Mr Yadav also clarified that no tender process would be involved in distributing scooties to meritorious students, and they would receive them directly based on their choice, petrol or electric.
Responding to the allegations, Chief Minister Yadav told ANI, "I am happy that there is a conducive environment for providing scooties to meritorious students across the state, in the meantime someone has spread misinformation that scooty will be given to them after placing a tender. No tender will be placed, the students will get scooty directly according to their choice either petrol scooty or an e-scooty," he said.

Who is Jalaluddin, who wants to replace Jagdeep Dhankhar? Files nomination for the Vice-Presidential election

New Delhi: Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from the post of Vice President of India on 21 July 2025, citing health concerns. Now, as the nomination process for the post of Vice President is on, a man from Rajasthan has entered the fray. He is a 38-year-old resident of Jaisalmer, Jalaluddin. Jalaluddin reached the Rajya Sabha on Monday, 11 August and filed his nomination papers with a deposit amount of Rs 15 thousand. Who is Vice Presidential candidate Jalaluddin? Jalaluddin is currently studying at Haridev Joshi Journalism University in Jaipur. Jalaluddin's inclination towards politics is not new. Earlier in 2009, he had contested the Ward Panch election from Jaisalmer district, which he lost by just one vote. Even after this, his enthusiasm did not decrease. He filed the nomination from the Jaisalmer Assembly seat in 2013 and from the Barmer-Jaisalmer Lok Sabha seat in 2014, although he withdrew the form both times. Why is Jalaluddin contesting the Vice-Presidential election? Now, when the nomination process for the Vice-Presidential election to be held on September 9 started after the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Jalaluddin also decided to participate in it and filed his nomination with the Election Commission on August 11. Jalaluddin says, 'I am fond of contesting elections. I know that my nomination will be cancelled, but I have still filed my nomination.' Why will Jalaluddin's nomination be rejected? Jalaluddin's nomination for the post of Vice President can be rejected due to technical flaws. During the verification of documents by the Election Commission, it was found that the certified copy of the electoral roll given by Jalaluddin was of an old date. According to the rules of the Election Commission, the nomination is automatically rejected due to such a mistake. When is the Vice-Presidential election scheduled for? The Election Commission has issued the notification for filing the nomination for the Vice-Presidential election. Nominations for the office of vice president can be filed till 21 August, and the election will be held on 9 September. This will be the 17th Vice Presidential election. Centre green-lights semiconductor facility expansion in Mohali

Mohali: The Union cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved four new semiconductor projects under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), including the expansion of an existing facility in Mohali. With six projects already under way, these new approvals — SiCSem, Continental Device India Pvt Ltd (CDIL), 3D Glass Solutions Inc., and Advanced System in Package (ASIP) technologies — will bring cumulative investments of Rs 4,600 crore and create more than 2,000 skilled jobs. This takes the total approved projects under ISM to 10, with investments of Rs 1.60 lakh crore across six states. In Mohali, CDIL will expand its discrete semiconductor manufacturing facility to produce high-power devices such as MOSFETs, IGBTs, Schottky Barrier Diodes, and transistors using silicon and silicon carbide technologies. The upgraded plant will have an annual capacity of 158.38 million units, serving sectors like automotive electronics (including EVs), renewable energy, power conversion, industrial applications, and communication infrastructure. "The Punjab unit of BJP thanked the PM for approving the expansion of a discrete semiconductor manufacturing facility in Mohali," Ashwani Sharma, party's working president, said in a press release. 600-cr infra grant: Mayor puts the ball in MLA's court

Mohali: Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu has put the ball into MLA Kulwant Singh's court over a Rs 600 crore development grant, asking the legislator to approach the chief minister for its release. On Tuesday, the mayor, through his representative, delivered a copy of a letter addressed to the CM to the MLA's office. The letter seeks urgent financial assistance for 15 key projects in Mohali, including resolving the garbage crisis, improving drainage, introducing a city bus service, replacing the old asbestos sewage system, and constructing an auditorium. Sidhu said the municipal corporation is in dire need of funds, with no independent revenue sources. He alleged that Gmada, which earns billions from land sales in Mohali, fails to provide the necessary share for city development, leaving crucial projects stalled. The mayor recalled that MLA Kulwant Singh had earlier asked for a detailed expenditure plan for the Rs 600 crore grant. "I have now provided him with the details," he said, adding that he obtained a letter from the MLA's office through Bhim Singh, the legislator's Sidhu challenged the MLA to state when he would meet the CM for the release of the grant. "We are ready to go along with him at any time," he said, adding that the residents of the city cannot wait any longer for basic infrastructure improvements. The proposal, the mayor said, outlines the urgent works required to expedite Mohali's development, with each project prioritised for immediate execution if funds are approved.
