'Stop! Stop! Stop!': Trump Adviser Clashes With Reporter Who Called Out Trade U-Turns

Yahoo12-03-2025
Peter Navarro, President Donald Trump's top trade adviser, slammed Sky News' Mark Stone on Tuesday after the reporter pressed him on the president seemingly 'changing his mind by the hour' with his plans to impose tariffs on Canada.
'You don't understand what a negotiation looks like,' Navarro said to Stone outside the White House. 'The president is negotiating strategically, so stop with the rhetoric, OK? Just stop that crap.'
'But he does seem to be changing his mind all the time,' Stone replied.
'Stop that crap. That's a bunch of a cra —,' replied Navarro, who then asked who Stone worked for.
On Tuesday, the president unveiled plans to double 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imported from Canada.
The Trump administration then hit reverse on the plans hours later as Ontario Premier Doug Ford and U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick — in a joint statement — said that the move to double America's tariffs was off, along with Canada's plans for a 25% surcharge on imported electricity to some U.S. states.
Stone, in his clash with Navarro, continued to question the trade adviser over the administration's policy turnarounds.
'But why is that? Why is that? It's a fact that he's changing his mind every single day,' said Stone, who once checked Trump's former lawyer Rudy Giuliani at the infamous Four Seasons Total Landscaping press conference in 2020.
'It's a negotiation, my friend,' Navarro replied.
'Right? So he doesn't mean it? It's all part of a negotiation, and it's causing havoc to the stock markets,' Stone said.
'It's not causing havoc,' said Navarro as he shook his head.
'It is, it is. They are tumbling,' replied Stone as the Trump adviser tried to dodge him.
The markets swung wildly and erratically on Tuesday, as they've done for much of the last few weeks. Even Trump has acknowledged that his polices could create a period of 'disturbance' for the economy.
Outside the White House on Tuesday, Stone continued to press Navarro, who wasn't a fan of the questioning.
'Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop,' Navarro said.
'I'm allowed to ask questions, aren't I? Do you not believe that it's causing havoc for the stock market?' asked Stone before Navarro scolded him.

Schumer taps controversial JFK scion Jack Schlossberg for America 250 Commission

US Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer tapped Kennedy heir Jack Schlossberg – known for his attention-seeking social media tirades — to sit on the committee prepping America's 250th birthday bash Tuesday. Schlossberg will get one of the seats slotted for private citizens on the America 250 Commission as Schumer, a Brooklyn Democrat, claimed 'there's no better person' to go toe-to-toe with President Trump and his supporters on the panel. 'Why am I putting Jack there? We know that Donald Trump will try to aggrandize the whole thing and make it part of him and his ego,' the New York senator claimed in a social media video next to the 32-year-old political scion. 'There's no better person to push back on that than you, Jack.' Advertisement 3 Sen. Chuck Schumer and Jack Schlossberg appeared in a video Tuesday. The commission is supposed to be non-partisan and comprised of members appointed by House and Senate leadership from both political parties. Advertisement Trump administration cabinet leaders including US Attorney General Pam Bondi, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are all part of the commission. Four US Reps and four US senators are also among the group. Schlossberg, the son of former diplomat Caroline Kennedy, shook Schumer's hands and thanked him for the appointment. 'I wanna make sure we celebrate our country for all of its colors, there's no more important task than celebrating our history for the same of our future,' he said. Cornyn asks DOJ to probe groups tied to O'Rourke, others in Texas fight

Sen. John Cornyn (D-Texas) is asking the Justice Department (DOJ) to investigate groups —including former Rep. Beto O'Rourke's (D) Powered by People — that have allegedly helped fund Texas Democrats who fled the state to stall a GOP mid-decade redistricting plan. 'I write to encourage the Department of Justice to open an investigation into potential violations of federal law committed by the Political Action Committees and special interest groups providing funding and assistance to members of the Texas House of Representatives who absconded from the state and violated their duties to the citizens of Texas,' Cornyn wrote in a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi. 'I write today to encourage an investigation of the entities funding this charade. News reports make clear that PACs tied to Beto O'Rourke and megadonors such as George Soros are supporting the legislators, along with other campaign entities,' he continued. 'These outside groups appear to be acting in violation of federal public corruption and election laws.' More than 50 Texas state legislators left the Lone Star State earlier this month to break quorum, depriving the state House of the numbers it needs to move forward with a redistricting plan backed by President Trump. The proposal, which passed through the state Senate on Tuesday, would net Republicans five additional House seats and has triggered redistricting talks in other states on both sides of the aisle ahead of the 2026 midterms. Cornyn in his letter called out O'Rourke, alleging that his political group funded 'luxurious private jets' for the quorum-breaking lawmakers, along with food, lodging and logistical support from other groups. The latest move from the senator follows his recent call for the FBI to help track down quorum-breakers, comes as he seeks to fend off a conservative primary challenge from Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) in next year's election. Recent polling has shown Cornyn trailing Paxton, in some cases by double digits, though his team is projecting optimism that they'll be able to fend off the challenge. Paxton has also swung at O'Rourke and his group, which he's claimed engaged in unlawful fundraising activity to help the Democratic state lawmakers. He was granted a temporary restraining order last week, and is now seeking O'Rourke's arrest as he alleges that the order was violated. Meanwhile, Texas Democrats are trying to wait out the ongoing 30-day special session as their absence puts a pause on advancing the new Congressional map, but Gov. Greg Abbott (R) has said he planned to call another immediately afterward. The venture comes with hefty expenses. In addition to the costs of living away from their homes in Texas, the participating Democrats each face $500-a-day fines, along with the threat of arrest and removal from their seats. California's Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has pledged to redraw the Golden State's congressional maps in a move that could counter Texas's gains with five additional Democratic House seats, depending on whether Republicans move forward with redistricting.

Zelensky warns Trump ‘Putin is bluffing' ahead of Alaska summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday sent a warning to President Trump that Russian President Vladimir Putin is 'bluffing' about being open to peace, ahead of a high-stakes summit between the U.S. and Russian leaders in Alaska set for Friday. Zelensky made his remarks alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in remarks following a video conference call with Trump and other European leaders. They said the call was aimed at setting 'the course for this meeting in the right way.' Trump has floated 'land swaps' between Russia and Ukraine as a path to peace, a possibility that Zelensky has resisted, drawing the U.S. president's ire. 'I stress that any questions concerning our country's territorial integrity cannot be discussed without regard for our people, for the will of our people and the Ukrainian constitution,' Zelensky said Wednesday. Merz said Ukraine is willing to discuss territorial questions, but only if a ceasefire is implemented on the current frontline, throwing cold water on reported Russian demands for Ukrainian withdrawals as a condition to halt the fighting. The two leaders spoke to reporters in Berlin. A translation of their remarks was provided by Sky News. Zelensky said he told Trump to expect Putin to downplay the impact of sanctions on the Russian economy and its military as a way to deter additional penalties. Trump has held off imposing additional sanctions on Russia and blew past a deadline last week to impose sanctions, instead announcing the face-to-face with Putin. 'In reality, the sanctions are very effective, and they're hurting the Russian military economy,' Zelensky said. Merz said that Zelensky and European leaders made 'clear' to Trump that a ceasefire along the current frontlines 'needs to be the starting point' for broader peace talks. Merz said there will be no discussion of legal recognition of Russian-occupied territory, rejecting another major pillar of Moscow's demands. Russia occupies an estimated 20 percent of Ukrainian territory but lays claim to four areas it only partially controls. Putin is reportedly calling for Ukraine to retreat from territory in the Donbas region that is not occupied by Russia. Zelensky said the leaders 'briefly talked about' security guarantees for Ukraine and emphasized that Russia should not be given a veto to block Ukraine from joining NATO, another red line for Moscow. Merz added that Trump 'largely' shares these positions. 'So if in Alaska there's no movement on the Russian side, then the US and the Europeans need to increase the pressure. President Trump knows this position. He shares them largely so I can say we've had a very good, constructive talk,' he said.
