Northway Biotech Launches Full-Service Viral Clearance Studies, Delivering Results Faster Than Industry Standards
VILNIUS, LT / ACCESS Newswire / May 5, 2025 / Northway Biotech, a biopharmaceutical contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO), today announced the expansion of its protein-based and gene therapy service offerings with the addition of Viral Clearance Studies (VCS) capabilities. This strategic growth follows the opening of Northway Biotech's new Gene Therapy Center with dedicated cGMP facilities for virus-related projects.
With six newly established, identical BSL-2 laboratories now operational, Northway Biotech can conduct VCS programs for up to six clients simultaneously, significantly alleviating current market bottlenecks. Additionally, the company has expanded its capabilities to perform GMP-compliant manufacturing and testing under BSL-3 conditions, further strengthening its service offering across gene therapy and broader biologics development.
Viral Clearance Studies are now offered both as part of Northway Biotech's integrated CDMO programs and as a standalone service. This flexibility allows external clients to access VCS expertise independently, without requiring a manufacturing agreement.
Accelerated Delivery Timelines - Over One Month Faster Than Industry
Leveraging expanded infrastructure and integrated analytical capabilities, Northway Biotech is positioned to deliver Viral Clearance Studies substantially faster than the current industry standard. Comprehensive studies, assessing viral removal and inactivation, can now be completed with final regulatory-compliant reporting in under 10 weeks from initiation of project design when two model viruses are employed, and within 12 weeks when four model viruses are used.
"Our expansion into Viral Clearance Studies is a natural extension of our CDMO services, enabling us to manage these critical studies in-house and significantly reduce project timelines for our clients," said Prof. Vladas Algirdas Bumelis, CEO of Northway Biotech. "By investing in state-of-the-art BSL-2 and BSL-3 facilities, expanding technical capabilities, and further strengthening our scientific teams, we are uniquely positioned to deliver high-quality VCS data faster - a key advantage for clients advancing through clinical development and regulatory approval."

Tivic Reports Second Quarter 2025 Financial Results
FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Tivic Health® Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: TIVC), a diversified immunotherapeutics company, today announced financial results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2025. 'We have established a strong foundation for Tivic's strategic transformation with our expansion into biopharmaceuticals, making us unique in treating disease by addressing both the body's biochemical and bioelectronic systems,' stated Tivic CEO Jennifer Ernst. 'To maximize our focus on the compelling, late-stage clinical pipeline, we have increasingly shifted resources away from consumer healthtech and are now planning to exit the ClearUP business by the end of this year,' continued Ernst. 'I look forward to advancing the commercialization of these life-saving therapies, supporting our strategy to increase shareholder value through this transformation.' Corporate Highlights from the Second Quarter and Subsequent Weeks, included: Securing positive interest in potential military and defense applications for drug candidate Entolimod™ to treat ARS during briefings with the White House and U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) officials. Extending the worldwide license of Entolimod™ to include the treatment of neutropenia, a condition that reduces the body's ability to combat infections and has a wide range of causes - from genetics to cancer treatments and age. Entering into a GMP manufacturing validation agreement with Scorpius Biomanufacturing, Inc. as part of preparing for the FDA biologics license application process. Completing all study visits in the Optimization Study for its patent-pending, non-invasive cervical vagus nerve stimulation (ncVNS) device. Net loss of $3.4 million for the first half of 2025, compared to $2.7 million for the first half of 2024. Tivic's biologics compounds activate an innate immune pathway to prevent cell death in the bone marrow and epithelial tissues across systems impacted by radiation and age. The company's lead drug candidate, Entolimod™ for acute radiation syndrome, is a novel TLR5 agonist that has been granted Fast Track designation and is in late stage development. Tivic's bioelectronic program is developing a novel, non-invasive medical device designed to target the neural pathways implicated in many prevalent and debilitating diseases. Early trials show promising signals that Tivic's approach may regulate specific biologic responses, and the company believes its early-stage vagus nerve stimulation device has the potential to deliver clinical outcomes similar to or better than those of surgically implanted devices. China Tempers Nvidia H20 Use -- No Ban, But Heavy Scrutiny
Chinese regulators are signaling caution but not an outright ban on Nvidia's (NASDAQ:NVDA) H20 AI chip. Reuters reports the Cyberspace Administration of China and other agencies recently called in Tencent (TCEHY), ByteDance, Baidu (NASDAQ:BIDU), and others, pressing them to justify why they need the U.S.-made chips instead of local options, while voicing worries that data shared for U.S. export clearance could expose sensitive client information. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 5 Warning Signs with NVDA. The companies haven't been ordered to stop buying, pushing back on earlier reports of a ban. Still, Bloomberg says officials advised against using H20 chips in government-linked projects, and The Information claimed some firms were told to pause purchases though Reuters couldn't confirm that. The distinction is key for Nvidia, which only regained the right to sell the H20 in China last month after U.S. curbs eased. The chip was custom-built for China after 2023 restrictions and delivered $17 billion in China sales last fiscal year, 13% of Nvidia's total. Yet the pressure comes as Huawei and others ramp up domestic AI chip efforts, and Beijing pushes its tech giants to cut reliance on U.S. suppliers. This article first appeared on GuruFocus.
