Jon Bernthal Lands Role in Major Marvel Film Alongside Tom Holland

Jon Bernthal is bringing the Punisher to the big screen—and this time, he's stepping into the world of Tom Holland's Spider-Man. Bernthal has officially joined the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the upcoming installment in Sony and Marvel's Spider-Man franchise. Directed by Shang-Chi filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie begins filming in England this summer and is slated for release on July 31, 2026, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Plot details remain tightly guarded, but the return of Bernthal's Frank Castle hints at a darker, more street-level tone than recent Spider-Man entries. In the comics, Castle's brutal methods often put him at odds with other heroes, and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, that tension may come to life as he crosses paths with Peter Parker. Bernthal first debuted as the Punisher in Netflix's Daredevil before headlining two seasons of The Punisher. He returned in Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+, and Marvel has confirmed plans to expand his presence with both a second season and a stand-alone R-rated Punisher film, one that Bernthal is co-writing. The actor reportedly made it clear: if he was returning, the character's edge had to remain intact. How that uncompromising violence plays in the more family-friendly Spider-Man sandbox remains to be seen. Brand New Day also brings back Zendaya and Jacob Batalon as MJ and Ned, though their roles are still under wraps. Stranger Things star Sadie Sink joins the cast in a mystery role. The story picks up after No Way Home, where the world forgot Peter Parker's identity, giving Marvel a clean slate to rebuild. While speculation about villains runs wild, ranging from underworld bosses to symbiotes and even alternate Hulks, it's Bernthal's inclusion that changes the stakes. He and Holland share a behind-the-scenes connection, having supported each other during auditions while filming Pilgrimage in 2017. With Bernthal stepping into Spider-Man's orbit, Marvel fans can expect a collision of tone, style, and morality. Whether Castle is an ally, obstacle, or something in between, one thing is certain: Spider-Man's next chapter just got a lot more Bernthal Lands Role in Major Marvel Film Alongside Tom Holland first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 21, 2025

On Saturday, June 21, Princess Kate, 43, shared a photo on Instagram of Prince William surrounded by their puppies as she led tributes with a sweet message from her and their children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7. "Happy birthday! Love C, G, C, L, Orla and the puppies! 🐾" she captioned the snap. It was just last month that the couple's beloved dog, Orla, welcomed a set of puppies, The Sun reported. 'Everyone loves a new royal baby news and so new royal puppies run very close," an insider told the outlet at the time. The family was gifted Orla in 2020 after James Middleton's dog Luna gave birth to six puppies. King Charles also shared a birthday tribute to Prince William on behalf of the royal family on his Instagram Stories. "Happy birthday to the Prince of Wales!" he captioned a photo of William sitting in a field. The messages followed the adorable before-and-after pictures that the Prince and Princess of Wales' children posted for Father's Day on June 15. William was shown with his arms around the children as they stood for a relaxed portrait under what appeared to be a cherry tree. The second photo captured them playfully falling into one another as the kids piled on top of their dad. "Happy Father's Day, Papa (before and after!) We love you! G, C & L 💖," the post was captioned. Josh Shinner, a photographer who has also previously taken photos of the Princess of Wales, took the pictures on what appeared to be the same day as the portraits for Louis' 7th birthday. Can't get enough of PEOPLE's Royals coverage? to get the latest updates on Kate Middleton, Meghan Markle and more! The social media posts came at the end of an intensely busy time for the royals, full of public events. Last weekend on June 14, there was the annual birthday parade for the King, Trooping the Colour, and then came Garter Day on June 16, when Princess Kate watched as Prince William paraded down the hill from Windsor Castle for the service at St. George's Chapel before joining him in a carriage when the royals left. Several days of horse racing at Royal Ascot (its fifth and final day is today, June 21) followed. Unfortunately, Kate didn't join the family this year for the races, despite being expected to attend on Wednesday with William. She is still managing her return to public-facing engagements as she continues her recovery from cancer treatment, those close to her say. "She's being sensible, listening to what her body is telling her and easing back into public life," Queen Elizabeth's former spokeswoman Ailsa Anderson tells PEOPLE in this week's exclusive cover story. Prince William also teamed up with actress Cate Blanchett on June 19 to visit one of his Earthshot Prize finalists to highlight the work they are doing to create a more sustainable fashion industry with innovative ways to make color dyes that use much less water and no harmful chemicals. Why Kate Middleton and King Charles' ‘Simmering Tensions' Just Exploded in Public

Kate Middleton's decision to cancel an appearance in the Royal Ascot carriage procession, citing 'slightly vague' reasons of 'balance,' has highlighted simmering tensions with King Charles over their differing priorities, The Daily Beast can reveal. One friend of Prince William and Kate insisted the couple were right to prioritize Kate's health, and said that if she was feeling unwell it was absurd to expect her to be paraded in front of the public on a boiling hot summer day, with little shade or air conditioning. They added: 'Catherine and her children all enthusiastically attended Trooping the Colour on Saturday, and Catherine was also on duty in Windsor on Monday for the Order of the Garter ceremony.' However, another source said that the late queen, who adored horse racing and considered attending the Ascot races one of the few truly fun public engagements she was obliged to carry out, would have been affronted that someone who had accepted the 'great honor of a coveted place in the carriage procession' could fail to show up at the last minute. Another source pointed out that Kate and William are simply not very interested in horse racing, and there is a suspicion in some quarters that had Wednesday's event been something she really loved, such as Wimbledon, she might have turned up. Her office has not given a specific reason for her decision not to go to Ascot. It has not, for example, fallen back on the trusty excuse of a severe cold, instead briefing media that Kate was 'disappointed' not to go but wanted to find the right 'balance' in her return to full-time royal duties. Asked how Charles would have seen Kate's last-minute cancellation, a friend of the king said: 'Charles is a very thoughtful and considerate man. He is going through cancer himself so he will be entirely understanding. He knows all about good days and bad days, physically and mentally.' Asked whether the incident highlighted a difference between how William and Kate and Charles and Camilla approach their jobs, the source said, 'Charles has been very insistent that the show must go on, come hell or high water. Kate and William tackle their public duties differently, which is their privilege, for now. Charles has been very clear that he supports their decisions.' However, another source, a former royal staffer, was more skeptical about the circumstances of Kate's no-show Wednesday, telling the Daily Beast: 'There is a perception in some quarters that Kate just doesn't like racing and so didn't make the effort. That is probably not fair, but you have to wonder if she would have missed Wimbledon, which she adores. 'I am sure she was genuinely unable to come, yet the last-minute nature of the way it was announced makes the king look disrespected. Would she have dared miss Ascot at a moment's notice when the queen was alive? Her late Majesty would have been not best pleased to have the great honor of a coveted place in the carriage procession rejected an hour before kickoff on slightly vague grounds. 'Clearly, Kate wasn't feeling up to it, but there is no denying that the whole affair was badly handled. You can't blame their office as they are the last to know, William and Kate make their own decisions on their own time, which is another source of frustration to everyone else trying to steer the tanker. They pulled the plug at the last minute. 'It's interesting that briefing is now coming out of the palace saying that the racecourse made a bureaucratic error by publishing the carriage list with her in it, but that doesn't change the fact that her team didn't announce she wasn't coming until late in the day.' Kate's no-show clearly caught everyone by surprise, including close friends who had been invited to join them in the royal box, including Thomas van Straubenzee, a godfather to their daughter, Princess Charlotte, Eton friend James Meade, and amateur jockey and businessman Sam Waley-Cohen. William looked markedly somber on arrival but cheered up later in the day when he was photographed having a drink with his pals. Kensington Palace did not respond to a request for comment.
