Harry Brook's brilliant 'Dilscoop' six off Tim Southee in The Hundred continues his run-scoring spree, leading Northern Superchargers to a 36-run victory.
Star England batter Harry Brook continued his run-scoring spree from the Test series against India into the Hundred, as he smacked Tim Southee for an audacious, off-balance 'Dilscoop' on Friday, stunning the commentators as his unique shot went for a six.
Coming in at 138/2, Northern Superchargers skipper Brook didn't take any time to settle in and was on fire from the word go.
Southee, who served as a specialist skills consultant for England during the India Test series, found himself on the receiving end of the daring stroke. Watch the video here:
Coming in after wicketkeeper Michael Pepper had been dismissed by Southee, Brook produced a brilliant variation of the stroke popularised by Tillakaratne Dilshan, directing it into a region targeted by Brendon McCullum.
Brook got under a length ball from Southee, executing a reverse scoop over the keeper's head, even losing his balance and falling on the crease in the process.
The knock carried the Superchargers to 193/5, the highest total in two years, which the Birmingham Phoenix fell short of by 36 runs.
Star England batter Zak Crawley and Dawid Malan put on a 67-run opening partnership earlier, laying the foundation for Brook's late assault.
For Birmingham, Liam Livingstone and Jacob Bethell put on an important 80-run partnership, but no one else could cross 15. The Superchargers hold the top spot on the table, boasting three victories from four matches.
Notably, Brook was England's second-highest run-scorer, only behind ace batter Joe Root, in the recent Test series against India, where he scored 481 runs in five matches, at a stunning average of 53.44.

Irfan Pathan Reveals Story Behind 'Tongue Out' Celebration: 'Smelling Like Indian Curry'

Last Updated: Irfan Pathan revealed his 'tongue out' celebration in the 2008 Perth Test was a response to racial taunts from the Australian crowd. Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan recently shared several untold stories from his playing days, including the true inspiration behind his iconic 'tongue out' celebration during the 2008 Perth Test against Australia. India and Australia have always had a fierce on-field rivalry, characterised by intense competition and heated moments. The 2007-08 series was no exception, filled with controversies and spirited battles. During the Perth Test, while Irfan was fielding near the boundary, he was subjected to racial taunts from a section of the Australian crowd. 'When I was fielding at the boundary line, they targeted me by saying things like, 'You have eaten Indian curry, you're smelling like Indian curry.' The Australian crowd try to get under your skin," Irfan was quoted as saying in an interview with The Lallantop. Instead of moving away, Irfan chose to respond in his own unique way. 'I didn't change my field position and instead gave them replies. 'When I took a wicket, I took my tongue out to indicate that my tongue is very clean and there's no smell. So, that celebration was for the crowd," he explained. India went on to win that historic Perth Test by 72 runs, marking one of their most famous overseas victories. Irfan was named Player of the Match for his all-round performance, scoring 28 and 26 runs in the two innings and taking five wickets to help India bounce back in the series. However, alongside these highs, Irfan also faced career setbacks. He recalled how in 2009, despite performing well in Sri Lanka alongside his brother Yusuf Pathan — where India chased down 60 runs off just 27-28 balls — he was sidelined during the New Zealand tour. 'It was back in 2009, when we were in New Zealand. Before that, my brother (Yusuf Pathan) and I had won matches in Sri Lanka. The situation in which we had pulled a win – if it had been anyone else in our place, they wouldn't have been dropped for a year. In that match against Sri Lanka, we needed 60 runs from just 27-28 balls, and we won it from there," Irfan was quoted as saying to The Lallantop. 'In New Zealand, I was benched for the first match, the second match, and the third match as well. The fourth match was a draw because of rain. I wasn't in the final match either. Then I asked Gary sir why I had been dropped. If there was something I needed to improve, he could tell me, but I wanted to know the reason I was left out," he added. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 47-Year-Old Man Arrested For Racial Abuse At Antonie Semenyo In PL Opener

Last Updated: A man was arrested after AFC Bournemouth's Antonie Semenyo reported racial abuse during a game against Liverpool. A man was arrested after AFC Bournemouth forward Antonie Semenyo reported racial abuse directed at him from the stands during a game against Liverpool at Anfield Stadium. The Premier League opener between champions Liverpool and Bournemouth was halted for several minutes in the first half due to an allegation of 'discriminatory abuse" from a supporter towards Semenyo. Play resumed, and an anti-discrimination message was later read out to the crowd at half-time. Merseyside Police confirmed on Saturday that a 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and taken into custody for questioning. Earlier, Semenyo expressed his gratitude on social media for the support he received after the incident, highlighting the unity of the football community. 'Last night at Anfield will stay with me forever – not because of one person's words, but because of how the entire football family stood together. 'To my @afcb teammates who supported me in that moment, to the @liverpoolfc players and fans who showed their true character, to the @premierleague officials who handled it professionally – thank you. 'The overwhelming messages of support from across the football world remind me why I love this sport. We keep moving forward, together," Semenyo's social media post read. Among those who supported Semenyo were Liverpool head coach and captain Arne Slot. (With IANS Inputs) view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Big Boost For India! Suyakumar Yadav Clears Crucial Test Before Asia Cup Selection

Last Updated: India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav cleared a fitness test at BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, ahead of the 2025 Asia Cup selection meeting on August 19 in Mumbai. India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav has reportedly cleared a fitness test at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, crucially in time for the board's selection meeting regarding the 2025 Asia Cup in September. Suryakumar underwent surgery for a lower abdomen hernia in Germany in June. The selection committee will convene in Mumbai on August 19 to discuss and announce the squad for the T20 multi-nation tournament. Suryakumar is expected to be present alongside chief selector Ajit Agarkar, with many pivotal calls set to be taken for India's T20I future. 'He has cleared his fitness and will be available to captain the Indian team during the Asia Cup," The Indian Express quoted a BCCI source as saying. 'He was at the COE till a few days ago, where he underwent a rehab programme and has now been declared fit. He will be attending the Indian team selection meeting." The 34-year-old has recently been rocked by injuries. He went under the knife for a similar sports hernia injury last year, too. The year before that, he underwent surgery for an ankle issue. This time, he was said to have consulted a doctor in the United Kingdom after IPL 2025. India will hope that the recurrent injuries don't hamper his preparations for a crucial patch of T20I cricket. India's Asia Cup campaign begins on September 10 against the UAE. Suryakumar is the sixth-ranked T20I batter in the ICC rankings but is widely considered one of the best in Indian history, and thus crucial to the team's hopes of defending the title. Will Suryakumar pick his successor? Although Suryakumar has a goos few years of cricket ahead of him, a lot of the talk ahead of the Asia Cup team selection has surrounded around who'd be his successor. Axar Patel is the current vice-captain, and he's 31, but Shubman Gill's success with the Test team has shaken things up, if reports are to be believed. Some believe that this is the right time to appoint Gill as the T20I vice-captain, like in ODIs, to prepare him for eventually taking over from Suryakumar. However, he's a top-order player, and the current top-three of India — Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Tilak Varma — have been in good form and enjoy the team's backing. The team's selection will not only decide India's Asia Cup future but also view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
