Man 'cooked his chihuahua to death in oven because it wouldn't stop barking'

Metro27-05-2025

A man allegedly stuffed his Chihuahua puppy in an oven and cooked it to death because it was barking too much.
James Williamson, 44, got into an argument with a family member and threatened to put the small dog in a hot oven if it did not quiet down, according to Sergeant Darrell McMann of the Atmore Police Department.
Williamson is accused of putting the pup in the oven, turning it on and placing a chair in front of the appliance to secure the door.
Neighbors reported hearing yelps coming from inside the home on Cruitt Drive in Atmore, Alabama, on May 19 and called cops.
McMann said he arrived to find a dead Chihuahua on the driveway with serious burn marks.
'I have a Chihuahua myself,' McMann told WALA.
'When I got there, I was just at a loss for words, you know, I really was just stood there and looked at the dog for a little bit and had to get myself together.'
Williamson has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty. It is a Class C felony, which is the second lowest level of felony in the state. His bond has been set at $15,000, and he will not be allowed to own animals if he is convicted.
McMann said tougher laws should be in place for crimes as horrific as this. More Trending
'I think in cases like this, they should be strengthened, because I don't think being a Class C felony fits what he did,' McMann said.
'That pretty much describes what he did: horrible and inhumane.'
Atmore is about 50 miles northeast of the port city of Mobile on the Gulf Coast.
The dog was killed more than seven years after a South Korean farmer allegedly became annoyed that his neighbor's dog was constantly barking, and killed and cooked the pup and invited its owner over for dinner to eat it.

Family of missing teen left with 'unanswered questions' after body found

The family of a Scottish teen who vanished last month before he was found dead have vowed to 'fight for the truth'. Cole Cooper, 19, was reported missing on May 9, sparking a nationwide manhunt which saw police speak to more than 400 people. The teen was seen on CCTV at 6am on May 4 returning home to his dad's house in Longcroft from a house party, but he failed to get inside. An old school friend spotted him in the same village three days later. But a body believed to be of Cole was recovered in a wooded area near Kilsyth Road in Falkirk on Friday. In a missing person Facebook group set up by his family, his aunt Aimee Tennie said on Sunday that the family are in a 'living nightmare'. She said: 'Cole. Our boy. We fought for you for almost five weeks. Why? How? So many questions… and still, no answers. 'With shattered hearts, we share the devastating news that our beloved Cole, who was missing, has been found – but not in the way we hoped or prayed for. 'Our worst fears have become reality, and we are now living a nightmare we can't wake up from. 'We never gave up, and we will never give up – not until we have the answers. The fight for truth, for justice, and for Cole is not over.' She said that support from the group's 29,600 members during the 'horrendous' experience 'meant more than words can ever say'. More Trending Tennie added:'Your support through this horrendous experience has. Every message, every shared post, every act of kindness – your generosity and compassion carried us through our darkest moments. 'We will never forget it.' Cops reviewed over 2,000 hours of CCTV footage during their search for the teen. Police said: 'Formal identification has yet to take place, however, the family of missing man Cole Cooper, 19, has been informed.' Plastic surgeon who stabbed rival doctor and tried to burn down his home jailed

A plastic surgeon who broke into a fellow doctor's home and stabbed him in the middle of the night has been jailed for life. Jonathan Peter Brooks, 61, poured petrol over the floor before attacking his colleague Graeme Perks in January 2021. The burns specialist was desperate to get Perks 'out of the way' because the fellow plastic surgeon had been a witness in disciplinary hearings against him. Brooks was sentenced at Loughborough Courthouse today to life in prison, with a minimum term of 22 years, after being found guilty of attempted murder in April. Judge Justice Pepperall said the plastic surgeon, who was absent during the trial on hunger strike, had been on a 'murderous expedition' to commit 'appalling crimes'. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Brooks's victim was woken up by a loud bang during the break in at his £1m home in Halam, Nottinghamshire and ran downstairs naked to confront the intruder. Perks told police in a video interview he thought he was talking to his son when he was confronted by Brooks, who had concealed his identity. Perks, who was recently retired at the time, added: 'Nothing was said, and the next thing I remember was feeling a blow to my body. 'I put my hands to the area where I felt it and it was warm and sticky, and I thought I felt something poking out from my abdomen and I decided that I must have been stabbed and that I needed to get back to the house.' A surgeon, who treated the retired doctor, said Perks had a 95% chance of dying when he arrived at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham for treatment. Brooks, 61, had cycled to Perks' home armed with a crowbar, cans of petrol, matches and a knife – all while dressed in camouflage. Prosecutor Tracy Ayling KC said: 'His intention was, say the Crown, to break into Mr Perks's house, set fire to it and if necessary, stab Mr Perks. 'In short, he intended to kill Mr Perks by either or both those means.' The plastic surgeon was found guilty on April 7 of two counts of attempted murder, attempted arson with intent to endanger life and possession of a knife. More Trending He had denied all those charges. It was revealed after the jury's verdict that Brooks went on hunger strike and failed to attend proceedings at Leicester Crown Court. He was not present during sentencing today because he felt too unwell to make the journey to court. Judge Justice Pepperall previously said Brooks had 'used hunger strikes or the threat of some other self-harm to achieve some advantage' on 'no fewer than eight occasions' since 2021.
