Ahead of Wang Yi's visit, Jairam Ramesh slams govt over China policy and Galwan 'Clean Chit'
Ramesh pointed to Beijing's open backing of Pakistan during the military operation earlier this year, calling attention to the growing strategic and security threats along India's borders.
The Congress MP said that India is 'paying the price' for the Prime Minister Modi's 'clean chit' to China following the Galwan Valley clashes in June 2020, in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed, stating "Na koi hamari seema mein ghus aaya hai, na hi koi ghusa hua hai." It is worth mentioning that 20 Indian troops died in the Galwan clashes on June 19, 2020.
He said that despite asking for a return to the status quo of April 2020, the government agreed to a 'disengagement' with China in October 2024 under which Indian patrols require Chinese concurrence to reach their patrolling points in Depsang, Demchok, and Chumar.
In a post made on X the leader stated, 'India has agreed to 'buffer zones' in Galwan, Hot Spring, and Pangong Tso that lie within the Indian claim line. This is far from the status quo as it prevailed before the Chinese aggression. India is paying the price for Prime Minister Modi's (infamous) clean chit to China given publicly on June 19, 2020 when he had declared 'Na koi hamari seema mein ghus aaya hai, na hi koi ghusa hua hai.'
Jairam Ramesh blamed China for openly supporting Pakistan during Operation Sindoor earlier this year and underscored China's strategic and security danger manifest along India's borders and rivers.
'Only three months ago, China gave total military support to Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, providing it with weapon systems such as the J-10C fighter and PL-15 air-to-air missile and a variety of missiles and drones. China provided Pakistan live intelligence against India according to Deputy Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Rahul R Singh, who went so far as to state on July 4, 2025, that China was one of the 'adversaries' India was fighting during Operation Sindoor. China has also begun construction of the 60 GW Medog dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo river, which has very serious implications for India,' the post read.
Claiming in his X post Jairam Ramesh also wrote, 'Despite the clear desire by the Indian Army for a return to the status quo of April 2020, the government agreed to a 'disengagement' with China in October 2024 under which Indian patrols require Chinese concurrence to reach their patrolling points in Depsang, Demchok, and Chumar.'
The ministry of external affairs (MEA) confirmed that Wang Yi will pay a two-day visit to India beginning from today to hold the 24th round of Special Representatives' talks on the boundary question with national security advisor Ajit Doval.
At the invitation of National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will visit India on 18-19 August 2025.
During his visit, he will hold the 24th round of the Special Representatives' (SR) Talks on the India-China boundary question with India's SR, NSA Doval. EAM Dr. S. Jaishankar will hold a bilateral meeting with Wang Yi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to travel to China to take part in the annual Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit on August 31.

NSUI protests against NCERT's special module on partition
New Delhi: The Congress-affiliated National Students' Union of India (NSUI) protested at Delhi University's Faculty of Arts against what it termed as the RSS-BJP's hateful and distorted NCERT module. The Congress and other opposition leaders are accusing the ruling BJP of 'interfering' with the functioning of the institutions and 'distorting' the country's history after a special module, released by the NCERT to mark 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day', held Jinnah, the Congress, and then Viceroy Lord Mountbatten responsible for India's Partition. Hitting back, the BJP said that the Congress is in pain because the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has brought a 'bitter truth' of India's Partition out for the students to study. According to an NSUI statement, many students joined the protest, raising slogans to safeguard the true legacy of India's freedom struggle. Addressing the gathering, NSUI National President Varun Choudhary said, 'The history of India will not be written with lies and hatred. When the nation was fighting for freedom, these people were standing with the British.' 'The same traitors of that time are today blaming Gandhi, Nehru, and Sardar Patel with falsehoods. We will not allow the innocent children of this country to be victims of RSS and BJP's distorted history,' he said. NSUI announced that this movement will not be confined to Delhi University alone and vowed to continue the struggle in every state and university across the country until the 'hateful and misleading NCERT module' is withdrawn. The students' body asserted that restoring truth and dignity in the portrayal of India's freedom struggle is non-negotiable, and pledged to intensify its agitation in the coming days.

Haryana teacher's death: Mobile internet suspended in Bhiwani, Charkhi for 48 hours
Chandigarh: Amid widespread public outrage over the death of a 19-year-old teacher, the Haryana government on Tuesday ordered the suspension of mobile internet, and bulk SMS and dongle services, while allowing voice calls, in Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri districts for 48 hours. Manisha's body was found in a field in Bhiwani on August 13. She had been missing since August 11, after leaving school, purportedly to inquire about admission at a nursing college. The death caused massive outrage, with people blocking key roads in the district and the opposition parties, including the Congress, demanding a CBI probe. Although the order does not make a reference to the teacher's death, sources said it has been issued in the wake of developments pertaining to the case. Issued by Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Sumita Misra, the order said that internet suspension will be in force from 11 am on August 19 till 11 am on August 21. 'It has been brought to my notice by ADGP/CID, Haryana and Deputy Commissioner, Bhiwani & Charkhi Dadri vide their requests dated August 19 that there is an apprehension of causing tension, annoyance, agitation, damage to public & private property and disturbance of public peace & tranquillity in the district Bhiwani & Charkhi Dadri... This order is issued to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order,' it said. The order further stated that the internet could be misused to spread inflammatory material and false rumours through social media or messaging services to disrupt peace and damage public assets. 'In order to stop the spread of misinformation and rumours through various social media platforms, such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter on mobile phones and SMS for facilitation and mobilisation of mobs of agitators and demonstrators who can cause serious loss of life and damage to public and private properties by indulging in arson or vandalism and other types of violent activities,' it said. Meanwhile, the emergence of a 'suicide note' in the death case on Monday turned the investigation on its head. Bhiwani Superintendent of Police Sumit Kumar had said the note was found near Manisha's body in a bag, which also had her Aadhaar card and other documents. He also said that there was proof of Manisha buying insecticide. 'In the viscera sample, the presence of insecticide has been confirmed in the body. So, there is self-purchase, there is a suicide note, there is poison in the body,' he said. The playschool teacher's family members, however, have insisted that she was murdered. The opposition parties have also flayed the BJP-led state government, claiming that the alleged murder was proof of a breakdown of law and order under the saffron party.

Platforms misused for fraud, terror financing: Govt after introducing bill to ban real money gaming
IANS Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw introduced the 'Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025' in the Parliament on Wednesday, which seeks to ban real money gaming in the country. Following the introduction of the bill, the ministry of electronics and IT said in an official statement that the harms of addiction, financial losses, and even extreme consequences such as suicides associated with online money gaming can be prevented by prohibition of online real money gaming. The government said these platforms are often misused for "financial fraud, money laundering, terror financing, and messaging activities" that compromise national security". The framework of the proposed legislation looks to encourage the growth of e-sports and online social games as an industry, while promoting skill development, education, and social engagement. On the flipside, it seeks a blanket ban on all forms of online money gaming, including betting and gambling activities such as fantasy sports, poker, rummy, and online lotteries. Advertising and promotion of such money games will also be banned across all media. The bill aims to protect citizens, especially the youth from predatory real-money gaming applications. These apps lure users with misleading promises of monetary returns, leading to compulsive behaviour and devastating financial distress among families, the government are provisions in the bill to establish training academies, research centres, and technology platforms to advance the gaming ecosystem. The government said the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports will promote e-sports, while the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) will support social and educational gaming initiatives. The bill also moots an online gaming authority to oversee regulation and compliance in the sector. There are strict penalties listed for violations.
