Man 'cooked his chihuahua to death in oven because it wouldn't stop barking'
James Williamson, 44, got into an argument with a family member and threatened to put the small dog in a hot oven if it did not quiet down, according to Sergeant Darrell McMann of the Atmore Police Department.
Williamson is accused of putting the pup in the oven, turning it on and placing a chair in front of the appliance to secure the door.
Neighbors reported hearing yelps coming from inside the home on Cruitt Drive in Atmore, Alabama, on May 19 and called cops.
McMann said he arrived to find a dead Chihuahua on the driveway with serious burn marks.
'I have a Chihuahua myself,' McMann told WALA.
'When I got there, I was just at a loss for words, you know, I really was just stood there and looked at the dog for a little bit and had to get myself together.'
Williamson has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty. It is a Class C felony, which is the second lowest level of felony in the state. His bond has been set at $15,000, and he will not be allowed to own animals if he is convicted.
McMann said tougher laws should be in place for crimes as horrific as this. More Trending
'I think in cases like this, they should be strengthened, because I don't think being a Class C felony fits what he did,' McMann said.
'That pretty much describes what he did: horrible and inhumane.'
Atmore is about 50 miles northeast of the port city of Mobile on the Gulf Coast.
The dog was killed more than seven years after a South Korean farmer allegedly became annoyed that his neighbor's dog was constantly barking, and killed and cooked the pup and invited its owner over for dinner to eat it.

Two men face jail after stolen BMW crashed into care home in Sunderland
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Two men who admitted stealing a car which then crashed into a care home will not face criminal proceedings over the deaths of two residents. Sam Asgari-Tabar and Reece Parish were taking a BMW for a test drive when they stole it, with a woman still inside the car. Police were alerted to the car, which was stolen in the Fenham area of Newcastle, and it was spotted in the Sunderland area 15 minutes later. But during a police chase Asgari-Tabar crashed the car into Highcliffe Care Home in Witherwack, near Sunderland, injuring eight residents who were treated in hospital for their injuries and seriously damaging the building. Two days later, the force said a woman in her 90s and a woman in her 80s, neither of whom were in the eight taken to hospital, had died. Both men have now pleaded guilty to stealing the BMW, and Asgari-Tabar admitted robbery and causing serious injury by dangerous driving to an elderly care home resident who suffered spinal fractures in the crash. The Crown Prosecution Service said it will not proceed with kidnap charges against both defendants, related to the owner of the BMW. More Trending And today Northumbria Police confirmed Parish and Asgari-Tabar will not face charges over the deaths of the two women. The force said: 'Following the incident, two care home residents died a short time later but no criminal proceedings are to be brought in relation to the deaths.' Judge Robert Spragg said the men will be sentenced on October 17 and he remanded the pair in custody. He told them: 'You have both very sensibly pleaded guilty to these matters and you will be given credit for that from the sentencing judge in due course.' Future King of Norway's stepson charged with four counts of rape
The eldest son of Norway's crown princess has been charged with multiple offences including rape and abuse against a former partner. Marius Borg Hoiby, 28, is son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, the heir to the throne in the Norwegian royal family. Among the 32 charges he faces are four counts of rape, abuse in a close relationship against one former partner, acts of violence against another, making death threats, harassment of police, and traffic violations. He is also accused of illegally filming a number of women, including their genitals, without their knowledge or consent. The four rapes are alleged to have happened between 2018 and November 2024, and allegedly all took place after consensual sex while the women were sleeping. Hoiby is accused of filming all of the women during the alleged rapes. Norwegian prosecutors say the charges come after a lengthy investigation, and he could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted. He had been held by police for a week in November of last year as part of their investigation. Hoiby has no royal title or official duties, and is outside the line of royal succession. He is currently free ahead of his trial, which is set to begin in January and could last for six weeks. Hoiby's defence team has said he takes the accusations seriously but does not acknowledge any wrongdoing in most of the cases. More Trending His lawyer, Petar Sekulic, said he plans to plead guilty to some of the lesser charges in court once the trial starts, but 'does not agree with the claims regarding rape and domestic violence'. Last year Hoiby admitted causing bodily harm to a woman he had been in a relationship with, saying he was under the influence of cocaine and alcohol at the time. He said in a statement last August that he regretted his actions. The Norwegian royal court said: 'It is for the courts to consider this matter and reach a decision. We have no further comment.' Two cruise passengers die in separate drownings on same day at Bahamas resort
Two people have died from apparent drownings in unrelated incidents at a private Bahamas resort for passengers of a cruise company. The US citizens had been travelling with their families on separate cruises on Carnival Cruise Line's ships Mardi Gras and Elation respectively. The tragedies occurred after they were dropped off at Celebration Key, a private island where Carnival opened a resort less than a month ago. The man, who was 79, was reportedly snorkelling by a beach on the island on Friday when he appeared to get into difficulty. A lifeguard brought him to shore and administered CPR after he became unresponsive, but the man was pronounced dead shortly after. On the same day, the woman, said to be 74, was found unresponsive in a swimming pool. Postmortem examinations will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death in each case. More Trending Both passengers had travelled from ports in Florida, where Carnival is based. The Royal Bahamas Police Force is carrying out investigations into both deaths. 'Our thoughts and prayers are with the guests and their families and our Care Team is providing assistance', the company said in a statement to local media. 'We are saddened by the loss of our guests. We have trained lifeguards and medical professionals who respond promptly.' Got a story?
