Formula E Champion Pascal Wehrlein Completes Porsche Lineup for Le Mans
Porche Penske Motorsport has locked in its driver lineup for this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans.
On Tuesday, the Porche announced that defending Formula E champion and former Formula 1 racer Pascal Wehrlein will complete the three-driver team for Porsche Penske's No. 4 Porsche 963. He will team with IMSA Rolex 24 at Daytona winners Felipe Nasr and Nick Tandy.
Wehrlein, who drove for the Manor/Sauber teams in F1 in 2016 and 2017, is a full-time driver for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Team. Wehrlein's Formula E teammate, Antonio Felix da Costa will also be racing at Le Mans, where he'll drive an Oreca prototype in the LMP2 class.
Wehrlein will be making his Le Mans debut, while three-time IMSA champion Nasr will be making his sixth start and Tandy his 13th. Tandy won the overall Le Mans title with Porsche in 2015."Competing for Porsche Penske Motorsport at Le Mans is a dream come true for me," Wehrlein said. "I'm very looking forward to the challenge because, unlike in Formula E, I have to share everything in the Porsche 963 that I would normally tailor specifically to myself: seating position, setup, strategy, and more."
"Of course, I want to add major titles in other series to my Formula E World Championship victory, but my primary goal is to do a strong job for the team and learn as much as possible. Porsche has such an iconic motorsport heritage; I am extremely grateful for this opportunity."
Wehrlein helped the JDC/Miller Motorsports Porsche 963 entry finish a strong sixth overall in the Rolex 24 at Daytona. It was Wehrlein's first 24-hour sports car race.

Nearly 20,000 Volkswagen workers take voluntary redundancy while others could work a 4-day week amid overhaul
Around 20,000 Volkswagen workers in Germany have so far agreed to take voluntary redundancy as part of a major overhaul aimed at cutting costs, the struggling auto titan said Tuesday. Europe's biggest carmaker, hit by fierce competition in its key market of China and a stuttering shift to electric vehicles, struck a deal with unions last year for massive job cuts in its home market. Some 20,000 workers had so far accepted redundancy offers, out of a total of 35,000 due to be shed by 2030 under the agreement, the 10-brand group said. The total figure represents a quarter of the Volkswagen brand's workforce. The jobs are being cut at the carmaker's core Volkswagen brand, and amount to about 30 percent of its workforce in Germany. Volkswagen plans to slash capacity by over 700,000 units, while its other brands, including Audi and Porsche, have also been trimming costs by cutting thousands of jobs. The redundancies and retirements, as opposed to layoffs, to meet Volkswagen's headcount reduction target are due to strong German labor laws that make it harder to dismiss employees en masse. 'We are on track,' VW board board member Gunnar Kilian said at a meeting with staff at the company's historic headquarters in Wolfsburg, western Germany. He said the 'socially responsible' job cuts as well as reductions in factory costs added up to 'measurable progress.' Volkswagen dropped a bombshell last year when it said it was mulling closing factories in Germany for the first time in its history. But after months of talks with unions and a series of walkouts, it decided against shuttering any plants, instead striking the agreement to cut jobs through voluntary redundancies. The Volkswagen brand has grappled with overinvestment and low returns on its electric vehicles, prompting a slew of changes. While the German auto giant navigates an overhaul within the company, it might also have staff working fewer days from 2027 onwards. As part of restructuring efforts, Wolfsburg, Volkswagen's biggest plant, could turn to a four-day workweek as it focuses only on EV production, works council head Daniela Cavallo said on Tuesday, according to Reuters. 'We have to make provisions now so that we can draw on them later … From 2027 onwards, a temporary four-day week is not an unreasonable scenario,' Cavallo told workers. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts gifts pink toy luxury car to Shohei Ohtani's baby daughter
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and his wife have gifted Shohei Ohtani's baby daughter with a pink toy Porsche. Ohtani posted a video of him, Roberts and the toy car on his Instagram account. Advertisement 'We had a little running practical-joke situation going on,' Roberts said Wednesday, 'but this was a gift for the baby.' Last May, Roberts joked that Ohtani should give him a Porsche when the slugger broke the Dodgers record for most home runs by a Japanese player. Ohtani obliged, gifting a purple toy model Porsche for Roberts' office. In breaking the record, Ohtani surpassed the mark set by Roberts, who was born in Japan, during his playing days. Ohtani went slightly bigger in March, when he left another toy Porsche in Roberts' parking space at Camelback Ranch in Arizona. Ohtani gifted Ashley Kelly, wife of Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly, a Porsche for her husband giving up his No. 17 when Ohtani signed with the Dodgers in December 2023. Advertisement Ohtani's first child was born on April 19. He and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, have not revealed the baby's name or any other information in keeping with Ohtani's penchant for privacy. Ohtani's reaction to the gift from Roberts and his wife Tricia? 'He was very grateful,' Roberts said. ___ AP MLB: Beth Harris, The Associated Press
