 million in new season tickets in the three days after the lottery' (via SI.com).
The source added, 'We have done two additional new sponsor deals, one the second largest in our history, since the luck of the lottery.'

Even before Flagg has played a professional minute, he brings a swift magnetic pull of attention to the franchise. And he won't be doing it alone. The Mavericks recently re-signed

to a three-year, $119 million deal and still have
Anthony Davis
on the roster, creating a new-look trio that could define Dallas basketball for years to come.

Max Verstappen accused of 'whinging' over claims of ‘passport bias' by British press
Max Verstappen's claims of biasedness by the British media has been busted by a former Formula 1 driver who feels champions like the Red Bull driver 'usually like whinging a little bit'. read more Max Verstappen had claimed that the media is biased against him probably because majority of them are British. Image: Reuters Italian former racing driver Riccardo Patrese has accused current Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen of 'whinging' over the claims that he has faced 'passport bias' by the British press. Verstappen, who has been constantly at odds with British drivers, had made the sensational claim of biased reporting by the press in 2024. The 27-year-old Verstappen competed against Briton Lewis Hamilton for the Formula 1 title in 2021 and faced a tough challenge from Bristol-born Lando Norris of McLaren last year. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'Sometimes in racing situations, or battles, or certain penalties, and the way people look at success and how much credit they give you or not, I definitely feel that there is a bias,' Verstappen, who was born in Belgium but presents Netherlands, had said after winning the Brazilian Grand Prix last year. 'The problem in F1 is that 80 to 85 per cent of the media is British. And I did feel that some things which were written about me were not fair. I am not going to sit here and single out one broadcaster, but I just had to laugh about what was said. I was like: 'Whatever.'' 'Verstappen is not crticised because of his passport' Former Williams and Benetton driver Patrese, who won six races in F1, doesn't agree with Verstappen's claims. He added that champions like Verstappen often have a habit of complaining. 'I don't agree with him,' he told '[He is not criticised] because of his passport. If [James Hunt was] Dutch, I don't think he gave any trouble during his career. I think the fact [is] that he's special and opens the right doors at the right moment, and he could use all the opportunities he could have. 'Sometimes with these rules, he doesn't agree, but I don't think it's because he's Dutch instead of English. Champions usually like whinging a little bit. I know very well it's because I had Nigel [Mansell] in the team that he was winging all the time.' Verstappen, however, has enjoyed the support of his former colleagues. Former Red Bull aerodynamics guru, Adrian Newey, has claimed that the media doesn't fully understand the four-time champion and has tried to demonise him. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'I think from the outside, I'm not sure people fully appreciate and understand Max, just like they didn't with Sebastian [Vettel],' Newey told the High Performance podcast. 'First of all, there's this sort of demonisation both of them suffered at times, which I think is very unfair, and maybe that's also a little bit of the British media, if I'm honest. 'Sky have a huge influence around the world, their viewing is truly international, but their coverage is quite nationalistic, dare I say, and that can have an influence. It's this thing that now with journalism, typically, there is that trend to sort of either put people on a pedestal or knock them down.'

'Think twice...': Ravi Shastri fires warning to Gautam Gambhir, Shubman Gill & Co on Jasprit Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah with his captain Shubman Gill (Photo by) Former India head coach Ravi Shastri suggests India should reconsider resting Jasprit Bumrah for upcoming Tests against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series, following India's five-wicket defeat at Headingley where Bumrah took five wickets. The team's current plan, as stated by head coach Gautam Gambhir , is to have Bumrah play only three of the five Tests for workload management. Bumrah recorded match figures of 5-140 from 43.4 overs in the Headingley Test, with all his wickets coming in the first innings. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "If he was looking at a rest, you may have to think twice. If you don't have him and then go 2-0 down it could be an uphill task," Shastri said on Sky Sports. India Outplayed at Headingley | England Go 1-0 Up in the Series | IND vs ENG 1st Test The other Indian seamers - Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna - struggled with combined figures of 9-482 in 92 overs, which might influence the decision to play Bumrah in the second Test at Edgbaston starting July 2. "This will be a tough pill for India to swallow. You don't get in positions like this very often and blow it from there. They had a chance to take England out of the contest and dictate terms," Shastri commented. "They have to learn and they need more bottle from the tail, for them to be stubborn and put a price tag on their wicket. There is a big role for the coaching staff to take the positives. As a captain, Gill has done more than can be asked of him. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo He got a hundred in his first Test in charge and the dropped catches (and collapses) are not in his control," he added. Quiz: Who's that IPL player? Former England captain Nasser Hussain provided his assessment of Gill's captaincy and India's performance. "I saw someone finding his way. He didn't quite have that on-field aura of Rohit and (Virat Kohli). I thought he followed the ball a lot and was reactive rather than proactive. When Rohit and Kohli captained, you looked down and you immediately knew who was in charge but when I looked down in this game I saw two or three captains, captaincy by committee," Hussain observed. "But India lost from two things Gill couldn't control - drops and collapses. The collapses concern me. In India they have had spin-bowling all-rounders that are magnificent - Ravi Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel - but in England they are still looking for a seam-bowling all-rounder who can bat. If they keep going 6-31 and 7-41 this could be a quick series," he concluded. Game On Season 1 kicks off with Sakshi Malik's inspiring story. Watch Episode 1 here

IND vs ENG: 'It is going to sting' — Rishabh Pant reacts after heartbreaking loss at Headingley
Rishabh Pant of India (Photo by) Even as England pulled off a remarkable five-wicket win in the opening Test at Headingley, India's Rishabh Pant walked away with a record that will go down in history. In a bittersweet moment, Pant became the first Indian wicketkeeper to score centuries in both innings of a Test match, an extraordinary feat that stood out in an otherwise forgettable outing for India. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Pant posted on X after the loss: "It is going to sting us for a while but we BELIEVE in bouncing back stronger." The message reflected both the pain and the resolve within the Indian camp after letting a golden opportunity slip away. Pant was India's heartbeat with the bat throughout the match. After scoring a fluent 134 in the first innings, the southpaw returned on Day 4 under immense pressure and counterattacked his way to 118 in the second, bringing up his second century of the match in just 130 balls. With this, he entered an elite club of Indian batters—Gavaskar, Dravid, Kohli, among others who've notched tons in both innings of a Test. More impressively, Pant became only the second wicketkeeper in Test historyafter Zimbabwe's Andy Flower in 2001—to achieve this feat. India Outplayed at Headingley | England Go 1-0 Up in the Series | IND vs ENG 1st Test His attacking style was once again on full display, particularly against young spinner Shoaib Bashir, whom Pant swept, reverse-swept, and charged at with unflinching intent. He also surpassed MS Dhoni to become the highest run-scoring Indian wicketkeeper in Tests on English soil. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Quiz: Who's that IPL player? India had posted 471 and 364, and set England a daunting target of 371. But Ben Duckett 's explosive 149, Root's calm 53*, and a late flourish from Jamie Smith proved too much. Despite the heartbreak, Pant's heroics gave India a fighting chance and reminded the world of his rising stature in the Test arena. Now with four Tests to go, India will look to bounce back, and if Pant's words and form are any indication, they'll do it with fire. Game On Season 1 kicks off with Sakshi Malik's inspiring story.
