Details of M&S plan for Toys R Us store revealed
The retailer announced plans to open a new food and clothing store within the former Toys R Us shop at the Copdock Interchange in November.
Its existing store in Ipswich town centre on Westgate Street will remain open and M&S has officially submitted its plans to Babergh District Council for consideration.
The plans reveal M&S will partly demolish the Toys R Us building, while the new store will help employ 124 people.
The new store will include a food hall, clothing area, cafe and car parking for 328 customers and 43 staff members.
The application added that the development would "complement, rather than compete with, the existing retail offer and improve customer choice and competition in Ipswich".
The site has been vacant since 2018 when Toys R Us went into administration.
M&S wants to remove an existing wall within the building as well as demolish a small area to the rear to create a larger service yard.
Matthew Hicks, the Conservative leader of Suffolk County Council, previously welcomed the news of the new store.
"We fully support this deal with M&S because it retains their long-standing presence in the town centre whilst also breathing new life into a very visible entrance to Ipswich that has lain vacant for so long," he said.
The council will consider the application before making a decision in the future.
Will Smith, property director at M&S, said he was "excited" the plans had moved one step forward.
"We have the opportunity to transform a vacant site into one of the most modern shopping destinations in the UK and offer residents the very best of M&S Food, Fashion and Beauty," he said.
"The new store would enable us to grow our footprint in Ipswich, building on our existing presence, create new jobs for the community and bring new investment to the area."

Vietnam Block B gas project advances with FSO contract
PTSC South East Asia (PTSC SEA), a joint venture (JV) between PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC) and Yinson Production, has signed a lease and operate contract for a new floating storage and offloading (FSO) unit, set to bolster the Vietnam Block B gas project offshore. The contract, awarded by the Phu Quoc Petroleum Operating Company (PQPOC), is seen as a critical step for Vietnam's energy sector, enhancing the country's infrastructure. PQPOC, established by Vietnam National Industry – Energy Group (Petrovietnam), is responsible for the operation of the Vietnam Block B gas project, which includes Blocks B&48/95 and 52/97 in the south-west offshore region of Vietnam. The project, with an annual supply of 5.07 billion standard cubic metres of gas, aims to meet the growing energy needs of the south-west part of the country and provide economic benefits to the government, Petrovietnam and investors. Integral to the project's infrastructure, the new FSO will have a storage capacity of up to 350,000 barrels of condensate and is designed to be stationed for 25 years without the need for dry-docking. The turret-moored, double-hull FSO will be installed at a water depth of 80m. The firm period of the contract spans 14 years, with a potential extension of nine more years, bringing the total value to approximately $600m (VND15.72trn). The Vietnam Block B gas project's FSO is expected to achieve first condensate by the third quarter of 2027. Yinson CEO Flemming Guiducci Grønnegaard said: 'This contract reflects our strong partnership with PTSC and our long-standing commitment to Vietnam's offshore energy sector. 'The Block B FSO builds on our successful track record in the region and highlights our ability to deliver high-quality offshore assets that meet the specific needs of our clients. We are proud to support Vietnam's efforts to enhance energy security and are confident that this project will deliver long-term value for all stakeholders.' This new deal follows a previous award in November last year to PTSC AP, another JV between Yinson Production and PTSC, for the provision, charter, operation and maintenance of an FSO for Murphy Oil's Lac Da Vang project. Earlier this year, Yinson Production Offshore Holdings, a newly formed UK-based holding company of Yinson Production, signed a definitive agreement with a group of international investment firms. This agreement involves the issuance of $1bn ($749.89bn) in redeemable convertible preferred shares, along with 10% warrants, based on a post-money valuation of $3.7bn. First Bed Bath & Beyond Home store in Nashville to open this August
US home decor retail chain The Brand House Collective, formerly known as Kirkland's, will open its first Bed Bath & Beyond Home store in Nashville, Tennessee, on 8 August 2025. This marks the company's inaugural launch under its new identity following shareholder approval on 24 July 2025. This June, the company disclosed strategic adjustments to its operations and management. The overhaul includes a shift to become a multi-brand retail operator, streamlining its physical footprint, and enhancing core business processes to foster growth. The strategy involves consolidating properties and closing underperforming stores to reduce excess inventory, aiming for faster stock turnover and improved asset returns. Furthermore, the company plans to operate 290 stores, housing brands such as Kirkland's Home, Bed Bath & Beyond Home, and Overstock. The company said: "To celebrate our grand opening on 8 August, in honouring our brand's history, we're bringing back the beloved Bed Bath & Beyond coupon." The retailer has invited customers to redeem their legacy coupons or receive a new one at the store, with the first 25 purchasers receiving a free memory foam mattress. From today (29 July), The Brand House Collective will trade under the new ticker symbol 'TBHC', with no action required from shareholders concerning the change. Earlier in the month, the company revealed a series of executive appointments as part of its transformation into The Brand House Collective. Specifically, Andrea Courtois took on the role of senior vice-president and chief financial officer, succeeding Mike Madden.
