Orr's annual NFL predictions has Packers finishing 9-8, missing playoffs in 2025

USA Today2 days ago
A pair of predictions for the 2025 NFL season -- one from Nate Davis of USA Today, and another from Connor Orr of SI.com -- highlight the range of possible outcomes for the Green Bay Packers this year.
Last week, Davis predicted the Packers would go 12-5, win the NFC North and run through gauntlet of the NFC playoffs before losing to the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl. Obviously, a title is the goal, but the franchise's first Super Bowl appearance since the 2010 season is something bordering on a best-case scenario for 2025.
However, Orr wasn't nearly as optimistic. For his annual 272-game prediction at SI.com, Orr had the Packers finishing 9-8 and missing the playoffs completely.
From Orr: "This Packers team has a streaky potential to me. I think there could be weeks when this offense is white hot and weeks where it looks out of rhythm—a bit like the 2023 team that had longer NBA-like runs of brilliance and confusion. I did want to reflect it all coming together offensively toward the end of the season with two consecutive wins over very good defenses in Baltimore and Minnesota—an acknowledgement that when this offense is fully understood and coherent, it's going to be really good."
Orr had the Packers starting 2-2, losing three straight games coming out of the bye, winning four straight games after falling to 2-5 and then laboring through a 1-3 stretch before finishing with wins over the Ravens and Vikings. That's about as streaky as it gets for a 9-8 team.
But 9-8 wasn't good enough to make the NFC playoffs. Orr had the Lions winning the division at 10-7 and the Vikings getting in as a wildcard team at 10-7. The Rams and Commanders also got in as wildcard teams at 10-7.
Last year, Orr predicted the Packers would finish 12-5, with losses to the Eagles (in the opener), Lions (twice), Bears (in the finale) and Rams. He also got all four division winners right and correctly had the Packers as a wildcard team in the NFC.
The Packers will hope Orr's predictive powers come up short in 2025.

Betting odds for Sixers' VJ Edgecombe to win 2026 Rookie of the Year

The 2025-26 NBA season continues to inch closer as the schedule has been released and everybody's attention turns to opening night in October. With that being said, now is the time to look at some odds for certain awards concerning the Philadelphia 76ers. While MVP is normally the one to watch for the Sixers due to the presence of Joel Embiid, there is some injury concern there, so this one is focused on Rookie of the Year due to the presence of VJ Edgecombe. FanDuel released their Rookie of the Year odds with Edgecombe ranking fourth in those odds with +1300. He is behind only San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper, Washington Wizards guard Tre Johnson, and Dallas Mavericks forward Cooper Flagg. Edgecombe's chances to win Rookie of the Year will depend on how much the ball will be in his hands. The Sixers have a lot of guards they will rely on more than him--notably Tyrese Maxey and Jared McCain--and numbers are a big part of the ROY voting. Edgecombe might not have the best chance to take home the award, but that will depend on what role he will have in the 2025-26 season.

Bill Belichick exits radio show as anticipated North Carolina debut nears

Bill Belichick has taken the air out of his radio career. The new coach at North Carolina will not participate in the Tar Heels' traditional coaches' radio show this season following the first airing of the season on Aug. 27, the school announced. He will be replaced thereafter by the program's general manager, Michael Lombardi, who will be joined by assistant coaches and players. The show has been renamed 'Carolina Football Live' after previously being known as 'Mack Brown Live,' Belichick's predecessor over the past six seasons. It still will be aired weekly from a restaurant near the Chapel Hill campus, according to the university's release. North Carolina coach Bill Belichick arrives for an NCAA college football press conference, March 5, 2025, in Chapel Hill, N.C. AP The 73-year-old Belichick is returning to the sidelines for the first time since parting ways with the Patriots following the 2023 season after winning six Super Bowl titles in 24 seasons as head coach in New England. Belichick, who is not obligated to do the show in his contract, has been visible across various media platforms during his year off since leaving the Patriots. He has made regular appearances on ESPN's 'The Manningcast,' as well as 'Inside the NFL' and 'The Pat McAfee Show.' He also did a media tour to promote his book, 'The Art of Winning: Lessons from a Life in Football.' North Carolina coach Bill Belichick speaks with a group of reporters during the Atlantic Coast Conference's NCAA college football media days, Thursday, July 24, 2025, in Charlotte, N.C. AP The Tar Heels, who finished with a 6-6 record last season, will open the season against TCU on Sept. 1.

Nuggets' starting lineup shakeup expected to pay off next season

Nuggets' starting lineup shakeup expected to pay off next season originally appeared on The Sporting News The Denver Nuggets have been one of the most interesting teams in the league this offseason, and it might pay off in a big way. Last season, the Nuggets saw their season end in a Game 7 of the second round for the second straight year. Following some massive changes toward the end of the regular season, the Nuggets did their best to make some noise in the playoffs. With a full offseason to prepare for next season, the Nuggets' new front office made some big moves. While the team improved its depth and even gave Nikola Jokic the best backup center of his career, the Nuggets' headline-stealing move was sending Michael Porter Jr. and a pick to the Brooklyn Nets for Cam Johnson While Porter was a generally reliable player, Johnson should bring a more team-oriented style of play to go with a similar outside shooting prowess. Add in Johnson's ability to play multiple positions as well, and he could end up being one of the best additions of the entire offseason. That same conclusion was made by Bleacher Report's Zach Buckley, who expects the Johnson deal to be viewed as one of the best of 2025 by this time next summer. Buckley explained that this move was simply a perfect way to add some help for Jokic and company without truly sacrificing anything major. Although Johnson might not be a step up from Porter in counting stats, what Johnson provides on both ends should easily make up for any decrease in numbers from the starting forward spot.
